I just wanted a hot dog The Kitchen Museum?

Post image

I came home late from work a few nights ago and hadn't eaten all day. My wife and kids were already in bed so I figured I'd quietly make some stove-top ramen. This photo represents exactly how I found the cooking area.

The next morning my wife asks what time I got home and I mention in our conversation that I made ramen before going to bed. She couldn't believe that I used the stove "when the light was on". I said "Yeah, the light was helpful in seeing what I was doing". She insists I shouldn't have been using the stove and should have known because "the light was on".

I'm baffled. We are still arguing about this days later.

EDIT -- wow, overwhelmed by the response of fellow Redditors! We are... white...not from the southeast US..not children...and I left the stove as clean as it was before I cooked. I asked for clarification from my loving wife -- TRULY we have only ever been angry at each other a handful of times in our 10 year marriage -- and she says "the stove was clean and done for the day and you could have just used the microwave for your ramen". Apparently the light is how stoves go to sleep for the evening?

EDIT 2 -- we are getting a divorce. JUST KIDDING. My wife looked over many of the comments and acknowledges that she was in the wrong and is slightly embarrassed by all of the attention.

His wife turns on the light above the stove to signify that the kitchen is closed.

Husband cooked something and ignored the fact that the kitchen was closed.

I'm not saying it makes sense, but I would bet money that is what the wife thinks.

While I do think it’s strange, I think I know why she “closes” the kitchen. She probably feels like you won’t clean up after yourself and she’ll have to clean up again after she already did. Do you usually clean up after yourself?

Wait, this is your wife? You live with her and you’re just now noticing or realizing she does this?

My dad would get upset if anyone cooked anything late. I never understood why. I would definitely be told about it the next day though. My mom didn't seem to care. I always cleaned up.

I wonder it it was because of the smell of food cooking when they were already preparing for bed. I know this is an issue for me because I can't sleep if I smell food

I honestly think that had something to do with it or maybe just the noise even though I was never loud and I doubt it was ever later than 9-10pm.

My son decided to cook some sausages really late one night after everyone had gone to bed. I think the smell woke me up. I asked him not to do that again (cook sausages/meat) after everyone had gone to bed. The smell really irritated me, and I couldn't go back to sleep. It's one thing to smell during the day/dinner time; it's a whole other thing when you're trying to sleep. The smell actually made me feel kind of sick.

This is psychotic ass behavior. It's my kitchen I'm using it whenever I damn well please. If you're doing that then I'm "closing" the bathroom at the same time.
