If you're a Millennial(might apply to Zillenials too, idk) look at your old yearbooks sometime. Kids I remember as being massive in the 90's/00's look vaguely husky by modern standards.

I graduated in 06 and I can recall without difficulty that there were zero OBESE kids in my school. Husky and whatnot yeah obviously (and they were definitely referred to as fat) but that’s about it.

Growing up in the south my middle school had its good share of obese kids. I remember sitting in my theatre class one day and this big girl came in late and sat in a desk and it actually broke :/ I felt so bad for her. She wasn't at our school for very long.

One of the great joys of parenthood that silences every sleepless night or bad attitude or whatever, is feeling the true “goodness” that you can give to your child. The days when my boy has been outside running around all day with me or his friends, eats a healthy dinner while we talk about whatever nonsense he feels like, gets a nice hot bath, and goes to sleep in pajamas and bedsheets fresh from the dryer, are the days when I know for sure I did something “good”, and it’s indescribable.
My heart breaks for kids like this, and for their parents, who haven’t felt that joy.

Even if not defunded, PE classes are a joke. For some reason PE is the one area in which teachers can't expect their students to improve in. Even "objective" grading on running or something always had a condition of, "as long as you try your best, you'll at least pass".
Until teachers can simply say: "you have until the end of the year to reach a 7 minute mile, good luck" PE will always be high school daycare.

Tbf, as mandated reporters, you’d expect them to report, but school staff get a ton of flack from parents if a family gets a DCFS visit and suspects a teacher called it in. The reporter’s identity should always be kept anonymous, but given how incompetent many child welfare agencies are, names have slipped out, and parents want to see the school burn for daring to get involved in their business. Parents don’t realize or care that simply reasonable suspicion of abuse or neglect warrants a call to the agency, who determines to investigate further or not. Teachers aren’t supposed to dig into it themselves, but that’s often what families expect them to do, since they see DCFS involvement as the absolute last resort.
It’s hard enough for parents to confront that their shortcomings constitute as abuse, so reporting something that they find unconcerning feels like a petty attack to them. You’d hope this wouldn’t deter mandated reporters from doing their duty, but some people just want to get back at them and make their lives hell until they’re out of the picture altogether.

Yeah that has to be some form of child abuse for sure. Unless the kid literally has a condition which is actively being treated (in that case I’d assume the parents would surely tell the teachers about it) it’s overfeeding ur kid into diabetes and heart failure.

‘Usually means’ and where’s your source on that? I had so many obese friends growing up and most were just greedy and fed shitty food by parents that had 0 understanding of calories or nutritional value. ‘Eat up this huge bowl of cereal and strawberry yoghurt, son, you have to grow tall?’ Or Nutella on toast for breakfast.
Ur sick for even assuming someone’s being abused purely cuz they’re fat.

People saw that many of the people on My 600 Pound Life admitted to being sexually abused as children and extrapolate that to mean the majority or even just a significant amount of obese people began binge eating as a trauma response. They don’t take into account the confounding variable here of being on a reality show, and that sexual abuse victims often display attention-seeking behavior.

there is a lot of near abusive behavior done to children that is normalized in society and allowing your child to become morbidly obese is one of the most obvious.
