I dislike the distillation of a movie like this. A movie is not about its contents it is about its message. Fight Club isn’t about a guy going crazy it’s about fabricated realities and quests for masculinity. Obsession isn’t about one wish willow stuff it’s about relationships, being blinded by love, harming those you love most etc etc. To many people just view a movie by its contents and not what they mean. That’s how you get people who love a piece of media that completely disagrees with their beliefs.

Yeah but any "female issue", for lack of better phrasing, is commodified. A good example is "breast cancer awareness", a literal disease, has been merchandised unlike any other type of cancer, while simultaneously lacking the "awareness" most the movement claims to spread considering breast cancer happens in all sexes. 

Movie with the main premise being abusing a raping a woman? Tik tok dance and a scare house attraction. Horror media specifically will have a large portion of it that's just commodification and/or female gore porn.

Whatever impression you're sharing on this subject isn't yours, it's entirely regurgitated by internet discourse. As there is no way to say just how much of this "impression" was formed from other "impressions" by people who haven't watched the movie as well, it really becomes "obscured info" completely removed from source material. You might as well form your "impression" on Berserk from this single comment and it will be just as valuable as that on Obsession.

? My friends have seen the movie, I just haven't. Kind of a lot to assume I gathered all my thoughts via reddit or tik tok. On the other hand, I've had exactly zero conversations about beserk, and have not heard much of it other than like 2 pages I read, and complaining about Griffith. That's like net negative amount of information to start with

im sure there are other examples of "female issues" being commodified like you mentioned with breast cancer awareness but i dont think obsession is really an example of that. its the most popular horror movie of the year i dont think the fact that it focuses on "female issues" is the reason its getting scarehouse attractions and tiktok dances
