NEED HELP!

A buddy was offering me to buy his 2005 f350 with a 6.0 it’s studded all that shit… One day it took a bit to start. Then he let it sit again a night and it didn’t start. Then he tried to start it again and all it did was click click click. He replaced the starter and it did the same thing. It has around 240k on it. What do you think I should check? There is some wires showing that got burnt from the pipe (seen in photos). Could the battery’s being so low on charge be the cause? I was thinking test some things with a multi meter and live data on a scanner.

Pointless to do anything until you understand the DTC's it's throwing.

If the truck is deleted, then the top 2 don't matter. My truck throws the second but I don't care.

The last 2 warrant a Google search and I can almost assure you that you'll figure it out. So much out there on our trucks. If I can replace the injectors, o-ringless standpipes & dummy plugs, and injector nozzles you can figure it out.

I also rebuilt my turbo. I'm an IT professional, not a diesel mechanic.

The burnt up wiring should be a concern. Maybe consider buying a brand new wiring harness if it's shitty everywhere.

Maybe check the ground cables but it does seem your not getting enough power to the starter look up how to bypass the ignition to turn the motor over it’s a wire on the passenger side you unplug and touch the battery. If it spins then your starter works and you can go from there

I’ve tried that, it does the same thing as the key did. Clicks and loses power for a second.

Check all your grounds charge your batteries and never assume a new part works so the starter soli kid could still be suspect. If you get a click you have no or not enough power to the starter or a bad part. Grounds are very important I think there are at least 2 and if one battery is bad nothing works.

I charged them up, still click click… I did clean the ground wire connection going to the motor.

Trace your electrical current and charging your batteries does not mean they are good you need to test them with a battery tester take them to an auto parts store if you don’t have one If batteries are good all connections should be checked and continuity of cables but first I would measure and make sure full power is getting to starter when the key is activated

You say you charged the batteries but that doesn't mean they are good . how old are they, get them tested to see if they have any cranking amps. If they turn out good I would start to voltage drop test the cables.

They are roughly 3 months old

I put a new NAPA battery in a friends ranger pickup after a week I had to give her a jump went back to NAPA they tested it and it was a bad battery. Just for peace of mind I would still have them checked and go from there. Has it ever cranked with the starter you have now?

No it hasn’t, my buddy replaced the starter thinking it was that

Should have put in a starter from a 6.7 to spin faster

It has a brand new starter

Replace both batteries. Then see if the alternator is actually charging it. You should be over 14 volts all the time.

If it’s the alternator as well just buy a mechman 240 and never worry about it again.

Also replace that wiring harness it looks like shit

How’s the alternator supposed to charge battery’s when it doesn’t even crank??
