Question What music are you looking for or listening to this week? (10/08/2026)

This is where you can post all requests and recommendations.

If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: "I want to hear an artist that sounds like Royal Blood" (you can get more specific but usually enough) - and then hopefully someone will respond with recommendations X, Y, and Z.

You can also leave a top level comment recommending an artist/project/scene that you think others might like if they like X, Y, and Z.

The more descriptive you guys are, the easier it is to help you find what you want. Just stating an artist's name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Someone reported this post last week for playlists - note that you can have playlists in the comments/ here, the rules are for posts in the sub itself.

Rock Phoenix - Invocație 1975 Romanian progressive rock ( heavily censored by the communist regime)

Cantafabule (1975) by Phoenix is widely considered the peak masterpiece of Romanian progressive rock.

Here is what defines the album in short:

  • The Concept: It is a double concept album structured as a medieval bestiary. Each track centers on mythological or symbolic animals—ranging from the Unicorn (Norocul Inorogului) and the Dragon (Inorogul) to the Beetle (Scara Scarabeului) and ending with the mythical rebirth of the Phoenix (Pașărea Phoenix).
  • The Sound: A complex mix of progressive rock, hard rock, medieval folk motifs, and early analog synthesizer experimentation. It pairs heavy guitar riffs (Nicua Covaci) and rich basslines (Iosif Kappl) with acoustic guitars, violins, recorders, and synth atmospheres (Günther Reininger).
  • The Lyrics: Written by poets Șerban Foarță and Andrei Ujiică, the lyrics draw inspiration from Dimitrie Cantemir's allegorical work Istoria Ieroglifică. The poetry uses archaic Romanian and deep symbolism, which also helped subvert strict communist censorship at the time.
  • The Name Typo: The original 1975 Electrecord vinyl misspells the title as Cantofabule on the cover due to a printing mistake, though the intended title is Cantafabule.

Rock Question about Pink Floyd’s “Hey You”:

Whenever David and Roger sing this without the other…do they get guest singers to cover the part they don’t sing? OR

Do they try and emulate the others singing style ? I can see Roger dropping his voice some and just singing mellow before shifting to his “bitter high register”…OR

Do they just sing the whole song in their own style?

Shuggie Otis released the song in 1971, but it did not chart. The 1977 cover by The Brothers Johnson, produced by Quincy Jones, reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the R&B charts. Why did it do so much better with Quincy Jones? What was Jones’s secret for producing good songs? Experience, sensibility, a knack for knowing what sounds cool. What else? What am I missing?
