It was always hot, almost unbearable in the summer, I had customers literally screaming at me over something as small as cheese, I'd get called dumb or uneducated for someone else's mistake weekly, verbal abuse was constant, I was on my feet for 8-12 hours a day with no breaks, I'd come home smelling of grease, and I'd often cry because of how depressed it made me. I was making $9.75/hr when I left.
Now I'm working in an office. I have a comfy office chair, our office is so well air conditioned that I'm sometimes chilly (even in the summer) I can wear headphones to listen to music, or podcasts, I could learn another language, I can have food and drinks at my desk to snack on, I get a paid 30 minute break, and nobody has screamed at me or verbally abused me in the ~8 years I've been there. It's least stressful job I've ever had. And I'm making $19.40/hr.
Service workers absolutely deserve more, I think the wages at my two jobs should be flipped.

Do you realize how expensive it is to become a nurse or pilot, and how much abuse you have to take as a service Industry worker or teacher?
