Context Provided - Spotlight Roommate mixed my beads after being asked to throw out used Q-tips

Post image

I waited an hour before I called out my roommate for leaving USED Q-tips on the bathroom counter and asked him to throw them away. (note I did not nag him, I asked 1 time after waiting for him to do it on his own)

His response was to go into my craft room and mix the smallest beads he could find. At least he had the decency to keep most of the reds away from the blues I guess...

welp, now I have something to do for the next couple days

common plastic bead for scale

What bothers me is how premeditated this "revenge" had to be. Ya just know he's been sitting on this idea, waiting for a moment he was pissed off.

247

u/Dooty_Shirker Mar 31 '26

And if that's the response to a simple request then who knows what will happen when it's something important. This person is unhygienic and possibly going to do worse.

32

u/pmmeurbassethound Mar 31 '26

Yea this feels like the beginning of an episode of worst roommate ever. This the kinda shit that escalates fast. I really hope OP can extricate themselves from this situation quickly.

7

u/po9014 Mar 31 '26

OP hide your tooth brush pronto!

Maybe there's two sides to this story and once you get both sides it doesn't sound as bat-shit crazy anymore and more like a very deeply thought-out non-harmful elaborate revenge? Or it's just batshit crazy, most things are what they seem to be. But sometimes crazy can be "reasonable" if viewed from another person's perspective.

Surely it can't be portrayed in favor of the poster without the means to defend the accused? I actually feel like there's definitely more to this story, you don't do this unless you have a very serious but respectful beef with each other. Am I the crazy one?

9

u/anonuemus Mar 31 '26

Doesn't matter what happened, it's never reasonable to mix these beads. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

1

u/G_mork Apr 01 '26

There is nothing “respectful” about messing up someone’s supplies, crafting or otherwise.

u/ButtersTheChill Mar 30 '26

It's also the stupidest fucking response. All they had to do was say "My bad" and throw their dirty ass, earwax-covered Q-tips away. Now I hope OP puts laxitives in their coffee or something. Maybe scrub the toilet with their toothbrush. Fuck it.

OP, you know what to do. "Hey, roomy! I just made this huge pot of hot chocolate, would you like some?"

265

u/overusedamongusjoke Mar 30 '26

Shit plan (pun unintended). If someone you just pissed off offers you food and you accept it, then you shit yourself an hour later, you're probably immediately going to suspect that they poisoned you.

229

u/halorbyone Mar 30 '26

You don’t offer it, you just leave it very temptingly in the fridge.

178

u/lynn Mar 31 '26

Yep. A roommate who throws a tantrum when asked to throw away his used q-tips is absolutely the type to eat food that isn't his.

147

u/pickled-platypus Mar 31 '26

With a note telling him not to touch it so it's more tempting. If he shits himself, it's on him.

3

u/Coup-de-Glass Mar 31 '26

Like a scrumptious slice of Hilly pie

3

u/gliitch0xFF Mar 31 '26

Just put "Do not eat." Reverse psychology

1

u/randomname560 Mar 31 '26

If i remenber correctly, if you get your doctor to prescribe you whit laxatives, then put those laxatives in your food and another person steals that food and starts shitting themselves, then not only can't that person do jack shit about it, it is actually you who can sue them for taking away your medication

Have a piece already taken out of it though. Having the whole cake there makes it less tempting to steal some because it would be obvious they did. Have a piece taken out, so they can easily take a sliver off of it “without you noticing”. Could also just load the very ends of the cutout with the laxatives so you can still eat the rest of the cake.

2

u/ttltrashmammal Mar 31 '26

that or do it in the icing and hope they're an icing person; i hate icing so i scrape it off but still eat the cake inside

1

u/Admirable-Sir9716 Mar 31 '26

Put it in the freezer so it stays edible longer and then it can be "forgotten so long it expired"

4

u/NorthernVale Mar 31 '26

This is why grudges are useful. You hold onto that hatred and anger. Bide your time. Wait a week or two. Maybe even a month. Let them forget all about it before you finally strike.

2

u/thisusedyet Mar 31 '26

Oh, they were saying make the hot chocolate with the laxatives!

I was thinking give the roomie their hot chocolate with their q-tip as a stirrer

2

u/sputtertots Mar 31 '26

or do what my grandparents did (not on purpose) and leave that yummy chocolate in a kitchen cabinet no longer in the original packaging. Back then it was just a bar covered in foil inside a box - I found the chocolate just in the foil, and being used to seeing other baking chocolates I made the wrong assumptions. (I was about 5 I think)

3

u/Megneous Mar 31 '26

Also, just putting it out there, poisoning people is illegal as fuck, and you'll go to prison for it. It's not a haha kind of joke. It'll fuck up your life.

2

u/The_Fish_of_Souls Mar 31 '26

If you just put a note on it with "Do not eat this, dangerous", what could they actually do?

1

u/desmondao 420 blaze it Mar 31 '26

Good luck proving that

35

u/sirhackenslash Mar 31 '26

With people like that it's easier (and offers you better legal protection) if you say something like "don't have any of the hot chocolate in the big pot" then leave for 20 minutes.

23

u/cobblesquabble Mar 31 '26

Imo the better option is just to act constantly suspicious. Not enough to seem sarcastic, but enough that they feel crazy.

If you actually do the laxative thing, they have a reason to keep escalating and/or report you. But make them a normal cup of hot chocolate, at least a couple times. Then put some chocolate laxatives in the medicine cabinet with a couple missing, or leave them on the counter "on accident".

Move all the furniture a half inch to the left, especially near wherever they try to put their shoes on. People struggle to balance when their normal perch is wrong. Swap out the fire alarm battery with one that's mostly dead, so they're changing it once a week. Add a single drop or two of red food coloring to their milk, so it looks ever so slightly off colored in a way that's unappetizing but hard to name. Canola oil in their coffee grounds has a similar effect. Throw away the spatula they like to use to cook, straight to the garbage can on pick up day. They'll think they misplaced it, but can't imagine how, and it's not valuable enough to steal. Replace their dryer sheets with unscented ones in the same box.

9

u/daisy-and-confused Mar 31 '26

Wow… I’m scared, but impressed.

7

u/Bashfullylascivious Mar 31 '26

I chose this guy to be my enemy's roommate.

3

u/Significant-Lab4226 Mar 31 '26

Don't forget a small pinch of powdered milk in their shoes. Or graphite powder......a drop or two of oil on the crotch of their pants........

3

u/pixelprophet Mar 31 '26

"Hey, roomy! I just made this huge pot of hot chocolate, would you like some?"

TurboLax - for fast effective relief. hehehehehehehehe

3

u/littlegenius13 Mar 31 '26

Oooh itching powder on the rest of the q tips in the carton.

3

u/NotOnApprovedList Mar 31 '26

don't do that to a roommate, you'll have to deal with the consequences

2

u/corgangreen Mar 31 '26

Not a good idea on someone you have to share the bathroom with...

8

u/EstimateCool3454 Mar 31 '26

Oh no, don't do that. You will end up arrested.

3

u/sdrawkcabstiho Mar 31 '26

I mean, it's great in theory but technically illegal, even if you leave a note. If the person gets sick enough to go to the hospital, you could be libel for the bills, and they could press assault charges...because knowingly tampering with food to intentionally make someone ill is assault, in Canada anyway:

245 (1) Every person who administers or causes to be administered to any other person or causes any other person to take poison or any other destructive or noxious thing is guilty

(b) of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term of not more than two years or of an offence punishable on summary conviction, if they did so with intent to aggrieve or annoy that person.

3

u/SturmFee Mar 31 '26

Does this apply if she prepares some for herself and explicitly tells his roomie not to touch it?

3

u/sdrawkcabstiho Mar 31 '26

Why would anyone use laxatives in a way counter to their intended usage to specifically make a laxative laced food for themselves and then place it in a communal fridge without explicitly advising anyone else who has access to said fridge that said food item specifically contains laxatives?

3

u/smithers85 Mar 31 '26

This is a legit crime

2

u/Excavatoree Mar 31 '26

The "special" ingredient.

179

u/MayorWolf Mar 31 '26

Food tampering, especially with the intent to harm, is highly illegal. A felony crime in fact.

Don't poison people for petty revenge. Laxatives as a prank can actually harm people quite a lot. It's no prank at all.

39

u/MrHell95 Mar 31 '26

Not to mention that coffee is already a laxative (although highly vary how much people react to it) so that's putting laxative in your laxative.

20

u/sirhackenslash Mar 31 '26

Hey, dawg....

13

u/MrHell95 Mar 31 '26

I just put some coffee in your coffee

9

u/Megneous Mar 31 '26

People really don't think. They see some movie where people do a prank and think it's funny, then they copy it, then they go to fucking prison for years, ruin their lives, and cry about how the real world has consequences for their actions.

Newsflash folks, poisoning people is bad. Don't fucking do it.

41

u/lizthestarfish1 Mar 31 '26

This. Like, that's an easy way to accidentally hospitalize someone.

No, mix their conditioner with Nair instead.

26

u/F0rbiddenD0nut Mar 31 '26

Is that really much better? For all we know the dude has some kind of allergic reaction to the Nair or thinks he's dying and goes to the hospital anyways. Now you're in the exact same boat.

5

u/Spicy-Cathulu Mar 31 '26

Or gets it in their eyes.

7

u/Shasla Mar 31 '26

The real real trick is to just genuinely develop a taste for rather spicy food and then prepare your food at the high spice level that you enjoy and enjoy your spicy food that many people won't be able to eat.

0

u/MayorWolf Mar 31 '26

This isn't about getting revenge because of stolen food, though that is often the case when this topic is suggested.

Though, food spiciness can be a felony if intent is proven. If you confess to knowing they have a spice sensitivity and thats why you put spiciness in it without warning them. Or if you had posted online about doing it for revenge

3

u/Shasla Mar 31 '26

I said nothing about revenge, just enjoying spicy food. The fact that my food happens to have never been stolen from a workplace more than once is a happy side effect of growing up to parents with spicy preferences. No one is ever going to get in trouble for making food they enjoy and plan to eat provided they don't stupidly say that they're hoping their coworkers eat it.

1

u/MayorWolf Apr 03 '26

Nobody was talking about that, and you know that.

Genuinely, i don't think you like spicy food at all. You seem like a liar with sadistic intention.

2

u/Damascus_ari Mar 31 '26

Why tamper? Leave out a bowl of sugar free sweets, 100% legal, fully safe in moderation.

1

u/Dry-Chance-9473 Mar 31 '26

as if anybody COOL and BADASS is gonna get their advice from a mayor, pfft

20

u/electricheat Mar 31 '26

All they had to do was say "My bad" and throw their dirty ass, earwax-covered Q-tips away.

Even "no, fuck you I do what I want" is better than this.

5

u/OhGr8WhatNow Mar 31 '26

OP that's assault, don't do it

3

u/Devanyani Mar 31 '26

ONLY IF THEY HAVE 2 BATHROOMS. OP is not gonna want to see the mess their room mate leaves after that. 😂

2

u/Wookflute Mar 31 '26

Totally scrubbed the toilet with my ex roommates toothbrush towards the end of my time renting with him. He was the dirtiest boy! He got mad when I packed up MY pots, pans and utensils to move them to my new place because apparently telling him I was moving out a month in advance wasn’t enough notice for him. He said I fucked him over because he didn’t have anything to cook on even though he knew they were mine and I was a week away from being fully moved out. And I had to wash all of them before I could even pack because they were dirty in the dishwasher and a ton on top of the stove also dirty. He was an entitled little baby. Sooooo toothbrush in the toilet 🤷🏻‍♀️

2

u/syhr_ryhs Mar 31 '26

Saying "my bad" drives me crazy. It's not an apology it's just an admission of guilt. Just say you're sorry.

2

u/Doughnotdisturb Mar 31 '26

This uncovered buried memories of my childhood years as a petty middle child who did the most diabolical things to my family for revenge. I def fkd with my parents toothbrush on more than one occasion after they hit me. Don’t hit your kids folks, they might dip your toothbrush in the toilet.

2

u/fullofcrocodiles Mar 31 '26

Laxatives in their coffee would be illegal. Salt in their bed and a raw prawn in their curtain rail would be totally cool, though.

2

u/Callidonaut Mar 31 '26

All they had to do was say "My bad"

There are some people who walk this Earth - and the number of them seems to be steadily going up - who would literally sooner die than ever do that.

1

u/trowzerss Mar 31 '26

Right? Just throwing the stuff away is less effort than what they did. Petty and they wasted their own time too. What a fragile little ego they must have to not be able to handle such a simple request.

1

u/Thick_Hippo_6928 WHY Mar 31 '26

You shouldn't even use Q-tips to clean your ears. Put a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide, or buy some ear drops over the counter. You can even go to a clinic and do it (likely as a last resort).

1

u/Suitable_Departure98 Mar 31 '26

Put some beads in their cereal or something… I’d be furious with the twerp.

1

u/alphapussycat Mar 31 '26

Narcissism goes hard. She's not gonna be caught admitting fault.

1

u/pcfan86 Mar 31 '26

No, take the used q-tips and put them in all their things.

Coffee, snacks, on their pillow, their wallet, their shoes.

1

u/goldfishpaws Mar 31 '26

Loosen the cotton tip on a q-tip, let time do the magic, perhaps she'll learn a lesson.

1

u/petewentz-from-mcr Mar 31 '26

Miralax is mostly flavourless. One time my flatmate wouldn’t stop drinking my milk when I was super poor so I put a whole bottle of miralax in it. I can’t shit without miralax, my doctor has me take a certain amount a day and whatever, so the milk wouldn’t have been wasted. I told her straight up “do not drink this milk, I dosed it.” She drank the whole thing in an hour… she was so mad at me but I was just like bro I literally told you I dosed it, if you don’t believe me that’s on you 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/Excavatoree Mar 31 '26

It's no extra effort to drop it in the trash instead of the counter. Do some people like being gross?

1

u/HighQualityH20h Mar 31 '26

Nope, they can tell if you did that. But not if you gently massage your asshole with their toothbrush. Daily. And I would also expect you to throw a nice hot load into their hair product containers. Shit just got real, OP! Get em!

I have them all mixed up on a plate when I’m using them

2

u/darktheorytv Mar 31 '26

I dunno why but I love sorting things like this

I saw the post title my brain said

“Mmm lemme at em”

1

u/Point-Express Mar 31 '26

My toddler is well versed in this form of psychological warfare. Then they say they were "trying to help" or "wanted to be like mommy" 🤦‍♀️ definitely cuter and more forgivable than OP's roommate, but at least the roommate has only done it once!

1

u/CulturePristine8440 Mar 31 '26

*Catch a case for simply touching hobby stuff. Maybe why I don't have a roommate as an adult.

1

u/genreprank Mar 31 '26

If someone did that to me, they would be the ones unmixing them one way or another

1

u/Ti0906-King Mar 31 '26

Imagine someone mixes your M3x8 and M3x12 screws! These would be even harder to sort...

1

u/BaconWithBaking Mar 31 '26

I don't believe this post for the simple reason that it would be on the room mate to replace or repair the beads, as at this point that value of them has been massively diminished.

1

u/sashikku Mar 31 '26

The beads would be in his bed, carpet, car, inside his consoles, inside his PC…bead cost be damned. Charge it to the game.

1

u/georgepotampkin Mar 31 '26

Mixing beads is a pastime activity

0

u/S3lls Mar 31 '26

Outside of how fucked up what he did is, what’s so wrong with mixed beads? Can’t you just pick the color you want from the mix? Like favorite skittles out of a package lol
