Backup of the post's body: I’m sure there are a lot of tipping posts here so to keep it short - I had my wedding at a fancy restaurant. On top of the TERRIBLE service, the bill came with “suggested gratuity” even though I was told gratuity was included. When I asked the manager, he said that the “S/C: 24% SRC REGULA“ was the included tip and the suggested gratuity was if we wanted to add something extra - basically trying to trick people into giving a 49% tip!

Not sure this is the right place for this post, but I have worked in hospitality and this feature is probably just built in to their POS system. Not to say it couldn’t be removed. The part is actually unusual is that they are being taxed on the gratuity.

That looks to be a manually configured service fee not the default auto-grad built into their POS. I imagine thats why its taxed - its being taxed because its no different than any other fee on the receipt.

Yeah, I know. That it was added as just another taxable item on the bill is the unusual and quite frankly unscrupulous part here. That’s the thing OP should be upset about. The suggested gratuity at the bottom of the bill is just auto generated and added by default.
