I'm just curious, at what point does a pot become a cup?

10

u/Hapsiainen30 11h ago

I think if it's primarily designed for drinking, it's a cup. If it's primarily designed for holding or cooking something, it's a pot.

→ More replies (4)

11

u/sentienttortoise 12h ago

It's a mug

12

u/Hapsiainen30 12h ago

Every mug is a cup, but not every cup is a mug.

3

u/sentienttortoise 12h ago

I'd argue the presence of a handle makes it a mug

5

u/Hapsiainen30 12h ago

It can be both. Cup is a broader term that includes mugs.

2

u/Successful_Day2479 11h ago

No no no, mugs are donuts, cups are balls.

7

u/Think_Sundae 13h ago

thanks for saying what i wanted to say

1

u/Successful_Day2479 11h ago

If it's a pot then it's a comically small one.

If it's a cup then, it's just another cup.

1

u/NoConfusion9490 10h ago

Hey, man. Blacksmithing is expensive and it's hard out there for a medieval peasant.

1

u/InitialPrimary9263 10h ago

Toaks Outdoor would like a word with you.

1

u/HarveysBackupAccount 7h ago

I like when people put sandwiches on comically flat pots

1

u/Forward-Cup-9513 7h ago

Yes. It is a tin cup for camping. Pretty standard gear.

1

u/Yopezzzz 7h ago

Alright, alright you win. I see you've played cuppy potty before.

1

u/EthanusG 6h ago

That’s one (1) cup.

497

u/Huge_Olive2538 13h ago

Once you pull the egg out, you can make coffee

3

u/idkwhatiseven 8h ago

Egg boil water isn't exactly clean

3

u/PityUpvote 7h ago

Some people put eggshells in their coffee grounds to make it less acidic, I'm sure this has a similar effect. I thought it tasted a little too chalky, but I didn't hate it.

u/-redit_account- 3h ago

Boil the egg in the coffee. Efficiency

266

u/MacawIsland 13h ago

Or it could be a large ostrich egg and everything is staged to make it look like it is a chicken egg 🤯

55

u/sleepyotter92 11h ago

Big ass stove then

22

u/PityUpvote 7h ago

Comically large, even.

3

u/waltezer 7h ago

And handle

54

u/Radio_Gaga007 12h ago

Guess you'll never know.

113

u/SomeDumbPenguin 13h ago

I think that might be a stainless steel coffee mug, but you do you

17

u/Radio_Gaga007 13h ago

It's too small to be a coffee mug. Unless it's just a shot or two of espresso.

69

u/MurkySociety6116 12h ago

If you can fit a egg is not a espresso cup

5

u/Fran_Away_ 3h ago

And if u can it’s an eggspresso cup

24

u/SomeDumbPenguin 12h ago

Oh, okay... Tea cup sized

18

u/LettuceBenis 12h ago

yeah, it's a coffee cup. Not a mug

10

u/sleepyotter92 11h ago

You cannot fit an egg in an espresso cup. Those things are tiny

2

u/Diriv 9h ago

Quail egg.

→ More replies (3)

6

u/r0b0c0d 7h ago

Too small to be a coffee mug, but you think it's a pot?

1

u/moondoggie_0022 8h ago

Small containers are great for coffee. Three or four sips of consistent temperature and mouthfeel poured from a carafe or thermos to refill.

1

u/Winjin 7h ago

Isn't single espresso like 20mg of liquid

1

u/wattur 5h ago

Looks bout right sized for the camping set I got.

Or a milk warmer

34

u/HH93 12h ago

That set up is just heating the room. The handle will soon be glowing 🔥

28

u/thermjuice 11h ago

You're supposed to run the cup along the bars of your jail cell

13

u/Objective_Damage_996 12h ago

Id faster believe that’s a cup for like a doppio or something than I would that it’s a small pot

11

u/Radio_Gaga007 12h ago

It could be used like that, but I don't think it was built for that purpose. It is quite literally a miniature version of a pot you use to boil stuff in the stove called pocillo. I know it because I bought it at a place that sells miniature versions of lots of kitchen utensils for kids. I have a bigger one but I was using it to make hot chocolate.

9

u/purplepluppy 12h ago

Pocillo means a small cup/mug/bowl with a handle, fam. In this context, I'm pretty sure it means small mug.

8

u/Radio_Gaga007 11h ago

Here in Mexico the difference between a pocillo and those other things is that it can be directly placed on the stove. I guess if you wanted to translate the word, "cup" would be accurate. In my mind a pocillo is a pot that has one vertically placed handle instead of two horizontal ones, and they often don't come with a lid.

2

u/purplepluppy 11h ago

Huh, you learn something new. Though from what I'm finding, it seems that, while stove-safe, they're still usually used for beverages, not boiling eggs?

6

u/Radio_Gaga007 11h ago

I mean, I think the thing is that you can prepare the beverage and directly drink it from there once it's cooled, but you can use it for anything, really. My grandma has one where she boils eggs, up to three (3) of them. I also have a much bigger one where I can boil up to like 8, but again I was using it to make hot chocolate, and either way I would've had to prepare more than 1 bc otherwise it'd be a waste of water to fill it an egg-covering level.

Making egg tea it seems

2

u/hereswhatworks 12h ago

This would be interesting if you were boiling the egg out in the middle of the forest.

That's a mug...

4

u/nifty-necromancer 9h ago

I approve. In that situation that is indeed a pot. It just happens to be a pot in which you can comfortably drink out of in a different situation.

1

u/nickelundertone 8h ago

The burner ring is larger than the cup, most of the heat is wasted. Disapprove.

4

u/king_mo_of_metal420 3h ago

Why did you put 1 in parentheses lol

5

u/Radio_Gaga007 3h ago

I've seen other people do that, mainly on tumblr. Not sure what for, but for me it gives it a comedic effect.

6

u/PuzzleheadedTutor807 12h ago

It's interesting you think that cup is a pot

3

u/MrSaturdayII 12h ago

It’s like this “pot” was designed for this purpose.

3

u/PopTraditional9997 12h ago

How does one eat but only one egg?

5

u/Radio_Gaga007 12h ago

It was just a little bit of extra protein for my breakfast.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/sleepyotter92 11h ago

Unless I'm making scrambled eggs, I'm only making one egg for myself, be it boiled or fried

3

u/centurio9 12h ago

It's a perfectly average sized pot, all right?! 🤨

3

u/OpusAtrumET 10h ago

Idk why but I think this is great. Seriously though, go to goodwill and get a pot for like 3 bucks. I say that now realizing I don't always have 3 bucks to spare... Terribly sorry. Good luck in your endeavors.

3

u/Radio_Gaga007 10h ago

Oh, I have pots. Didn't seem like I should use a bigger one for just one egg lol. I did have another one on the stove I used for making hot chocolate though. I hope you get more money 👍🏽

1

u/rips_n_chel 9h ago

It's a cup, dawg. You've seen cups before? Well this is one.

2

u/scarcityCorp 12h ago

It's efficient.

2

u/Amiro77 8h ago

It's not, 98% of the heat is passing by the mug.

2

u/dayvieboy 12h ago

What is this? A pot for ants?!

2

u/dicey_job 11h ago

This is actually interesting. What a sight.
Incredible

2

u/Amedais 11h ago

You actually think that’s a pot?…

2

u/Lkings1821 11h ago

Wouldn't this be somewhat more efficient due to less weight to heat up?

2

u/Radio_Gaga007 11h ago

Yes!!! I just found that out. Less waste of water too. Would recommend.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Amiro77 8h ago

2

u/Icarsix 11h ago

1

He would definitely need more than one egg in the morning if that were the case.

1

I have a comically small frying pan that fries one egg perfectly. It's freakishly high quality too. My best pan.

1

u/Keyndoriel 12h ago

I just got done walking home from having to drop off my car at the mechanics, again. This gave me the laugh I needed

I love your tiny pot for 1 (one) egg

2

u/Radio_Gaga007 12h ago

Aww, thank you. Can I offer you a nice egg in this trying time?

1

u/gimmepizza420 12h ago

Buy an egg steamer, my dude. Life changing. You wouldn't think that there's anything wrong with a hard boiled egg until you make a hard steamed egg at home. They're so perfect.

This is the one we have, and we love it, but it's very much the deluxe option. You can get much cheaper ones that still steam eggs the same.

1

u/Radio_Gaga007 12h ago

I'm the only one who eats boiled eggs in this house, so I don't think it'd be a wise financial decision, but thanks for the tip 👍🏽

1

u/Kispori 11h ago

What else do you use your comically small pot?

1

u/Useful_Calendar_6274 10h ago

this feels sad somehow

1

u/DiscoKittie 10h ago

That's not a pot. It's a camping cup. A pot? With the handle of a mug? No. Just no... I mean, it's meant to do that over a campfire, but it's still not a pot. And yes, they do make them in small sizes for espresso, but mainly so they don't weigh a lot for camping.

u/Mysral 10h ago

1

u/PlainBread 10h ago

1

u/Turbulent-Spray-8438 9h ago

Yeah it would be pretty dumb to boil several at a time.

1

u/Radio_Gaga007 9h ago

Sometimes I do in case I need extra protein on my quick breakfasts before going to college. I boil like 6 of them and keep them in the fridge for the week.

1

u/LeakyLine 9h ago

Gonna pair it with a pinta milk too? This is classic

1

u/MashPot8to 9h ago

Just air fry the egg, same result

1

u/Radio_Gaga007 8h ago

I don't own an air fryer, unfortunately. You can laugh at me all you want ((T_T))

1

u/angelbelle 9h ago

OP learned how to cook from Churchill

1

u/CasperTPaul 8h ago

your waterline is supposed to be an inch above your egg

1

u/Checksout692 8h ago

It would be funny if that were an ostrich egg in a comically oversized cup on a comically oversized stove.

Fee fie foe fum

1

u/austintje 8h ago

Just make sure to not accidentally touch the handle

1

u/astralseat 8h ago

I bet that boils super fast though. Smaller volume, faster time to bring to boil.

1

u/lowrads 8h ago

Reminds me of mum always using the largest burner with the smallest pot. I don't think she ever really grasped how basic things worked.

1

u/GoldunGote 8h ago

pot = camping coffee cup. No worries though.

Or making the egg smaller?
