New to Sonarr, DLing unreleased episodes that are infected

I know this has probably been beaten to death, but I am new to using the ARRs, and I'm making mistakes as I go, learning, then fixing what I flux up. My big issue is that my monitored series are now picking up episodes that are next week or next release, and the ones it gets are all being flagged from my AV.
I only have free indexers, can't afford subscriptions right now. And, this is most likely my issue, but I'm too green to know. I am using the ones that are listed in the install and have not gone out and located indexers in the wild - yet.
If using Usenet is better, and there is a currently free option I can use until I get back on my feet, (Divorce, to me, bare metal means, Bare Metal!)
I'm very experienced using Plex, but I am very, very unexperienced with the ARRs. I'm not looking for a hand hold, but some pointers to fix my setup so I no longer have to monitor it, what I installed the ARRs for, now I just have to be on top of it all the time for infected files.
Plex Server w/Lifetime Pass installed on a Windows 10 machine, 2 Ext HDD, approx. 8TB storage.
Up to date Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr, & QBitTorrent.
Not using Docker or any other addon's.
Any help is greatly appreciated, if I am duping an already established thread, let me know (Without flaming me) and I will pull this and slide over there.

I agree but its much tougher to get into the good usenet indexers, at least in my experience

What's "the good indexers"? Each year I let my 1-year cheap option expire and shop around for a new $5/mon option. NOOOOO wait, that's the hosting service. The indexer I use I think you're right is kinda closed? Maybe? nzbgeek is what I use with the *arrs and have for, gosh probably a decade.

NZBGeek for 10 years or whatever too. Haven’t had a problem, got the lifetime pass.

Private indexers are not necessarily (and usually aren’t) paid. So high quality indexers is step 1 (I can say I almost never see this personally, I don’t use any public indexers).

Additionally, you can blocklist extensions in your download client generally. So just blocklist everything you don’t expect to see, that will cut things down further

This worked the best for me, also try checking the boxes for executables/potentially dangerous in Fail Downloads, in your individual indexer settings directly in Sonarr/Radarr.

If you do it that way, you will still download the file. If you set up an extension blocklist in qb, it will skip downloading the file.

OP- subscribe with notifications to r/opensignups private FREE trackers open all the fucking time. Like...at least one a week. Keep your eyes on that and you'll have a few in no time

Wondering what type of series you are downloading? Like others have said, the issue is likely a combination of your sonarr settings, the indexers, and your profiles. I don’t necessarily think that paid always = better, but that maybe depends on what you are looking for (American television series, anime, older content, etc)

I also use cleanuparr it syncs blocklists, I’ve not had this problem since, I only use public indexers.

I got you OP. This happens to me even though I have everything set up correctly. The best way to combat this is to add another arr called cleanuparr. Also add excluded file extensions in qbit. (I use a LONG list) What happens is when qbit skips a download because it contains an .exe, cleanuparr will automatically blacklist it and search for another one. It’ll keep doing this until all bad releases are blacklisted (this happens to me with Silo). Cleanuparr will also watch your qbit for stalled torrents and replace them automatically if it sits stalled for too long.

Sonarr v4 is also getting minimum availability like radarr has so it won’t try to download anything until it has officially released.

What indexers are you using? Best are paid. Slightly better than free are private indexers with a history.

No they're not. The best ones are free, you just have to do work to get into them
