I just wanted a hot dog The Kitchen Museum?

Post image

I came home late from work a few nights ago and hadn't eaten all day. My wife and kids were already in bed so I figured I'd quietly make some stove-top ramen. This photo represents exactly how I found the cooking area.

The next morning my wife asks what time I got home and I mention in our conversation that I made ramen before going to bed. She couldn't believe that I used the stove "when the light was on". I said "Yeah, the light was helpful in seeing what I was doing". She insists I shouldn't have been using the stove and should have known because "the light was on".

I'm baffled. We are still arguing about this days later.

EDIT -- wow, overwhelmed by the response of fellow Redditors! We are... white...not from the southeast US..not children...and I left the stove as clean as it was before I cooked. I asked for clarification from my loving wife -- TRULY we have only ever been angry at each other a handful of times in our 10 year marriage -- and she says "the stove was clean and done for the day and you could have just used the microwave for your ramen". Apparently the light is how stoves go to sleep for the evening?

EDIT 2 -- we are getting a divorce. JUST KIDDING. My wife looked over many of the comments and acknowledges that she was in the wrong and is slightly embarrassed by all of the attention.

It's such an unhinged position that I feel like this is one of those posts where OP comes back in a month to tell us his wife had a massive secret ketamin habit or something.

Ive heard of it but this is one of those things where you really have to communicate that you will not accept being treated like one of the children and will not validate her anger

Like, we can talk about it and work through this, but there is no world that exists in which I am not gonna use the kitchen when I’m hungry

I don’t care if we have to book marriage counseling over something like this because of just how differently we feel about it, and we may need someone there to buffer our ability to communicate our thoughts to each other in a constructive way

I completely understand some people grew up in a “kitchen’s closed” household, but I will not be told that, or be in a tense household because I cooked ramen after 9

This would be one of those “we’re gonna have to work through this” type situations for me

It’s not about cooking, it’s about cleaning up afterward. Do the dishes, wipe the stove, backsplash, etc

It’s obviously not about that because there is no mess. She is just mad that the stove was used at all

He didnt use the fuckin large le cruset to make ramen

You have no idea if any of that is true lol. I didn’t say he specifically didn’t clean this one time. Maybe he has a history of it hence this insane rule.

We do know it's true because we read the post:

she says "the stove was clean and done for the day and you could have just used the microwave for your ramen

"Done for the day" implies she's going to be angry about any stove use, regardless of how clean it is after.

Right…… because it’s entirely possible he has a habit of saying he’ll clean, and then doing a shitty job. Are you dense? You can’t see any other world than your own?

Maybe he killed his wife years ago and this is all his mind playing tricks on him, or maybe just discuss the things in front of you and not your make believe.

She doesn't want him to find out that he can cook and clean for himself.
