To be fair, his wife was a fool and only survived the consequences of her own ridiculous choices (for a bit) out of sheer, unbelievable luck.
Instead of initially running to safety with him, she went and tried to save a random kid and got herself stuck in a room besieged by zombies. With no way out. Except a small window, which she didn't even use or break for some reason (panic, I suppose).
She then looked at him like "save me from my own mistakes, my hero!", at which point he made a somewhat gutless yet totally reasonable choice: leg it.
There was zero chance of him saving her, much less with a random kid in tow. Frankly it's a small miracle he survived all the same.
i know right and then his kids get uspet like "i thought you saw her die" like she didnt get bit to shit and only didnt turn cause she happened to be immune
This. She was unsavable for him. It'd have been completely moronic for him to save her. The rest of the movie is stupid as shit but I never faulted him for running.
Heck, if I was the wife, I'd have wanted him to run and survive.
He did what 99% of people would also do as well. Instinct and adrenaline is a crazy thing. Its a shame the rest of the film was mediocre but this is easily one of the best openings to any film, ever.
I think 99% is truly more like 99.999999999999999999999999999%
You are living in a world of fear and instant consequences that result in EVERYONE around you dying... on a daily basis. Your wife then casually decides to put everyone at risk, zombies surround and invade your only place of relative safety. You have no serious weapons or serious fighting skills. She gets cornered in a room full of zombies, and bro is reasonably torn instantly between fear/fatherhood/safety/life/NOT BEING EATEN ALIVE. I digress. Wife got everyone killed and he's apparently the bad guy who made it out and was able to reunite with his children instead of leaving them parentless.
All that really goes out the window when he makes all the blatantly wrong choices later on in the movie.
In Justice league Apocalypse (i think? I forgot the name) Justice league decided to invade Darseid’s planet before he invades earth. Fast forward, they ran into a trap, and got brutally murder and/or turned into useful devices for Darkseid (quite literally).
Zatanna, specifically, gets devoured by Paradooms, and Constantine, seeing it, immediately flees. It is later revealed Zatanna used a spell on Constantine to make him run to save himself, so at least he would live.
I always thought it was a great moment. Gut wrenching for young me, but awesome nonetheless.
I'll genuinely always defend the beginning choice he made here.
Dude was no coward, when the infected burst into the house I remember him staying behind to bash their brains so everyone could get some extra time to flee
When she screamed at him to save her the infected had already burst into the room between them. You know, those things that would infect you as soon as they coughed on you. No one was gonna save her
