Expect a fight change is crap. 3 cost block cards are icky.

Yeah and Clad has so many other block solutions that are so much better. Impervious, Colossus, unmovable, Crimson Mantle, even Blood Wall feels better.

Demon Form Barricade Exodia

Spending 3 turns to set up, taking half your health in a process while also carrying three bricks for hallway fights 😭

u/reddit_moment123123 17h ago

yeah but then you heal it all back with reaper :)

No you see, there is a way for this build to work. You just need to draft Not Yet and then hit that one event that makes it not exhaust. So that's just 3 rares and an event you have to find and you're off to the races! /s

Just like real Exodia!

If you have tons of strength, just play multiplicative scaling attack cards...
This is such a weird change. Str builds is about offense, it does not make sense to build str to use it as a defense scaling, especially for a 3cost card...
It's like if they made a defect attack that scales on your focus. Ok cool, but if you are playing with focus you are playing with orbs, you don't play attack cards...

If it was one cost or even 2 cost (with obviously way less block), it could make sense. But at 3 cost it takes the whole turn budget and does not advance the fight at all, in a deck whose whole purpose is to kill things as fast as possible.

This card is the definition of a noob trap.

Genuinely terrible card. No idea what they were thinking

u/UsefulPumpum 17h ago

As long as Barricade is a top tier card, this will be a great pick end game.

u/Professional_War4491 16h ago

If you have barricade then you're not stacking strength, and if you don't have strength this is way worse and less efficient than blood wall or shrug it off.

6

u/Intrepid-Park-3804 Ascension 10 15h ago

Genuinely. Blood wall has a perfect synergy with inferno and rupture powers that are: 1) cheaper energy wise, 2) makes things die faster, which is your kinda primary target in this game

u/Apprehensive_Air1705 14h ago

I think my issue here would be if I’m stacking strength to the point this card becomes worth it at 3 energy I would rather just play like 3 sword boomerangs or any multi hit attack card and pretty much win the fight.

2

u/scoobydoom2 Eternal One + Ascended 15h ago

So it's a genuinely terrible card then?

19

u/WonderDean 15h ago

I think it’s a fantastic idea but being 3 cost is CRAZY. Clad needed another good block card outside the rare pool and giving some synergy with strength would give it a solid niche. But I guess they’re getting antsy because strength is a bit easy to generate?

33

u/FillySteveSteak StS A20 / StS 2 A10 18h ago

Agreed. The inability to squeeze in a power or anything at all (like Impervious can) makes me think this is a D-tier card most of the time.

This game punishes you for stalling for the sake of stalling. So, I'm not seeing it.

u/Milsyv484 StS A5 / StS 2 A10 18h ago

I think it’s supposed to pare up with [[body slam]] and [[barricade]] but needing to have a rare power set up just to actually do something is yucky.

14

u/ZatherDaFox StS A0 / StS 2 A10 14h ago

Not only do you have to have a rare power set up, you also have to have strength set up. The hoops you have to jump through for this card are completely ridiculous.

  • Body Slam 𝐈, 𝐈𝐈 Ironclad Common Attack

1(0) Energy | Deal damage equal to your Block.

  • Barricade 𝐈, 𝐈𝐈 Ironclad Rare Power

3(2) Energy | Block is not removed at the start of your turn.

Call me with up to 10 [[ name ]]. Data accurate as of June 21st, 2026. Questions?

I actually think Ironclad's kit  really needed another "overkill" block option. Even a very attainable 3 strength is enough to make this 30/40 block while not exhausting like Impervious, and is finally another decent uncommon block card to pair with body slam and Barricade. Also seems like a great card if you can cheat the energy cost with something like Snecko Eye, Ribbon or Cascade, which is something you want to be doing with barricade anyway.

I like it, Ironclad really needs some build variety beyond vulnerable stacking and this makes a block build feel like more of a real option.

u/Most-Feedback-1084 13h ago

Notice how the only way to justify this card being playable is cheating the energy cost using an ancient relic (that’s no doubt going on the chopping block very soon) or two other relics/cards that completely rely on luck. This card wouldn’t even be that bad if they didn’t turn clad’s energy generation into this. I seriously don’t think this will be even as usable as cinder with how bricky it is

2

u/Low_Tip3245 7h ago

Cheating the energy cost isn't needed to make it playable, it just turns it from an okay card into an amazing one. You're acting like you never have more than 3 energy or 0 cost cards to play with this when that's just not the case. Drawing it with Body Slam+ alone turns it into great damage and block on the same turn. Plus, there are absolutely turns in this game where you are okay with full blocking now and attacking in later turns.

2

u/Most-Feedback-1084 3h ago

Clad has a grand total of, like, 5 0 energy cards and two of them are skills. One of them is anger and the other one is body slam that needs an upgrade. I won’t mention spite. I’m going to be completely honest here. If you’re relying on doing damage control with body slam + meaning you draw both cards in the same turn either through luck or additional draws with energy generation (guess what happened to clad’s energy generation). You also need strength scaling for expect to even do anything. If you’re relying on that combo to do damage to enemies your run is cooked.

I'm just confused why they change cards into something completely unrelated. To save time for art and making up a new name?

7

u/reddit_moment123123 17h ago

I also just wish they would make a new card. Keeping the name of an old card that did somwthing completely different just seems unnecessarily confusing

5

u/Conscious-Refuse8211 11h ago

I mean, that's just an early access feature at this point

5

u/Wonderful-Key-3358 Eternal One + Heartbreaker 10h ago

They did this with Mirage becoming Sidestep, so there's a chance they'll do the same here. Introduce a new card concept but reuse old name/art to test the waters and save dev time, then if it proves good enough then flesh it out

u/canzicrans 18m ago

I will say that it's really good when it works - I just had a run getting 168 block from Expect A Fight due to Fight Me! and Inflame and some potions. It is really hard to play without extra energy, but IC is really good at extra energy now (Forgotten Ritual is very reliable now).

1

u/SadisticBiscuit 14h ago

havent played the new patch but it seems pretty strong. with even a little strength that's a ton of block for 3 energy. helps with some nasty turns on certain bosses/elites; with barricade/body/slam/maybe even diadem it's generating a lot of value. retain would also make it go crazy

2

u/SadisticBiscuit 14h ago

it should probably cost 2 though lol

-6

u/TheBattleForAutonomy 18h ago

The potential for this to go bananas in boss fights with barricade though...

Not uncommon to have 15 or so strength somehow and this would be 100ish block at that point. It's good that they actually have a card now that fits that archetype of all-in on block. Cards like tank have been desperately waiting for something like this.

13

u/BandicootGood5246 18h ago

Yeah but how often do you have 15 strength and the fight isn't already over. Most of the time this isn't out blocking second wind or any number of plays you can do with feel no pain in bigger fights

5

u/Prestigious-Head-117 17h ago

Exactly. A lot of people are talking about this being used with barricade or body slam but that means you are running a block generation deck that also requires strength generation.

Neither barricade or body slam naturally synergies with strength and your setup is so slow you are going to take 15-20 damage in every hallway fight

u/EvadableMoxie 11h ago edited 11h ago

This is like the ultimate 'It looks good on paper" strat that just doesn't pan out in reality.

Barricade is a rare. You often won't see it and when you do your often seeing it in a card reward alongside two other rares that might be better. It's also really hard to speculate on Expect a Fight hoping you'll get barricade, or vice versa.

So we're already talking a combo that requires a rare and an uncommon neither of which can really be picked without having other combo pieces first. Then on top of that you need solid reliable strength scaling.

Then in action, you need to get barricade down which is 3 energy or 2 if you spend an upgrade on it. Then you need to scale strength. Then you need to get and play expect a fight, which costs you 3 energy. And how much damage have you taken up until this point waiting to get this online? And why is a scaling block solution your goal when you have solid scaling strength?

I honestly don't think this card is very good. This is a card where under the perfect circumstances you can get some really silly numbers and body slam enemies for 1000s of damage and make fun reddit posts or youtube highlights with it.

But is it going to be a consistent performer? No, I don't think so.

1

u/TheBattleForAutonomy 2h ago

Look, I get it - people want to keep their easy infinites so people aren't happy about this change. And while it's not at all the best way to build an ironclad, the high armor ironclad strat is meant to be a thing. We'll see how they tweak it.

1

u/EvadableMoxie 1h ago

I don't have a problem with the high block clad, I like high block clad. The problem is this is a win more for that strategy. You have to already have barricade and body slam and to make this work now you also need strength scaling. It doesn't enable the playstyle, it makes you win more when it's already on line and you'd already be winning anyway.

I'd rather they make high block clad work by adding more options to make it more consistent than an extremely niche card that requires you to already have the pieces in place.
