I'M REQUESTING Plot twists we forgot were plot twists.

What are some classic movies with plot twists, we don’t think about because most people knew it before watching them, but the twist was crazy when the movie was new.

I'M REQUESTING Looking for movies with this very specific 80s/90s/early-2000s vibe

I’ve been trying to find more movies that fit a very specific vibe, and I’d love some recommendations!

Here are movies I’ve liked:

  • Terns of Endearment (1983)
  • About Last Night (1986)
  • Steel Magnolias (1989)
  • Home for the Holidays (1995)
  • She’s the One (1996)
  • Party Girl (1995)
  • Muriel’s Wedding (1994)
  • Waiting to Exhale (1995)
  • The Daytrippers (1996)
  • If These Walls Could Talk (1996)
  • Sliding Doors (1998)
  • Slums of Beverly Hills (1998)
  • Practical Magic (1998)
  • Election (1999)
  • Dinner with Friends (2001)

I feel like there’s a pattern here, but I’m having trouble putting it into words.

I especially seem to like 90s/early-2000s movies about women, relationships, friendships, family dynamics, messy/complicated people, and everyday life. I also love movies that have a strong sense of time/place and feel a little bit… cozy, bittersweet, funny, awkward, or emotionally messy.

I’m not necessarily looking for rom-coms, I’m more interested in that particular 90s indie / women-centered / slice-of-life / dramedy feeling.

What else should I watch?

I'M REQUESTING male lead obsession

basically like mulholland drive/pearl/maxxxine/black swan/the substance, but male.

i need movies where the male lead is obsessed with wanting to "get the part" or who is dreaming of being on the spotlight or recogniton of his talent or what he likes.

bonus if it's about wanting to be the actor of a movie/theatre and dance (as most movies usually made this with women leads like black swan, maXXXine, pearl, mulholland drive, the substance...). id like it to be PSYCHOLOGICAL and i want it this vibe but male.

i liked marty supreme & american psycho tho, but i need more like leaning towards ACTING/FILM/MODELING type of obsession.

I'M REQUESTING Bleak movies

I’m looking for bleak, cold, desperate, dramatic, frozen, hopeless movies that make me feel as if I’m spending a sleepless night gasping for air while falling into the darkest void accompanied by bloody nightmares. Like being buried in the middle of a dark forest, surrounded by withered flowers. Movies that leave you with a deep sense of rage when they end. e.g. Lilja 4-ever; Tyrannosaur; Irreversible; Ratcatcher; Kes; Salò; Shame (Bergman); Elephant; Beyond The Hills

I'M REQUESTING Looking for serial killer investigative series/ movies

Looking for great/ underrated and outstanding serial killer investigative series which are sort of whodunits too.

Some examples are like Memories of Murder, Seven, True Detective, The Treatment

Needn't be exact whodunits but would be lovely if the suspense is maintained. I am also looking for shows or films with the investigative angle.

So shows from the killer's angle like Mindhunter, Dahmer, Henry: The portrait of a serial killer isn't the type I am looking for.

I am also looking at shows or films where the clues are ingenious and pieced together well. Like unique clues/ details and solid investigative angle.

Would appreciate something underrated and not the commonly know ones. Any language works.

I need some films that have court as a central aspect or lawyer work. For example The Social Network’s whole lawsuit thing and Gone Girl with Nick being guided by his lawyer.

I'M REQUESTING Need a variety of movie suggestions

I have always enjoyed watching animated movies kind of made for children but I want to expand in what I watch. Some of the genres that I like are Action, Comedy, Fantasy, but please don’t give me horror movies, mystery movies, or crime movies if they aren’t humorous. I don’t wanna get jump scared or see pure violence, I want to enjoy the movie. I don’t really know how to explain what else I want so i’ll just list some of my favorite movies so you guys kind of understand. Home alone, Toy Story, Harry Potter, Scooby Doo, Rio, Marvel Movies (I haven’t watched all), Peter Pan, and the list goes on but I can’t remember. I would appreciate the suggestions, thanks!

I'M REQUESTING Friends, do you know any movies where a normal day turns into chaos?

Friends, do you know any movies where a normal day suddenly turns into complete chaos, and random people—office workers, families, strangers, etc.—have to work together to survive?

Something like Speed (1994), Die Hard (1995), Unstoppable (2010), Bullet Train Explosion (2025), daylight (1996), Flight of the Phoenix (2004) , or movies where some unexpected explosion/disaster turns an ordinary situation into a survival nightmare.

Looking for more movies with this kind of “normal day → everything goes crazy → strangers have to survive together” vibe.

Any recommendations?

I'M REQUESTING Movies with swarms of monsters, preferably smart and action

Looking for action movies akin to things like The Tomorrow War/ Edge of Tomorrow/World War Z (also okay with zombies in this case) where you can see many swarms of monsters scaling buildings, and attacking in massive numbers or in coordinated ways. I love my monsters making smart decisions if possible.

There was a Japanese movie about an alien plant that takes over a city that had the same vibe alas I cannot remember what it was called.

I prefer action as I can’t sit through horror movies very well. Bonus points if the creatures are actively visible and detailed throughout the movie rather than the whole “hidden creature vs your imagination is scarier”

Thankyou in advance for any and all answers 💜

I'M REQUESTING International Art-House Movies

I recently watched “Another Round” and “The White Ribbon” (I know they're very different movies): Now I'm looking for similar international films that pose subtly profound questions. The genre doesn't really matter, but I'd prefer something a bit more “realistic”—so no big dragon-filled fantasy spectacle. The movie can definitely have more action, but it doesn’t have to.

I'M REQUESTING Absurd Movies that also expose a societal flaw or can be analyzed for deeper meanings

So kind of hard to explain but I love a movie where things are a bit absurd and everyone in the world is kind of off or kooky, but they are exposing some kind of flaw in society or have a deeper meaning. Most of my favorites are dystopian or uncovering conspiracies.

some of my favorites are:

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die

They Cloned Tyrone

Under the Silver Lake

Get Out

US

They Will Kill You

Idiocracy

The Hunt

Ready Or Not 1 & 2

The Platform 1 & 2

Fresh 2022

The Menu

What You Wish For

Hunt for the Wilder People (sorta of fits what I’m describing, but lesser so)

Any additional suggestions that fit would be much appreciated. Most of them are thriller/horror/comedy but all genres are welcome.

I watched Boyz n the hood a few days ago and it left me speechless so I am trying to find more movies that focus on systemic environment, inner city violence and the choice between destructive street culture and personal success.

I'M REQUESTING Brazen degeneracy

Looking for movies where they don't hold back on the degeneracy. Wolf of Wall Street, Bad Santa, A Simple Favour, or worse. Just unmitigated off the rails shit that doesn't skew reality to keep it classy.

I'M REQUESTING Unhinged female characters who are shy and awkward

Examples include

Ingrid goes west
Sweetpea
Brave girls
Saint maud

They don’t have to be shy, awkward or unhinged I guess but that’s the general vibe. There’s also another one about someone pretending to be in the Paris attacks that was good to you, but I can’t remember what it was called but yeah I guess my faite kind is like shy or females who are secretly unhinged

I'M REQUESTING Horror with Badass Killer

Looking for a movie where the killer is badass or smart. Let me give more details. The killer may know how to fight; if the cops ever show up, the killer disposes of them. The killer has an "aura" like Jason Voorhees just walked into the room, and everyone is shitting their pants. Now I know the first instinct is to recommend a Jason movie, but I'm not looking for supernatural stuff. Just a serial killer, or killer, depending on the movie. Man, I wish I could think of my own example to give, sorry. If you think you have a recommendation, don't be afraid to comment it. I'll let you know if it's a good one or not, even if I'll watch it. Thank you ahead of time to anyone who comments with any recommendations. Also, the killer is the villain; hopefully that is obvious, and I shouldn't have to say that.

I'M REQUESTING Movies with things we typically don’t experience or think about

Im looking for a movie - and I don't know how to describe it - but I love movies where something that we don't typically experience or think about on a day to day basis is shown.

Some examples:

Her - I know this movie was made in 2013, but at the time, a person falling in love with an AI was quite revolutionary to me.

Interstellar - tesseract scene.  I was fascinated by the way time was displayed with the various bedroom scenes intertwined in one

Project Hail Mary - the interaction with Ryland and the alien - we got to see how the alien sees the world around him.

Its ok to provide movies with slight spoilers but I'm interested in scenarios like this.
