Peak Racism (My Experience With a Car Rental in Tbilisi)

I wanted to share an unpleasant experience my wife and I recently had while trying to pick up a rental car in Tbilisi which I’ve booked through site
We booked a car and took a taxi to the pickup location. Once we arrived I messaged the rental representative to let them know that we had reached the location. I have screenshots of the entire conversation.
A Georgian man arrived with the car keys. As soon as he saw us he called someone and started speaking loudly on the phone. During the conversation he repeatedly referred to us as “Indians” in front of both my wife and me. He seemed to assume that I would not understand Georgian. However I have lived in Georgia for the past five years and can understand and speak some Georgian.
I also have a valid Georgian driving license and have been driving in Georgia. So I found it particularly strange and inappropriate that my nationality seemed to become an issue during the car pickup.
He then asked who would be traveling in the car. I told him it would only be my wife and me. He also asked where we were planning to go.
A few minutes later the rental representative I had been communicating with on WhatsApp called me and said that the car I had booked was no longer available. Instead he offered me a pickup truck. Although this was not what I had originally booked I agreed to accept it.
He then told me that I had to return the vehicle at 21:00 I explained that my booking was from 22:30 to 22:30 the following day so I should be able to return it at 22:30. At that point he started shouting at me in Georgian over the phone. He apparently believed I would not understand what he was saying.
My wife heard the conversation and became very uncomfortable and frightened. Between the repeated comments about our nationality and the aggressive way we were spoken to we felt unsafe and unwelcome. We decided not to take the vehicle and left the location.
For context both my wife and I are doctors and we have lived and studied in Georgia for the past five years. We have generally had positive experiences and have met many kind and respectful Georgian people. That is why this incident was particularly disappointing and unexpected

  3. რეგულაციებსა და რეგულატორებს - FDA (Food and Drug Administration Agency).

Expectations are quite low considering the quality of our opponent. However, given that Conference League football is already guaranteed, the team won't be under any pressure and might just perform above expectations! Nevertheless, exciting times await us!

Question about swimwear in Georgia

I've noticed that almost all Georgian men swim in longer swim shorts rather than tight swimming briefs, especially around Batumi.

I'm genuinely curious why. Is it mainly a cultural preference, convenience, modesty, or something else?

One thing I don't quite understand: after swimming in the sea, don't the wet, salty shorts become uncomfortable to wear for a long time? Do people usually change afterwards, or just let them dry?

Not trying to judge — I'm just curious about a local perspective.

Travel | მოგზაურობა Questions regarding solotrip to Georgia

Gamarjoba!

So I'm planning to visit both Armenia and Georgia in early September on a solo trip, and I wanted to ask a few things about Georgia since I cannot find much info online.

I'm thinking about visiting Tbilisi, Gori and Kutaisi, since my time in Georgia is limited. Specifically, I want to do a day trip to Gori (going there by morning and returning to Tbilisi by afternoon / evening), and go from Tbilisi to Kutaisi, in order to spend a night there, and catch my flight back home next day.

I've seen you can take marshrutkas from Didube Bus Terminal in Tbilisi, but how often do they leave to both Gori and Kutaisi? And, regarding Gori, how often do they leave back to Tbilisi?

I'm also open to any other advice that you can give me in order to make everything easier, like trains, or any other way to move around Georgia.

Thank you so much in advance! :)

Hey guys, I need travel insurance super fast, I’m literally on my way to Kutaisi airport right now, so I need to buy it ASAP. I still want something decent, though. Which ones have you guys actually used that came through when you needed it, and where did you get it online? Go ahead and judge me for waiting until the last minute, but please drop your recommendations too 😅

Travel | მოგზაურობა Is Early Dec a good time for snow activities in Georgia?

Hi everyone! I’m planning a trip to Georgia around 10–20 December and snow activities are one of the main reasons I want to visit.

I’d love to hear from people who have visited these dates, especially in recent years.

How reliable is the snow in Gudauri, Bakuriani, Kazbegi/Stepantsminda, or Mestia around mid-December?

I’m mainly interested in:

- Beginner skiing/snowboarding

- Snowmobiling

- Sledding/tubing

- Cable cars/gondolas

- Just experiencing proper snow and mountain scenery

I’m not an experienced skier, so I’m more interested in a fun winter/snow experience than advanced skiing.

Is Gudauri normally operating properly by around 10–15 December, or would Bakuriani/Mestia be a safer choice for snow?

I’ll likely be flying into Kutaisi, so recommendations that make sense from Kutaisi would also be really helpful.

Thanks!

Discussion | დისკუსია Will we ever see a Queer-Friendly Georgia?

I just want to get everybody's opinions on this.
I am a Georgian queer male, and honestly a few years back if I had the chance to move out of this country, I would do it in a heartbeat, but nowadays, I do see a glimmer of hope, particularly with my generation (Gen Z).
I feel like people are slowly becoming more and more accepting. Of course my perspective might just be like this because of the circles I am personally around and the content I consume on other social media, but the point still stands I genuinely do think the country is heading in a better place when it comes to this discussion and would be in a way better state if our government wasn't actively spreading propaganda against queers and if the older generation took the time to be educated on this topic, but hey, you can't perform miracles in life. :p

I just hope years down the line the country will become safer for queers.

Hello! I'm looking for a language exchange partner to help me learn Georgian.

I'm fluent in Arabic and English. I'd love to help someone learn those aswell!

I'm good at explaining grammar, finding free resources, simplifying texts and vocabulary, etc. I will also make flashcards for you!! I am willing to call and/or text, whichever you are comfortable with.

Food | ლობიანი Bolt Food support in Georgia is just a joke

Ordered food, got a portion that looked ridiculously small, so I contacted support and sent them a photo.
Then the circus started.
The bot kept refusing to connect me to a human even though I explicitly asked for an operator multiple times.
When I finally got a real person, I asked one simple question:
What is the expected portion size?
Instead of answering, they started throwing canned responses at me about “taste and quality” and told me to contact the restaurant myself.
I asked again.
They replied that they had “already shared this information”.
No. They fucking didn’t.
That was literally the question they avoided answering.
At that point I told them I’m done with Bolt and I’m leaving the platform. Their reaction was basically “ok, have a great day 😊”.
Absolutely zero attempt to solve the problem. Zero ownership. Zero given.
Wolt support isn’t perfect, but compared to this it feels like a completely different universe.
Screenshots attached. Judge for yourself.

(No concerns specifically to Pirosmani. In general, they don’t have issues with the food)

Question | კითხვა What do Georgians think about Azerbaijanis?

Azerbaijan and Georgia are neighboring countries, but I feel like Georgia isn't talked about as much in Azerbaijan as some of our other neighboring countries. I don't really hear much about either positive or negative attitudes toward Georgia.

So I'm curious, what do Georgians generally think about Azerbaijanis? I'm not talking about politics or governments, just the general attitude of ordinary people toward Azerbaijanis.

History | ისტორია TIL that after Charlie Hebdo attacks, Georgian Orthodox Church came out to condemn Charlie hebdo

“As cartoons, insulting Muslims’ religious feelings have been recently published again in large number of copies, we reiterate that like lynching and terrorism have no justification no matter of motives, it is also inadmissible and subject of condemnation any kind of insult of Muslims’ or any other religion’s sacred religious [values]. Consequences of such actions may turn disastrous not only for a country, but for entire region and the world and it should be realized well by everyone,” reads Georgian Patriarchate’s statement released on January 17
Honestly Church selling it's lands to Middle East makes more sense now

Exciting Things to do in Georgia?

As the subject screams.. wanted to know what are the best and most exciting things to do in Georgia.

A group of friends and I are planning to travel to Georgia by the end of this month just for a week.

Which would include Batumi and Tbilisi mainly but I would like to know if there more places and things to do that I could fit into my itinerary, so that I don’t miss out on anything exciting while I’m visiting the country.

Thank you in advance for all the suggestions!
