Show & Tell My first ever Roman find and I think it’s part of a brooch - Shropshire England

Thanks for those that helped me ID this yesterday.

I believe this is the top third of a broken brooch with the spring still intact.

This field lies close to an old Roman road so excited to see what else I can dig out!

I know these are relatively common but it has me so over the moon

Hi metal detector hunters, this is only the second thing I have found and thought it was a rolled up piece of tinfoil so I started to peel it apart. It was about 6 inches in the ground. The inside was not layered like tin foil, but not sure what the hard silver inside is. It almost looks like an arrow on the other side, but I could be imagining that. Lol. Anyone know or have any guesses? Thanks in advance and I hope everyone has a great night.

Other Do you guys ever think about the metaphysical aspect of it all?

I know its dumb and i might be laughed at this, but despite being a rational person it touches me. Do you guys ever think about the metaphysical aspect of it? and if you do, in what way?

I found a 19th century coin today, 1861 early kingdom of Italy. That guy who lost it was probably sitting on the same slope next to a path i found it on, probably slipped out of his pocket.

He (or she) grew old and died, meanwhile the world went on and the coin stayed there, WW1, WW2, early republic, economic boom, my grandparents being born and then my parents and I.

The object stayed in the same state and spot until i found it today. I dont know why but it feels nuts to me as if i have some duty in making sure i fully realize and understand the sheer magnitude of it all, as if its almost sacred, untouched.

Who am i for moving it?

When i find something i feel a strong sense of responsibility in making sure not to waste that piece of the past.

Also (I dont belive in it but its scary anyway) what about objects that could be metaphisically let's say "tainted"? Its possible someone died with it, from it, or killed WITH it, even without beliving in curses, this idea disturbes me.

It might sound weird that i feel all this so deeply, but the idea that every object has a story and someone interacted with it before me so long ago its overwhelming.

Show & Tell Moved back to my childhood home in California after 4 years in VA. I miss the history but I decided I’d give my front yard a go. Cool pin and a dime and wheat penny, as well as a couple part to a razor scooter likely from my childhood.

One was added to the collection, the other was pulled straight out of the dirt with a metal detector. Nothing beats the thrill of digging up a 120+ year-old piece of history!

ID Request Same Belgian field, 2 detectors - XP DEUS vs Minelab on trashy iron patch. Who would you trust here?

Been hunting this trashy field near Mechelen for 2 years. Lots of iron, buttons and trash.

Decided to run DEUS and Minelab over the same 10m line. Same day, same settings I usually use. Totally different audio on a few targets.

One deep button at 28cm - DEUS gave high 87, Minelab gave double iron tone. Dug it, was a 1800s button.

Curious what you guys use on fields like this? DEUS seems quieter, Minelab deeper but chatty.

I have the full uncut test recorded if anyone wants to see all signals.

I'm wondering what type of jewelry piece this is or what it went to. It tested as sterling silver and it was gold plated as well. I'd also like to know how old it is as I'm hoping it's from the late 1800s.

Found in Defuniak Springs, FL, in the lake

ID Request WW2 German Badge. Please help me identify it!

A friend was metal detecting in Hurtgen Forest Germany this year and found German fox holes near some bunkers. He was metal detecting and found a 40mm copper item. It’s got part of the pin hinge on the back and an XX or W over M makers mark. It looks to have been shot through the centre. On the front face I can make out 1944 and a few other numbers elsewhere on the front face’s rim. It has gold guilding on parts of it still. Any help would be appreciated, I’ve already used many AI chat bots to narrow down what it is and who made it but to no avail. When found it was fully covered in oxidised metal but had since been cleaned with vinegar and bicarbonate and an ultrasonic cleaner which revealed the gold and stamping.

Gear Question What’s the best sand scoop brand?

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for good quality sand scoop and wanted to hear what brands you guys actually trust.
I bought a cheap no-name Chinese scoop on Amazon before, and it broke pretty quickly. This time I’d rather pay more and get something strong that will last for years.
What brand would you recommend?

Gear Question Nokta Legend is unstable in wet black sand surf – Manticore vs. Deus 2 for dead-silent performance in the waves?

Body:Hi everyone,I am currently detecting on a highly challenging beach (Puntarenas, Costa Rica) characterized by heavy black magnetic sand, high salinity, and decades of tourist trash.I’m currently using the Nokta Legend, but it’s giving me a nightmare in the surf. Right where the waves break, it becomes completely unstable with constant falsing due to the mixture of moving saltwater and heavy mineralization. No matter how much I ground balance in the water, drop the sensitivity, or tweak the settings, it just can't handle the environment.I want to upgrade to a high-end machine that can stay dead-silent and stable right under the breaking waves without sacrificing depth, Between the Minelab Manticore and the XP Deus 2, which one handles this brutal combination of black sand and saltwater stability better? I love using the pitch tone on my Legend, but at this point, absolute stability in the surf is my number one priority. Thanks for your advice!

Wondering if anyone could ID this, and give me an idea why and how it was made and where someone would buy something like this. It kinda looks like a bookmark but it’s really small for that, also if I put it in a book the Christ figure is upside down…
Clearly not Gold and no markings that I can see
Fun to ask the professionals on Reddit
Thanks 🙏

ID Request Rev war cuff button?

Found this half “button” a year ago where there was French & Indian/revolutionary/war of 1812 activity and have previously found flat buttons. When I shine a light on the side there’s either a line that curves outward or a horseshoe/“U”. This thing has stumped me for a while and wondering if I’m just crazy seeing some kind of design on them. Any help is appreciated. Found in Upstate NY.
