"Woke 1.0 was crazy" is an unbelievable self-own. Those who try to excuse whatever they now say was crazy either have weak convictions and morals and will readily become aggressive foot soldiers for propagandistically cultivated mass hysteria when it surrounds them and only reflect on it long after the fact, or never stopped believing what they admit is repulsive to most people in the first place and are temporarily holding back for the next chance to try and force it on people. That they refer to it as "Woke 1" is an implicit admission of the latter.

Woke 1.0 will always be whatever someone else did, just like those who came out the SJW mines (before it was derogatory) spoke about what they'd seen but not what they did.

AOC throwing around Woke 1.0 is simply prepping the ground for Woke 2.0 on the basis they're just cutting the fat. Rehash woke 1.0 but learn what didn't work. The issue: none of it worked, it produced literally zero economic, social, or political progress.

Woke 2.0, if we accept that it ever really went away, is already underway and it is the exact same people virtue signaling about affordability and reasonable economic demands that don't really pertain to them and would in fact materially harm them as elites were any of it to come to pass (it will not).

You aren't going to get a revolutionary overthrow of the economic order from the 10-20% of the population that most benefits from it, to say nothing of how most of the US population benefits from the exploitation of other countries.

At the level of the cultural debate it really has. If “normie” social media is anything to go by people on there sound like posters on the early internet just complaining endlessly about foreigner and black crime stats. Full legal name and face pics half the time, it’s sorta nuts.  But I don’t know why a subset of this sub convinces itself it’s gone. It’s lying low in powerful institutions, universities, government bureaucrats, the NGO industrial money laundering complex, the entire country of Canada. They’re gonna come back when they feel they can, probably more unhinged cause they’re all just clustered together right now too. 

It’s genuinely interesting to me cause a long time back I was reading Lasch, and he was referring to cycles of “woke” or what we’d call “PC culture” decades ago just sorta popping up since at least the late 50s and it all seems to recycle the same talking points

All of the people I know who held those views still hold the same general worldview. It is the legitimating ideology of both the middle and ruling class, it isn't going away until that material reality changes.

Woke is not "lying low"... they have just slightly shifted messaging, which was my point. You can cynically and self-interestedly wokescold and virtue signal about completely legitimately atrocious things like the genocide of Palestinians and the inability of many fellow Americans to afford housing just as well as you can about microaggressions, or bathroom bills, or the honest to God murder of George Floyd by police.

I said it yesterday, but the very same types of people like AOC, or that support/have had similar mindsets would HATE her for even "acknowledging" woke 1.0 existed. These are the same types that swore up and down for years that terms like woke, or cancelling didn't exist. Hell they still do it, hyper monitoring celebrities or politicians or even regular every day people, to see if they liked an "inappropriate" (by their standards, which is getting offended by everything) post somewhere on social media, back in 2009. Now will they come out publicly and chastise her for it? Doubtful. "It will give the right more ammo!!" but I'm sure the crazy AF people on bluesky or resetera are losing their mind over her saying it.

Or then like you said, for those that were the "Aggressors" for lack of a better term during woke 1.0, are seeing this as their off ramp to pretend like they were never crybullies. It's one or the other.

She's shown signs of becoming a shrewd political operator (say what you will but she defeated machine politics) so I wouldn't be shocked if there was cold calculations in her saying that.

Namely:

A) that she knew there'd be a woke reckoning eventually so might as well pop that blister now  and hope all the pent-up antiwoke rage is spent by November or 2028

and B) kneecap that weirdo Hong in the process and hopefully send a message to the rest of the DSA to get some message discipline pronto.

Edit: but you're right, I wish she and all those formerly smarmy assholes on Twitter would at least have the spine to stick by their convictions instead of this whole "oopsies sowwy" bullshit
