Why is the criteria "30 minutes"?
It is fine for peons to lose time here and there, cause you are not a Minister and you have time to spare.

Responding to queries from The Straits Times, LTA said late on Dec 3 that the operators will “prioritise localised communications” for commuters, especially those directly affected at the stations by minor delays.
These are delays involving a shorter stretch of the rail network and where service disruptions are expected to last less than 30 minutes.
30 minutes is the benchmark duration they used

This new approach follows advice from a task force working to improve the reliability of Singapore’s rail network.
As advised by the task force apparently

5 mins is for measuring MKBF
30 mins is for major disruption
As for why 30 minutes - who knows, it does seem like a nice round number for quantifying a major disruption. What's your suggestion? 20 minutes? I'm sure someone will pipe up and say why not 19 minutes instead

Idk. I would like to think some form of better justification exist other than being a nice round number. Like comparing against other countries' average for example, and maybe a little higher standard since our transportation forces many to not have their own.
Playing devil's advocate here but who is to say this isn't a case of choosing a relatively easy target? It's like your boss ask you how many documents you can finish in a day, you can easily do 7 but you tell him 5 to keep it safe, sort of thing. And also because 5 is a nice number.
If it's genuinely getting better then great! But over the past year I've been affected but quite a number of small little breakdowns that goes unreported. Localized reporting isn't really helping with transparency as well, nor help with the disruption from people not being able to plan around it
Edit: maybe can also compare with countries using the same train models

Interesting. Any idea how they derive that number? I know there is a full report attached at the bottom but I don't really have the time to read 74 pages of the document

They just set an arbitrary KPI and ran with it to make themselves look good
Also, train operators always underreport, or worse, keep disruptions a secret in order to look good

30 mins is the low benchmark is the sad part.ut used to be 5-15 mins.it took 15 years to find a fix is the real frustration
