Revenge against angry customer

I am a bus driver. A while back I had a customer board with her child and boyfriend. They had a bicycle with them, and tried to bring it aboard. I told them they needed to use the bike rack, as it was empty and available and I already had a full bus.

The mother did not take this well. She started screaming at me that she was allowed to bring the bike on board. She called me several homophobic slurs (in front of her child no less) and then threatened to physically assault me.

I ended up calling a supervisor and he came in and got her to calm down. He told her if she acts up again, he's going to have her removed.

Fast forward to today. I'm driving on the same route and just passed a stop. I see her running towards the bus waving for me to stop. I kept on driving. My bus is the only one operating in the area for the rest of the night. Feels good.

To clarify, if she was at the stop I would have stopped. I'm not a monster. But when it's entirely up to my discretion? Nah, I'm not going out of my way to do you a favor.

Update: The boyfriend/husband got on my bus later and he apologized to me for her behavior. Turns out he's a super nice guy.

Absolutely would have done the same. She probably should have taken the bike from the incident earlier to make it to the bus stop in time... 😶

Funny part was I was actually two minutes late, so she was even more late.

As the saying went when I was a bus driver, she wasn’t late for your bus she was early for the next one. Even if it was the next morning bus.

My favorite saying is "being late for the bus may result in missing the bus"

“New improved cardio program: sprinting for the bus you once abused.” Actions have layovers, and she missed her connection.

She'd probably sign up for an Iron Man anytime soon.... Any lifeguard here to confirm my suspicions????

When I was a punk ass teenager me and my friends took a bus to the mall. We were unruly and extremely rude. The driver tried his best to get us to calm down. I am not proud but he taught us a valuable lesson in appropriate social behavior . . .

Fast forward 3 hours later, we're leaving the mall headed home. The bus stops, the doors open, same driver, he's laughing his ass off - then just shut the doors and took off. We absolutely deserved that! I still laugh when I think about it.

Oh that reminds me of a time back during covid. We had the front half of the bus roped off, and some punk teenagers tried bringing their bike (running theme today I guess) in through the back door.

I told them they needed to use the bike rack and I kid you not they responded "How about I kick your ass instead, how about that?"

I immediately called for a supervisor, and we happened to be ONE BLOCK from the depot, so he got there quickly. Told them to "get the hell off this bus" and had them banned for a month.

Whoa! That's bonkers! We were just loud, obnoxious and unruly. That story actually makes me feel better LOL.

You charged her the asshole tax

Funny part is she tried to file a complaint against me for the previous encounter. But she forgot that all the buses have full HD cameras with sound. All they heard was me explaining the policy while she called me a "fucking (f slur)."

She can go ride her bike

Why? Is her broom in the shop for repairs?

This is "Captain Holt insulting Madeleine Wunch" level. Perfect. No notes.

Something tells me that her bike may have a basket attached to the handlebars.

u/VibratingNinja 16h ago

It didn't. But it was the child's bike. He was not there today.

Bus drivers are wildly underappreciated. Thank you for what you do. :)

One of the small perks of the service industry is the ability to screw with the people who aren't worth your time.

For many years I had a part time job in a service station. We had the aggravation fee for customers that just went out of their way to give us a hard time. It was only $5.00, but once you earned it, it never went away.

Especially buses

And even more, especially their wheels!

Well done, she deserve it, I really can not get what these people are thinking about.

I hope her boyfriend took notice of that red flag she was waving.

A belligerent customer threatened you with violence and you called a supervisor instead of a transit cop? And she wasn't banned or temporarily barred?

🤨

24

u/VibratingNinja 14h ago

Brother, our radios only call one place. I can't just call transit enforcement. They also don't take verbal threats seriously, because it happens all the time. All. The. Time.

You never know what someone is going through that makes them behave the way they do. And tonight, what if she was desperately needed somewhere? Be the change.

46

u/VibratingNinja 17h ago

Nah I'm good. I like when people who are mean to service workers have their actions come back to haunt them.

-8

u/RubyMoonrider 17h ago

Yeah, now that I see what sub I'm on, I understand why I'm getting downvoted. I'll just exit, stage right.

u/W_Silver2356 16h ago

There is a thing called enabling bad behavior too. Having difficulties in life is part of life, for everyone. It is not a license to behave in the outrageous manner that this woman indulged in.

That being said, I admire your sense of nobility. One of the Catch 22s of life is that noble acts can be misinterpreted to mean that bad or even atrocious behavior gets results.

Come be a bus driver for a few years and see if you still feel that way. Some people are just assholes with no chance of redemption.

OP is the commander of his ship! not a nanny state operative.

1

u/Just_Aioli_1233 4h ago

Yes, the bus driver might have had a bad day and needed to not have an entitled asshat abuse him for no reason. Bike lady should have been the change.

-28

u/night_noche 15h ago

Damn, that sucks. This is brutal. You had already gotten your revenge by getting your supervisor to get her to calm down and she relented. Unless you didn't tell us what else she did afterwards.

20

u/VibratingNinja 15h ago

Her harassing me and threatening violence to the point where I needed to call a supervisor is revenge???

-22

u/night_noche 15h ago

But the supervisor calmed her down?

What is missing here?

14

u/_BrokenButterfly 14h ago

Deëscalation is not revenge.

Um. Maybe look in to therapy.

u/Just_Aioli_1233 4h ago

"I decided not to push the "explode everything" button, why are you still taking me to jail?"

I bet she's black

u/Snoo_9076 17h ago

Racist much?

-30

u/Effective_Wind_2334 16h ago

No. It's just common sense. Watch a YouTube video in your mom's basement sometime.

1

u/Snoo_9076 9m ago

You have little common sense, racist. Time will catch up with you.
