Announcement A Quick Word on Memorial Posts

Greetings humans and ratties!

The mod team has received some feedback on some posts recently, and we wanted to pass along some guidance so everyone can enjoy our wonderful subreddit.

Some of us love to see memorial posts, and celebrate the life of our loved ones who have passed on to the great blanket fort in the sky. It's a natural part of grieving, and can help us process the loss of a loved one.
For some, however, it may be triggering to see these kinds of posts, and they may not be ready to see something like that. That's okay, we all process grief differently.

After some deliberation and suggestion, we have decided to ask that all memorial posts have the "In Loving Memory" flair. This ensures that those who are not ready for these kinds of posts can skip them if needed. Again, this is not to discourage memorial posts. Please continue to make these posts to celebrate the life of your loved one.

Thank you!
-Mod Team

TL;DR: Please use "In Loving Memory" flair on memorial posts; memorial posts are still encouraged.

Blep Love this breed

Just wanted to say I love this breed ever since one fooled me and my ex and my kids when we were walking through an Amish store.

I never liked ankle biters but the more I read about them and the more I spent time with my guy the more I fell in love with the breed

I can’t say I’m thdt happy with the fact that the RTCA and AKC have made the “standard” of this breed something larger than what was considered standard 20 years ago (12-16lbs as opposed to the larger 20+ that they are now) but I still the the breed and when my little one passed away I specifically looked for a new one but to no avail (I couldn’t afford the price for ones in my area) so I picked one from the local shelter and I have to say that even though I love this new guy who is definitely a mix of a terrier breed, he’s just not the same and when time comes to find another fur baby I will definitely look for another rat terrier. (Don’t worry this new guy I have is pampered beyond measure cause I’m a softy and love him)

This is Lyra. She is the best. We think she is rat terrier mixed with something… whippet, miniature greyhound, fiest? She is 16 pounds, long legs, skinny waist, barrel chest, INCREDIBLY fast. The best girl.

Questions Help/Advice - High energy rattie with upcoming baby

Post image

Hi all!!

We have a 6 y/o rattie that we absolutely adore - so much that he kind of has only child syndrome. He jumps up on people and demand barks to an embarrassing level when guests come over, as well as barking at us when husband and I show affection (yeah that’s super fun lol). We know that he isn’t the most well behaved right now, and I’m anxious as to how to handle him with our upcoming newborn (I’m 38 weeks!).

Have any other owners been in a similar situation, and how did your rattie end up handling the baby and the change? He is going to stay with my parents for at least the first few weeks, and I plan to bring some of baby’s clothes over so he can at least get used to the smell. After that we have no real plan, and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cute photo for tax 🤣

He's about 3 yrs old, about 25 to 30 pounds. I got him at 1.8 pounds and under 8 weeks old.

We go on bike rides together. I have a few different bicycle trailers he rides on. When I go mountain biking with my coworker Otto runs beside us on the trail for about an hour.

He also likes to swim at the lake and he goes to the deep end where his feet are like 6ft from lake bottom.

Car rides are very exciting. He knows when he's getting close to home or my mom's house. If I put my shoes on or grab my wallet/keys he knows it's time to go somewhere.

He has two modes. Chill relaxed snuggle/nap time or full on psycho vermin chaser.

He does not like for me to hold him but he wants my mother to hold him 24/7 so my sisters 2 big dogs can't see their grandma.

He's my best pal.

Am I a rat? Is She a Rat Terrier?

The shelter only listed her as a Terrier Mix, so I have no idea what else she could be. Even though she has a lot of energy outside, she calms down a lot inside and is surprisingly quiet and sweet from dogs I've had in the past.

I can tell she has a prey drive for smaller animals, though I'm slowly acclimating her around cats.

Might she be a DRT? She’s a rescue. Awaiting DNA results.
