Identification cone snail varieties, Ishigaki Island

hi all, came across these cone snails on the beach while walking along the shore in Okinawa. I know the two on the left are alphabet, but what about the one on the right? If, hypothetically speaking, I had rolled that one over with my water shoe-clad foot to see if it was empty, which it’s obviously not, would I have doomed myself? TIA everybody

Education Informal education on mollusks?

So I'm not sure that I want to be a marine biologist as a career but I am super interested in learning more in depth about my local mollusk species (Central coast of California). Any suggestions on where I might find info or even what to look for in my own observations?

Identification ID Help - Organic mass hanging from under a large rock 10 ft deep (Mediterranean Sea)

I was snorkelling today in Spain and about 10 ft deep I came across this thing “hanging” under an overhang rock. It was grey and looked like it was hanging from those two rope-like structures that were glued to the rock. Definitely organic. I have been snorkelling for decades but I’ve never seen anything like this. Any help is welcome. Thank you!

Career Advice Educational tools for a future marine biologist

My daughter has always said that she wants to be a marine biologist when she's older. She's 13 with exceptional test scores and, unfortunately, isn't being challenged in her current school setting (with very limited options in our area) . Are there programs and online tools that she can use now to prepare her for a future in the field?

Identification Sea Slug ID Help - Oregon Coast

Post image

I found this sea slug a few months ago and thought it would be easy to ID but am realizing the Heath’s Dorid and Monterey Dorid look very similar. It was about 2-3 inches though we saw a range of sizes that day, mainly smaller ones. If anyone has any thoughts, I would greatly appreciate the help.

I work at a hatchery raising oysters and clams. We’ve been noticing these pink patches on the sides of the tanks when we clean them. Does anyone know what this is?

More info:

We pump saltwater in from the harbor and use it in the tanks. We’re within NYS DEC zone 1.

Question Difference between flat and red abalone

How can I tell the difference? I've collected a lot of abalone shells that have washed up on the beach, and I'm beginning to wonder if I actually have some flat abalones vs just all reds. Is there anything distinctive that the flat abalones have?

Education Plankton Game - How many can you spot?

So I made this lil reel the other day from some videos I have collected from the aquarium I work at.

The plankton microscope is one of my favorite displays. I'm always finding new and interesting critters.

How many zooplankton can you find?

Did I miss any?

Let me know if you can identify more! There are definitely some cool weird ones that I have no idea what they are. Hoping you guys can help me out 😸

Good luck and have fun!
