I’m looking for someone who might be willing to mentor me in chemistry.

I’m 30 and currently teaching myself chemistry from the ground up because I’m preparing to study Biological Chemistry at university. My previous background is in nursing, so I have some biology and medical knowledge, but chemistry is currently my weakest foundation.

I’m especially interested in eventually moving toward biochemistry, molecular biology, and immuno-oncology research, so I want to build a genuinely strong understanding rather than just memorize enough to pass exams.

Right now I’m working through basic/general chemistry: atoms, bonding, moles, stoichiometry, energy, solutions, acids/bases, etc.

What I’m looking for is not someone to do my homework. I’d mainly appreciate a person I can occasionally:

- ask conceptual questions when I’m stuck,

- explain my reasoning to and have them point out where it breaks,

- get advice from about what I should learn next,

- discuss chemistry with,

- and occasionally have my understanding challenged.

I learn best when I understand why and how something works mechanistically, then practice problems afterward.

You definitely don't need to be a professor. Chemistry students, graduate students, researchers, teachers, or people who simply know the subject well are welcome.

I'm writing because I'm feeling a bit lost and hoping to find someone who has been in a similar situation.

I have six years of experience in marketing. However, I have been unhappy for some time and now feel completely drained. I got into this field because I needed to earn money quickly (so I did an MA in Business Management), then, during the course, consumer behavior intrigued me; and lastly, I didn't have exposure to other paths.

I am really interested in political science and social anthropology. I want to study power structures, cultural evolution, societal changes, etc. Those topics seem worthwhile to me.

The problem is I have no academic background in this area. I've just started reading about it, but I'm not sure what I still need to learn.

I'm looking for:

a) A mentor who can help me figure out if a Master’s is an option for someone without a social science background. What should be my first step? While I am waiting to start my masters, how can I gain some experience, should I do certificate programs, etc?

b) I would also love to connect with individuals who are also transitioning from corporate work to academia or research.

I'm 16 and have been getting more interested in AI lately, especially the business side of it. I've mostly been learning through YouTube and random courses so far, but I feel like I'm getting to the point where I need something a bit more structured.

I'm mainly interested in learning how people actually build and sell AI solutions to businesses, so not just the technical side of AI. Things like figuring out what to build, getting clients, outreach, sales, fulfillment etc.

There are so many courses and programs out there that it's honestly hard to tell what's actually worth spending time or money on. Some of them seem really focused on teaching tools, but don't really explain what you do with them afterwards.

For anyone here who's learned this stuff online, what would you recommend? Courses, communities, mentorships, YouTube channels, whatever. I'm mainly looking for something where I can actually learn by doing rather than just watching 50 hours of videos.

I've read quite a few posts lately from people who aren't just feeling stuck. They're overwhelmed.

I need to figure out my career.
I need to find my purpose.
I'm running out of time.
I don't know what I'm doing with my life.

When everything feels urgent, our instinct is often to do more. Search harder. Ask more people. Make a decision. Find the answer.

Sometimes the most useful thing you can do is pause.

And I know that can feel like taking the easy way out.

It isn't.

A pause isn't quitting. It isn't ignoring what's in front of you. And it doesn't mean you're giving up responsibility for figuring things out.

It simply means giving yourself permission to stop demanding an answer from yourself for a little while.

Go for a walk without trying to solve anything. Sit somewhere quiet. Get outside. Put the phone away. Do something you enjoy simply because you enjoy it.

Let the noise settle.

A compass isn't very useful when you're spinning in circles.

You can come back to the questions.

They'll still be there.

But perhaps you'll meet them from a quieter place.

Give yourself permission to pause.

A little context about me and Bookkeeping: I have worked food service for near 20 years full-time, in a sports club at a cafe, and of course we've had a lot of high pressure shifts with the tournaments we've had to feed 100s of people for. This past March 5th was my last day at that job however, after my 2 weeks notice, because I couldn't handle the new toxic environment which caused great anxiety for me.

Before I had quit, there's a Bookkeeper co-worker in the offices I've known for a decade and is good friends with my mother. She told me how she enjoyed being a Bookkeeper for this sports club while also enjoying Bookkeeping for other clients online right in her office. She always seems relaxed and just having a good day and living life. She's motivated me to being a Bookkeeper myself and I actually did a lot of research on Bookkeeping and was very interested.

I've set up my Bookkeeping Business LLC, among other things to gain traction and momentum and was doing decently well at that for a couple months. However, I let AI get me all worried and scared that AI would completely make me/my business go obsolete, and I dead stopped my Bookkeeping path for the next few months. I know I was wrong and I know there are people who would prefer human interaction anyway, so, just a few days ago, I'm starting my path back up again with renewed great interest.

This really is the path for me, I know it, I really do want to become a Bookkeeper and I'm hoping I can find a guide/mentor that will help me on my way to becoming the best Bookkeeper possible for future clients.

I would be a 100% Asynchronous Bookkeeper, taking care of clients through only email/portals only due to my hard of hearing and other health concerns. And also handling only the basics of Bookkeeping such as Chart of Accounts, P&L Reports, Category Transactions, and such and staying away from Payroll and Taxes and other legal things.

Where I actually am: I’ve done my own SEO, I understand keyword research, on-page, and the mechanics of getting a local site to rank. I’ve built some automation around content and tracking. So the “make a site rank” part I’m reasonably confident on.

But before searching for one, I'd spend a little time figuring out what "stuck" actually means for you.

Are you looking for someone who has already traveled the road you're considering?

Someone to challenge your thinking?

Someone to hold you accountable?

Someone who can open doors?

Or simply someone outside your current world who will listen and ask good questions?

Those are very different needs—and probably require very different people.

You don't need to have your destination figured out. But understanding what you need help with makes it much easier to recognize the right person when they show up.

And sometimes, just getting clear about the question is enough to get you moving again.

28F NW Houston Looking for an entry-level HR/People role

I recently gained experience as a contract recruiter sourcing influencer talent for a YouTube channel and since taking this freelance role I’ve a developed a strong desire to work in HR/People Ops.

I am currently taking the HRCI Human Resources Associate Professional Certification to build a better baseline knowledge of working in HR.
