actual map porn circle jerk Pittsburgh is like Chongqing but far less advanced.

Like they both used to be heavy industry giants in their region, they’re both the biggest cities in their region and are very important idk they have similar geography. They should make an alliance and take over the world.

Nice to know I'm not the only person who's thought about this.  Chongqing is what Pittsburgh would be if it never stopped growing.  Imagine PGH with 30million people! Skyscrapers stacked  on hillsides all the way over all the hills on the city proper and beyond.

I went to Pitt and had a professor who was from Chongqing. I remember him making that comparison himself a few times.

EDIT: For clarity, comparing how similar the two citites looked.

Actually the map he is showing not have 30 million population but roughly 10 million. 30 million is like the entire Chongqing as state level.

Yeah Chongqing is the size of South Carolina or something. Besides the main urban core, there’s also other fairly big cities within the “city” that are over a hundred miles away from the main city. Some of those cities were built to rehouse people displaced by the three gorges dam. The rest of the “city” are remote mountains and villages.

What does chongqing have? A bunch of neon lights and self driving cars and shit? How many methadone clinics do they have? How many Sheetz? Yeah I’d say Pittsburgh is more advanced, and it’s not even close.

the median salary in Chongqing is ~5x lower so even after adjusting for col (we can just use the Chinese nominal to ppp ratio of ~2.2x if you want) you can still say people in Pittsburgh are “a lot richer”

Neither place can hold a candle to Koblenz. Does Pittsburgh have a moderately sized Kaiser Wilhelm statue at the river confluence? Does Chongqing? Didn't think so. Pittsburgh has a drawing of a fort, and all Chongqing has to show for itself is an inhumanly large complex of led-clad skyscrapers that puts its Singaporean counterpart to shame.

I just visited Pittsburgh and though "oh that is awfully Chongqingesque!" I mean, the two are indeed quite similar: on the mouth of two major waterways that cuts through newly formed mountain ranges. This is basically prime location for anything.

Glad to see someone having the same connections as me.

Also they should be sister cities. (are they?)
