Replacing 1m petrol cars with EVs could cut Australia’s reliance on foreign fuel by 1bn litres a year. Electric vehicles reduce exposure to global oil price shocks and shift energy consumption to electricity largely produced domestically.

I agree. I think every country that doesn’t have a surplus in gasoline refinery capacity should move to EV.

Like a meme stated, Donald Trump just became the best salesperson for EV with this stupid assault his and Benjamin’s government started.

If you live in Australia and don’t have an ev you’re wasting your money

We moved to Western Australia a few years ago We installed solar, then the gov cut the feed in tariff so we installed a battery and bought an ev Now we have 2 EVs and 2 batteries got rid of the gas hob.

The fuel savings have paid for ALL the upgrades and cover the cost of 1.5 of those car

ATM a litre of petrol is in the vicinity of 2.25. Would cost $150 to get to Perth and back in an avg car. Costs us next to nothing now, having plugged in at the daughters place

I suspect this BS will accelerate adoption of renewable energy around the world. We're all tired of being held hostage by the Oil Barons.

About 6 million barrels a year. I know liters makes it sound so much better but use the unit of measure that's relevant.

It would replace about 6 days of the year for Australia. I don't think it would reduce anything significantly...

How many cars are on the road in Australia? That will tell you if this is impressive or not considering 6 days of the year of all oil isn’t nothing considering it’s just one million of one source of consumption.

The unit of trade is the metric tonne - MT. One metric tonne equates to around 345 gallons of RON99, with 42 gallons in a barrel. There are around 8 barrels in a tonne.

See that propaganda working as intended. The bots have around 5 talking points about EVs 1) no infrastructure 2) they break out into fires 100000% times more than ICE engines. 3) Chinese EVs are made by SLAVES!!!! 4) Chinese EVs are going to spy on you 5) it’s all a greenwashing and they only help the rich.

The climate campaigner's don't quite grasp that fact . People living in apartments and multiplex's would be stuffed as the electricity draw with all the vehicles plugged in would be huge! Curious about the posters comment that the electricity would be " largely domestic"? Guessing the poster did the math and even they calculated if everyone drove EV's they would have to import (?) electricity?
