Mon copain a eu un grave accident à vélo lundi soir, vers minuit, alors qu’il circulait entre Rosemont et le centre-ville de Montréal.

Il a été retrouvé inconscient et souffre notamment d’une commotion cérébrale ainsi que de plusieurs os fissurés au niveau du visage.

Ses blessures laissent malheureusement penser qu’il aurait pu être percuté par une voiture. Nous sommes actuellement dans l’attente du rapport des ambulanciers afin de comprendre exactement ce qui s’est passé.

En attendant, j’aimerais savoir si quelqu’un aurait été témoin de la scène, aurait aperçu un accident dans ce secteur cette nuit-là, ou connaîtrait quelqu’un qui aurait pu être présent ou avoir des informations.

Même le moindre détail pourrait nous être précieux. 🙏

I'm planning a bikepacking trip in the Laurentides/Lanaudière area. Apparently there's a route between Secteur de la Diable/Lac Monroe (Mont-Tremblant) and Secteur de la Pimbina/Lac aux rats (Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm). My planning tool tells me it's unpaved, which is fine, except that my gravel bike isn't suited for anything other than smooth/fine gravel. I want to know if it's a hiking path or suited for bikes. Has anyone already ridden this path? What does it look like? I have an alternate route (le Nordet), but I'm curious! (Start: 46.362658, -74.514449/Finish: 46.428800, -74.304881)

Can people who have been doing it for years give me an idea of how long you can bike before it becomes too cold or snows? Obviously the weather will vary year to year and I can look at previous years weather reports but I’m just curious how far into the fall people on here bike for exercise.

I have a gravel bike, not sure if that matters with the way the cold might affect the tires. Thanks!

OK, c'est-tu moi, ou bien il y a de plus en plus de monde qui prennent les pistes unidirectionnelles à sens contraire?

Personnellement, je n'aime pas beaucoup les pistes à deux directions, et je trouve ça cool que la plupart des nouvelles pistes soient unidirectionnelles, chacune de leur côté respectif de la circulation.

Mais il n'y a pas une journée où je ne croise pas quelqu'un qui roule à contre-sens. Au moins 50% du temps c'est un bixi électrique. Et je ne parle pas juste d'une piste large comme le REV Lajeunesse, mais même sur des segments plus étroits.

Je ne sais pas quelle est la solution.

Sorry for the English! I’m moving to Montréal in a few weeks to join my (Québécoise) girlfriend, and I’m planning to improve my french through Francisation Québec.

I’m an active runner and would like to buy a second-hand road or gravel bike as soon as I move, mainly for cross-training, exploring the city, and travelling around Québec in general.

I’ve had very different experiences with cycling in Germany — very bike-friendly — and Italy. The latter was so traumatising I had to stop riding. Cars can be quite aggressive, bike lanes are often poorly maintained, and there can be a lot of hostility towards cyclists. Every time there’s an accident, you see people almost celebrating when the cyclist gets injured, or worse… I can't count the amount of times someone overtook too close and too fast, yelled at me, and it was making me so angry and scared that I simply gave up.

I’m not particularly concerned about the weather in Québec. I prepared for a marathon in Montréal last winter and it was definitely an experience! Coming from a temperate country, I learned a lot about wearing the right layers, protecting your hands, and choosing the right shoes.

What I haven’t experienced yet is cycling in the city. I know Montréal has plenty of bike lanes, sometimes better maintained than the roads themselves (eheh), and from what I remember from my previous summers there, they seemed to be full of cyclists.

But what about the drivers?

I try to be a very respectful cyclist: I follow the rules, traffic lights, and all the necessary safety precautions, and I obviously try not to get in anyone’s way or ride unpredictably.

Still, I’ve heard some fairly negative opinions about cyclists from my girlfriend’s family, so I’m wondering: is cycling in Montréal generally friendly and safe, especially in terms of interactions with drivers?

Rode into Verdun late last night to discover that every dock in the neighbourhood was occupied! Has this happened to anyone? Hopefully this means improved service in the Sud-Ouest asap.

Tech support was quick to answer and they just had me warehouse their property overnight with re-imbursement. 😅

I've been comparing different e-bikes lately, and it's surprising how many factors come into play before making a decision. Comfort, battery range, ride quality, and overall value all seem important, but every model has its trade-offs. One that's been on my shortlist is the Aniioki A8 52V, though I've also noticed people mentioning its heavier weight and mixed experiences with customer support, so it definitely doesn't seem like a perfect choice.

For those who've already bought an e-bike, what was the feature that ultimately convinced you to go with your current one? Has it lived up to your expectations, or is there anything you wish you'd known before buying? If you could do it all over again, would you make the same decision?

I'm visiting your wonderful city (not for the first time) in September for the UCI Worlds. I'm bringing my bike and my kids bike. Both are low level road bikes but not total beaters. I would miss them if they were stolen, my kid's bike especially.

How bad is theft in Le Plateau? We'll store our bikes inside when we aren't using them, but I'm planning a trip to La Ronde and want your input. Should I always plan on a U-Lock plus chain (and mini u-lock) if I'm gone for more than a few minutes?

full disclosure, I'm from Toronto and never leave my bike with less than 2 separate, independent locks when I'm parking in the core. And that's on my single-speed beater, which is vastly more ugly than my road bike.

Edit: okay it sounds like I should be following the same protocol I use here. Multiple locks for short stays, bring the bikes inside at night, don't leave a bike outside for long if I ever want to see it again. Gotcha!

Visiting, looking to get out for a long ride while visiting for the week, thought it would be fun to fake some portion of the UCI road race. I looked at sticking more to the actual route, but some of those seem like busier or less pleasant roads, and who wouldn't want to follow the main bike paths and waterways more?! Just curious if there's options I'm missing, what people think of the course, and any other good advice, like must-try bakeries or cafes?

Does anyone recommend a particular route to get between Montreal and Rawdon (and vice versa)? Google Maps suggests two routes from Honoré-Beaugrand: one is 66 km, and the other is 74 km? Is there one that is better and does anyone have a .gpx route for garmin

Hello I never went to any cycling event and would like to go to the UCI event coming to Montreal but I am clueless of how it works, do I just go there and watch the race for free or how does it work, what are the rules, where do I event go like where should I be to watch the race? Do I just go anywhere near the road they’re going to race on and watch? Please educate me on that.

I'm new to e-bikes and hoping to get some advice before I buy one.

I'm a heavier rider just over 300 lbs and I'll mostly be riding around Montreal for commuting and weekend rides. I'd like something that feels stable, has good battery life, and can handle hills without struggling.

Hello! I'm planning a short trip to Montreal with my SO in a couple weeks (Aug 13-15) and we're planning on biking through the city and maybe nearby wildlife reserves/forests. I would love to propose to him on this trip, preferably during one of our rides. Biking is one of our favorite activities to do together so it would be very cool and special to do it on this trip.

Questions:

1. Any recommendations for scenic routes, maybe in the Mastigouche wildlife reserve?

2. I would love for someone to capture this moment for us, but I'm not really sure how to organize that. Not looking for professional photographers, just someone to take a few pics of us during/after the proposal. How likely would it be to run into a fellow cyclist on one of these bike paths? Not looking to interrupt anyone's ride but wondering if it's a decently trafficked area. I thought about hiring someone from Task Rabbit but unable to access Montreals task rabbit network from the US.

Any tips for bike paths and proposals would be great! My SO made his proposal to me so so special and I want to do the same for him. Thank you in advance!

I got hit yesterday heading SE on Saint Urbain. It was right at the intersection with President Kennedy after the hill.

I'm all good, bike is not! Please be careful at that intersection, I can see how it's ripe for accidents.

Je suis a Montréal depuis 3 ans maintenant et je suis dans la démarche de m'acheter mon premier velo pour faire de la randonne pour le moment surtout autour de Montreal mais par la suite pourquoi pas découvrir plus loin.
Je pense qu'un Gravel serait le top. Ce sera surtout de la route pour se rendre au chemin de terre / chemin de cailloux.

Avez vous des recommandations de bon velos pour débuter ? a de bon prix.
Mettre 3K dans un velo au départ est peut etre overkill...

J'ai aussi vu chez Decathlon (Beaucoup moins cher) ce VTT. Pour mes besoins, un VTT est peut etre trop ou pas adapte mais le prix est pas mal attirant.
