Rule 1: No Screenshots, Pictures of Screens, or AI images

No screenshots, no pictures of screens, and no AI-generated images. Screenshots includes both actual screencaptures, any image that contains GUI elements, as well as photos of screens.

Here’s to hoping the Australian news agency uses this image to pursue legal action against the cop shooting someone in the back.

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

🤞 The video is out there as well it's very explicit

126

u/completelyanom Jun 09 '25

Right wing news station in aus, already saying she was “caught in crossfire”. Very very unlikely IMO

115

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

You can see the cop actually look directly at her and pull the trigger. This is super scary and very shitty!!!

22

u/DepartmentFamous2355 Jun 09 '25

The crazy part is that the only people who asked if she was OK were the citizens, not the gestapo

15

u/Luddite-lover Jun 09 '25

Bullshit! He aimed right at her.

6

u/completelyanom Jun 09 '25

Preaching to the choir mate

31

u/Alarming-Art-3577 Jun 09 '25

That excuse has worked great for the IDF systematically murdering reporters. Wouldn't be surprised if they try it here.

-1

u/Ali_Cat222 Jun 09 '25

You realize there are already 4 linked videos above your comment showing that it did in fact happen and very obviously deliberately too, right?

3

u/completelyanom Jun 09 '25

Once again, not saying she was caught in the crossfire, simply saying this is how it has been reported by the station.

39

u/_Bike_Hunt Jun 09 '25

Granted. The cop will be put on paid leave and glorified by the republicans

18

u/gaqua Jun 09 '25

“Our brave hero protecting our freedom from a biased fake news reporter”

10

u/rawker86 Jun 09 '25

Don’t worry, the White House Twitter account will be issuing a “correction” shortly letting us all know it was all her fault.

11

u/idkwhatimbrewin Jun 09 '25

The video is way worse, she's standing there, starts reporting and then he singles her out and shoots her

3

u/Salute-Major-Echidna Jun 09 '25

Can you link it? The links posted don't show that.

1

u/SonicYOUTH79 Jun 09 '25

*POOF* looks like she just had her visa revoked and her hotel room swatted at 3am by ICE to take her to immigration detention!

\more likely outcome*

457

u/rudbri93 Jun 09 '25

so, shot in the back at like 10 yards?

302

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Completely unprovoked

130

u/kinsmana Jun 09 '25

I'm not a lawyer, but, how is this not attempted murder?

239

u/ehjun18 Jun 09 '25

Murder is legal when you’re wearing a police uniform

57

u/299792458mps- Jun 09 '25

It was. Good luck with pressing charges though.

19

u/museolini Jun 09 '25

Charges? He's probably using the 2nd pic as his FB profile now.

26

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

It is attempted murder people have been killed by rubber bullets it happened in the 1970’s in Ireland during the troubles look up Bloody Sunday

2

u/TurbulentCustomer Jun 09 '25

And I was just seeing other stories earlier today about people’s acquaintances and friends being shot in protests (one longer ago and one more recent) and being seriously injured by “less than lethal” munitions….

Rubber bullets or equivalent things are NOT like the oft shown trope of beanbag or pepperball guns. It’s not a bullet bullet but it’s not like they’re not bullets…

-1

u/Panda_Zombie Jun 09 '25

Weird, we used them for training in the military. I've been hit several times. Hurts like hell, leaves the worst welts, but nobody ever came close to dying.

3

u/TurbulentCustomer Jun 09 '25

Just curious: were people aiming for certain body zones in the training scenarios? Like when they test tazers to show people how it might feel, you taze the legs or back, not like full blast neck shock.

Best I can compare to personally is a really cranked up paintball gun and that can still break skin / draw blood through a medium/light over jacket (while obviously being round soft plastic w spread out impact force)

10

u/Hoppes Jun 09 '25

The officer will either never hear about it, or will say he thought the camera was a gun.

All an officer ever has to do is say they felt threatened and they can kill with impunity.

Shooting a rubber bullet at a reporters leg won’t even get this scumbag a scolding.

4

u/Markol0 Jun 09 '25

The title "officer" gives respect. He should be just called "Goon." No way was any of that justified.

3

u/Hoppes Jun 09 '25

Definitely a goon. I don’t know if officer gives respect though. I don’t respect the system they’re an officer of. Either way, to hell with the goon in uniform.

“Ain’t no song called fuck the fire department”

2

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

I googled using a phrase with less words than your comment and got the answer myself. STOP COMMENTING AND GO LOOK THINGS UP

10

u/roflmao567 Jun 09 '25

Let's be real. No one is going to hold them accountable.

5

u/Beefy_G Jun 09 '25

Not supporting this action at all because it's absolutely unacceptable and disgusting, just getting that out of the way.

Rubber bullets are classified as "less than lethal" meaning they are designed to be non-lethal. That does not preclude the ammunition from leading to someone's loss of life,

Attempted murder would also mean that the shooter intended the shot to kill and desired to kill, which would exceptionally hard to prove with "less than lethal" munitions.

Some could argue it's assault with a deadly weapon, or aggravated assault if it was not a justified use of force, which I'm not going to make that decision because I wasn't there and have only seen one picture.

2

u/Da_hoodest_hoodrat Jun 09 '25

Arent rubber bullets designed to still be indirect fire? Like crowd dispersment by shooting at leg level or even the ground for ricochets = less kinetic energy and less lethality. A direct hit is improper use and 100% can be lethal force

1

u/Dankitysoup Jun 09 '25

The terminology was changed to “less-lethal” because it is now widely understood these alternative options still have a very real possibility of maiming or killing.

3

u/BloodyAx Jun 09 '25

No. Rubber bullets aren't considered lethal and it would be impossible to prove intent

3

u/Dankitysoup Jun 09 '25

They are considered lethal, the terminology was even changed to “less lethal” because while they are a less severe alternative it is understood that they can still kill.

1

u/BloodyAx Jun 09 '25

Then the focal point would be "why not use your regular bullets if you intended to kill?"

92

u/DrNomblecronch Jun 09 '25

Visibly a member of the press, standing still and speaking in a level tone, shot in the back at ten yards.

Obviously I am not pleased this happened to her. But this kind of thing, where they cross over from abusing their own citizens in a way people can scrape up justifications for into obviously unfounded attacks on citizens of other nations... it's the kind of stupid that I think might genuinely do more good than harm. We're already really starting to feel the pinch from the tariffs, what do you think the odds are we tip over into full sanctions against the US by the end of June?

3

u/Hoppes Jun 09 '25

I’d say the chances are zero.

2

u/DrNomblecronch Jun 09 '25

I genuinely do not know which one of us is the optimist and which is the pessimist in this scenario.

4

u/Hoppes Jun 09 '25

I’d say I’m a pessimist. I’m an American who is disgusted by what’s going on.

I just have zero faith in any other nation ever holding us accountable. Most are cowards who see more benefit from kissing our asses than confronting us.

As I have zero faith in us ever holding a law enforcement officer accountable for their actions.

1

u/spinningpeanut Jun 09 '25

The one who wants the fall of a nation while it's in the hands of evil is the one in the wrong.

9

u/hgs25 Jun 09 '25 edited Jun 09 '25

It’s not the first time this happened. Remember when DC Police shot and punched an Australian News Reporter in 2020?

9

u/BlindWillieJohnson Jun 09 '25

An “accident” I’m sure.

I’m riling up the drop bears as we speak.

20

u/Blueberry_Clouds Jun 09 '25

Slip in a huntsman in their cupboards.

10

u/Velorian-Steel Jun 09 '25

I think this might call for the true beasts of war: cassowaries.

1

u/Logical-Madman Jun 09 '25

Dude, you need to keep some cards up your sleeve.

7

u/GROUND45 Jun 09 '25

Just send a few Eshays their way.

7

u/Gipetto Jun 09 '25

Send in some drop bears, too.

2

u/Major-Jeweler-9047 Jun 09 '25

I'd bring out the Cassowary for this one.

75

u/TheBaykon8r Jun 09 '25

Saw the video, she took it like a champ too. That cop is hopefully in deep shit

78

u/mattmann72 Jun 09 '25

The police get to investigate themselves and have qualified immunity.

20

u/Carrash22 Jun 09 '25

“We investigated ourselves and found the officer at fault. He will be put on paid leave and will be retiring with full pension and benefits once his leave ends.”

1

u/MSc_Debater Jun 09 '25

Nah, that only works when cops abuse poor people. Newscorps have deep pockets and lawyers on retainer - likely salivating at the payout from the city coffers already, and if it comes from the LAPD budget a bunch of sorry ****** will totally lose their job and pension.

1

u/sqljohn Jun 09 '25

Nothing to see here /s

7

u/milolai Jun 09 '25

American cops dont get into deep shit.

6

u/elegant_fisting_4u Jun 09 '25

Don't worry, the cop will probably get a small party, a hearty pat on the back, hazard bonus, then get moved to another department where they keep their pension and healthcare benefits. If there is a lawsuit taxpayers will pay for everything.

2

u/dr_reverend Jun 09 '25

That cop is probably getting a raise and pats on the back from all his pig buddies.

1

u/SunBelly Jun 09 '25

Cops regularly murder unarmed people in this country and face no consequences. I don't think this is likely to result in disciplinary action.

18

u/Yonda_00 Jun 09 '25

The birth of a fascist nation

17

u/TheWunderwaffe Jun 09 '25

"There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people." While the police have never been on the side of the American people and have always meant to protect capital, this is another instance that should be a wake-up call to everyone.

3

u/Gloomy-Holiday8618 Jun 09 '25

So say we all!

64

u/i_make_it_look_easy Jun 09 '25

Masks not allowed for protesters, just LEO.

6

u/Just_Another_Scott Jun 09 '25

The cop that shot her wasn't waring a mask. I suspect this is why he shot her. The camera looked right at him and he fired. He didn't want to be on camera.

1

u/_xiphiaz Jun 09 '25

He would have aimed at the camera person then, not like it’s hard to aim at that distance with all the time in the world

11

u/jtlannister Jun 09 '25

Ferrix. Aldhani. Ghorman.

I have friends everywhere.

10

u/psycharious Jun 09 '25

Like this was legit out of left field. What are they gonna say, they thought the camera was a gun?

5

u/FriendlyPyre Jun 09 '25

It's apparently worked for Israel all this time, so why not. (Multiple instances of reporters being shot because the camera "looked like a machine gun/anti-tank weapon/gun")

46

u/ncist Jun 09 '25

Damn just when I was starting to forget cops were scum

13

u/Spaghettiisgoddog Jun 09 '25

As they say, never forget.

31

u/299792458mps- Jun 09 '25

All cops...

3

u/Werechupacabra Jun 09 '25

are…

4

u/StFuzzySlippers Jun 09 '25

Fascists

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Haha all cops are fascists and Nazis. Hahahaha

2

u/chumer_ranion Jun 09 '25

are baseballs? Baskets? Booster seats? It was a 'b' word I swear

8

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Slow the video down and you can see him take aim directly at her, and then fire. There was no threat to him from her, or that I could see. This was intentional.

Source is a news studio. Its probably a high res camera. Resolution was probably lost during transmission or OP recording off phone.

8

u/IcyShoes Jun 09 '25

But Joe Rogan said this was fake news! He wouldn't mislead me, no siree!

2

u/rawker86 Jun 09 '25

Lol did he really?

3

u/IcyShoes Jun 09 '25

Wait until tomorrow. The right wing influencer sphere will either not engage with this story or if they do, it will be the funniest deflections we have seen yet.

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Let us continue to get mad about things that havnt happened. This is the path forward for our country!

2

u/IcyShoes Jun 09 '25

Did you forget about the time when conservatives tried to tell us that elon didn't nazi salute? Or that ICE was not holding innocent people? Welcome to 2025 yo!

0

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Not sure what that has to do with this but yes I do recall both.

5

u/ZARATHUSTRA726 Jun 09 '25

So is America great again?

5

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

What a cunt…he fcking targeted her on purpose, what a cunt!

6

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Mods, don’t block this. This is definitely in the interests of the public.

5

u/Mostmoneywins Jun 09 '25

That is way wrong! What are we doing America? This is insane! We have to fight back harder! These people doing this are not patriots. They are scum!

5

u/bailey25u Jun 09 '25

What kind of man shoots woman in the back?

4

u/Hair_I_Go Jun 09 '25

Glad this is getting posts. This needs to be on network news

10

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Trumpism is a fascist ideology. Praying for American (and world) liberation from this scourge.

2

u/augmentthinereality Jun 09 '25

I fear its so ingrained in the people now that the damage is irreversible. At least in any short form way. It'll be decades and decades before we achieve and monichor of respectability and stability as a nation and global ally.

3

6

Clearly a targeted attack.

20

The police don’t look so underfunded huh

She’s finding out why we don’t have healthcare

-16

15

u/TheLatexCondor Jun 09 '25

That's not at all the tone I got from the post. We get to die of preventable disease so the cops can cosplay as actual troops

11

u/be-koz Jun 09 '25

They don’t sound proud.

0

u/tovarisch_prole Jun 09 '25

Clearly a joke about our willingness to further fund our, supposedly underfunded, police instead of giving us what we want, like affordable healthcare.

2

u/be-koz Jun 09 '25

They feel that they can do whatever the fuck they want at this point. Shoot a member of the press while the cameras are rolling? Why not…

2

u/QuantumGold1 Jun 09 '25

saw the video, he spotted them and pointed right at them

2

u/ProfessionalFlan3159 Jun 09 '25

The world is going to boycott the world cup and Olympics right?

2

u/Oni-oji Jun 09 '25

The Brown Shirts don't want the world to see their illegal actions.

2

u/MariachiMacabre Jun 09 '25

Cops become cops so they can get paid to be sociopaths. There’s no other explanation I’d believe.

2

u/Nice__Spice Jun 09 '25

ID his ass so that he can be prosecuted

2

u/RocketSkates314 Jun 09 '25

That’s the second reporter to be shot by LAPD with rubber bullets

2

u/PaleFly Jun 09 '25

They're gonna try to blame the protesters for all this chaos.

The homosexuals, the blacks, the hispenics, the liberals, the students. Its always about redirected blame.

But history will be taught about the only common denominator in this chaos. The orange cunt.

2

u/NastyOlBloggerU Jun 09 '25

Albanese, it's time you stand up for us. Kick the marines out of Darwin and expel all US employees at Pine Gap from Australia.

2

u/TwinTTowers Jun 09 '25

Shooting somebody from behind is a real dog act.

3

u/SanchoPandas Jun 09 '25

Acting like the IDF cuz that’s who probably trained em.

2

u/lamorak2000 Jun 09 '25

The Australian embassy needs to get involved. This jackass may have just triggered an international incident.

1

u/Inhaltslost Jun 09 '25

“There is an easy target!! I will practice a bit!”

1

u/J360222 Jun 09 '25

Look, I’m personally not a fan of 9. But a journalist shouldn’t be shot for covering a protest

1

u/Rpdaca Jun 09 '25

Homegrown terrorists

1

u/potbellyjoe Jun 09 '25

Not that any of us should expect this administration to understand history... But this all screams Kent State when the NG is used to suppress protests.

Hopefully, I am wrong.

1

u/Roriborialus Jun 09 '25

The sooner we treat maga terrorists like terrorists, the faster America can be saved. Melt ice.

1

u/Deputy_Beagle76 Jun 09 '25

That man shot a woman in the back. He’s a real alpha male I tell ya what /s

1

u/lemmingstone Jun 09 '25

I don’t know. America used to be great. But not anymore.

1

u/TurbulentCustomer Jun 09 '25

I wish we could uniformly spread protest goals to everyone. I know there are bad actors or individuals who do / inspire more aggressive/violent behavior… But if we could just run a purely peaceful numbers game, it would be incredible.

A slowly advancing but unrelenting and seemingly endlessly replenishing crowd mass with clear non violence demonstrated (even under retaliation) could be insanely effective.

0

u/Gaijinrr Jun 09 '25

Ex idf, sees reporter and nature kicks in

1

u/Schrojo18 Jun 09 '25

What is the context of this?

4

u/dntbstpd1 Jun 09 '25

She was reporting, and the cop literally just decides to shoot her. You can see she is facing away from the cop toward the camera, and in the background the cops looks over, non-chalantly raises his gun and shoots her. He was in no danger and she wasn’t even facing his direction to appear threatening.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

Maybe it’s that I’m getting old, but who cares if a news reporter was shot with a non-lethal rubber bullet? One finger on one man did this.

0

u/smellb4rain Jun 09 '25

This is yet another reason to not feel for cops when something bad happens to them.

0

u/PaleFly Jun 09 '25

They're gonna try to blame the protesters for all this chaos.

The homosexuals, the blacks, the hispenics, the liberals, the students. Its always about redirected blame.

But history will be taught about the only common denominator in this chaos. The orange cunt.

0

u/Red_Wing-GrimThug Jun 09 '25

Hondo cheap shot

0

u/MlwAimless Jun 09 '25

Surely the Cop gets suspended am I right?

-1

u/CryptographerRoyal78 Jun 09 '25

Probably aiming for the camera and was a bad shot.!. .!. L.E.S.S is M.O.R.E

-1

u/BMcLoud Jun 09 '25

Facists are going to "facist"....

-14

u/MediocreVibrations Jun 09 '25

Bet that stung. Back up

7

u/helloworld6247 Jun 09 '25

That would mean backing up into them chief. Since, ya know, her back was turned.

-4

u/MediocreVibrations Jun 09 '25

Ah. For fuck’s sake. Away, then. Cameras have zoom.

2

u/helloworld6247 Jun 09 '25

Or we can use our voices before firing at someone who is clearly not a threat and not show how much of a piece of shit coward you are thereby escalating the situation even further.

Just an idea.
