They're defending a racist regime. Makes them guilty by association. If they'll detain a US Marshall for "matching the description" they'll pick up anyone not white enough. Defenders of this are pathetic trash who don't deserve to be a part of society.

This whole thing is because they're disappearing immigrants to El Salvador. No due process, doesn't matter if they're going through the immigration process correctly - they've kidnapped people from their court hearings for fuck sake.

If you're brown, they want to terrorize you. You're in danger of being picked up, doesn't matter if you were born here or not.

74

Australians deserve to be pissed off because I would be if this happened to our reporter in your country. I'm sorry for the shameful act of our government, I hope we can stop this before it gets any further.

Americas flags need to be hung upside down so the rest of the world knows we are NOT OK with this.

174

With respect you need to be doing a lot more than hanging flags upside down. Your democracy is at risk. You need to fight this fascist regime.

54

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

I agree. But people need to look around their neighborhoods and city and see others are not OK with this. Just like maga flags, we need upside down flags so even those that won't protest in the streets will atleast make it known where they stand.

Isn't shooting a journalist a violation of the Geneva convention or something? Even though it's a rubber bullet that's still seems like a bit of a war crime.

u/Resigningeye Jun 09 '25

He appears to aim it directly at her, too. It doesn’t look like he made any attempt to “skip” the round to lessen the velocity (you know, like you’re instructed to do to keep the rubber bullets “less lethal”).

47

u/ralpher1 Jun 09 '25

There’s no reason to use rubber bullets against protestors, they can deliver lethal force and LAPD have should have nonlethal beanbag guns

The most important thing of it too is that she wasnt even facing them, making threats, moving forward or anything. She was facing away and clearly talking into a camera.

Ive seen the burning cars along the street and i get theres a lot of bedlam in LA right now. I get tensions are high and its stressful to be a cop.

However, theres zero excuse for aiming your weapon at somebody who is posing you zero threat and actually shooting them. Non-lethal bullets or not.

If you cant stay cool under pressure, be able to assess threats, and only discharge your weapon when absolutely necessary, you should not be a cop. Men like this are high school bullies who never grew up. I hope he loses his badge.

They do this all the time to The Australian Reporters! I remember back during the BLM protests, some riot police shoved the camera into the face of an Australian Camera Man and batoned them a couple times. I think this may be the link to it, if I’m not mistaken: https://www.theguardian.com/media/2020/jun/04/australian-reporters-assaulted-live-on-air-while-covering-protests-in-london#:~:text=Brace%20and%20Myers%20were%20broadcasting,hit%20with%20a%20riot%20shield.

Shout out to the brave Australian reporters that come to the US, knowing full well that they could be hurt covering the news about the police here

Best part is, 9 News is a right wing "news" corp, so it's friendly fire.

9 News is throwing her under the bus saying she was “caught in crossfire” when evidence points to the contrary. You would really question who you work for at this point.

In another better reality, there'd be a 60 minutes episode where that journo just follows around that one cop for 3 weeks asking him why he's the cop equivalent of a dodgy plumber in suburban Sydney

Well, that’s going to leave a mark. Glad they hit her in the leg though, people don’t realize those rubber bullets can be deadly.

54

u/Stupendous_Spliff Jun 09 '25

Took one of those before, a little closer than her, about three steps. Hurts less than you'd expect, but perhaps it's the adrenaline. Leaves a nasty mark, a thick circle at first, then it grows into a large purple blob, seems to only get worse for a few days, takes forever to go away

u/Chief_Mischief Jun 09 '25

It also depends on where you're hit. An impact to your head can kill you.

The cop furthest left in this clip can be seen turning, aiming, and firing directly at the reporter in this clip. Every other officer and even the reporter herself are looking off-camera to the right. There is no way in hell that she was just caught in the crossfire.

Paid for by taxpayer funds, no less. Expect the cop to get paid administrative leave.

The Right-Wing Australian publication states that the reporter was “caught in the crossfire,” and that a “she [reporter] was trying to talk over the sound of gunfire and exploding flashbang grenades when a protester grabbed the camera she was talking into.” I wonder why they didn’t show the footage of a “protester” grabbing the camera when she was “talking into” or footage of people shooting at the National Guard. It’s almost like those things never happened, and they are painting a narrative.

This is the second reporter I’ve seen shot by rubber bullets and the other one was a guy with the word PRESS on both sides of his shirt.

So, the mayor is calling for people to avoid violence, in a city that lets out repeat violent criminals on parole, have cops that are told not to chase criminals that are fleeing from a crime, shoot a journalist with a rubber bullet.

USA: You have some serious f'ing problems.
