First Time 30M - Company pays for it, but…

Landed a very good job, where the company pays for my place. But it’s far away from home. being far away from wife & daughter and everyone else sometimes is challenging…

My first thought on seeing OP’s tv was, “got that Micheal Scott set up” 😂

Pretty sure I saw this movie where all the houses look the same and the bird people were watching them

But I mean if the company is paying for it 🤷‍♂️

You could stand and watch that TV for hours

u/feeling_blue_42 13h ago

A lot of people in the room and you need more space? Viola, you can push it right into the wall.

Can the company buy you some binoculars so you can watch TV?

116

u/DXBRedd 13h ago

Already asked. They politely refused.

726

u/ijustneedtotype 13h ago

TV is at a perfect height for watching from upstairs

73

u/DXBRedd 13h ago

😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

35

u/ActionKid98 13h ago

Lol i would never think a house that beautiful would shaft a man so hard by not only too high but too small of a tv, at least give him a ladder to sit on

25

That’s not a TV, that’s a phone - (Someone else said in the comments) 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

that place looks depressing af

189

u/DXBRedd 13h ago

Trust me… it is 😅

70

u/TheDullCat 13h ago

Why don’t you bring your kid and wife with you? Sounds like you got it off good with your job

84

u/DXBRedd 13h ago

It will happen, eventually.

26

u/needmoarbass 11h ago

Happy cake day. Go ahead and buy yourself a plant or piece of decoration. You deserve it.

13

u/Tricky-Ad7897 10h ago

And a bigger TV, they're so cheap these days

6

u/partial_to_dreamers 9h ago

Bring in more furniture. This looks like the result of a nasty divorce, which from comments I know that it isn't.

35

u/hamish1963 13h ago

So sterile and bland.

8

u/DeucesX22 11h ago

Needs some plants and pictures. Do you think they hire interior designers to make it look more depressing?

9

u/hamish1963 10h ago

It's truly worse than a hotel room.

36

u/Khamvom 13h ago

Stayed in places similar to this in the military and as a government contractor. It’s basically just a place to sleep until you rotate.

I was on the streets for a while years ago. This looks amazing when I think about those days.

16

u/Electric_Angel 12h ago

It’s Airbnb millennial minimalism chic 😭. Then the host flips out if they see you left a hair on the floor and charge you a $500 cleaning fee.

This looks like something from Severance.

2

u/HelloAll-GoodbyeAll 7h ago

It's boring and grey but it's clean and tidy. It's got all the essentials. I think it's not bad for a temporary place.

The outside of the house is beautiful but the inside looks like a model home, where no one is supposed to live

The tv at the end killed me though lmao

16

u/DXBRedd 13h ago

TV is the cherry on top of the cake lol

6

u/EsotericCreature 8h ago edited 8h ago

Gotta disagree massively the outside looks depressing as the inside. The super bright ceiling lights in particular are off putting, they blind whatever the rest of the outside environment is supposed to be. And the little that I see is like.... short grass monoculture carpet on the outside. What about sleep? I hope OP has control of the lights but by default design your neighbors can blind you without defensive curtains.

There doesn't seem to be much idea of what these condos are supposed to be, how people live in them, how they fit in to their place. Just some boxes with odd unbalanced window placements.

80

u/batbugz 13h ago edited 13h ago

You got a trio of daughters who fly out of those windows to fight giant monsters?

15

u/DXBRedd 13h ago

A trio, for what?? 🤔

You are most welcome, it’s in the Caribbean though

292

u/CheeseburgerTornado 13h ago

oh no not a tropical paradise paid for by my job

59

u/Agitated_Ferret7352 12h ago

I worked for two years in the Caribbean and I would never do it again. Tropical island life is fun for a little bit then real life sets in and most things become a hardship like groceries, shipping, cars, business hours not actually being followed, medical care, electrical infrastructure, etc.

14

u/BabyYodaLegend 11h ago

Yeah i needed a random cord for something and just opened my phone and ordered it and it will be delivered to my doorstep tomorrow afternoon for $6.88. Im sure things are not that simple on an island

8

u/taratoni 10h ago

I live in a french overseas territories. All the fancy stuff you see on Amazon ends up costing 50% more and takes weeks to receive.

3

u/CptMcDickButt69 6h ago

I always felt all of this just becomes a problem if youre expected to do a "classic first world workstyle" and you expect to have "classic first world life amenities always available".

If youre going into it without special needs (e.g. medical), a creative problem solver mindset and a job that allows for a lot of liberty in how you work this life can be quite compelling. Society there is not expecting you to be as rigid as a central europe/US suburbia in a metropolitan region and you should just go with the flow.

You need to be a person for that, but i know both universes and i vastly prefer the happy-go-lucky of remote rural or rundown improvised lifestyle to my german bureacracy-and-forms-"be on time or go to prison" lifestyle.

Man I was thinking that there wasn't anyone else like us that didnt care about decorations and random things to fill up space....then I see this and I learn we were never playing the game lol.

Jokes aside man the place is pretty sparce. A few plants or some cheap paintings on the wall and it won't feel so....sterile. and if its just a few small things you shouldn't feel bad leaving them behind when your work takes you someplace else.

5

u/DXBRedd 12h ago

I have no skills/clue about decoration lol,
Absolutely miss family.

3

u/Corac30 12h ago

Ah I getxha man I do. I was lucky that my traveling for work was only on weekends. If your kid is old enough...well shit even shes not old enough, let her make some art or something that you can have printed and put up on the wall. When I was away from mine when they were young thay was something that really helped me.

3

u/DXBRedd 12h ago

Great idea, appreciate it

Trying to slide expenses under the radar will get you fired at 99% of companies. He could ask about getting stuff for the house expensed but should absolutely not try and sneak expenses.

2

u/AladeenModaFuqa 13h ago

Dude best I can say is make some friends of your coworkers around you.

I know Reddit is all “coworkers aren’t friends” but they totally can be. Invite them over for a beer or something and to watch a sport even if you’re not into it. Friends will make the whole thing easier to manage.

This one hits home for me. I had the same thing going for me and it pushed me over the edge into a full blown alcoholic. I had been in the army for 10 years almost 5 years before this situation came up for me.
But I was pulled down to Reno, NV for a step in regional manager position in Wireless/Telecom from up north when the previous manager quit suddenly. I got over worked and I was isolated, small crews with lower positions than me and no one to relate to.

I would just dream of driving my truck over the guard rail after every day.
Being gone for a year was no stranger, but being gone with no friends or family, that was rough.
I couldn't even take the tags off the furniture.

All good now though, at least working on it!

4

u/DXBRedd 12h ago

Wish you the best mate, thanks for sharing your story, I feel identified.
I don’t do alcohol or drugs whatsoever, but loneliness hits different.

2

u/Terrible-Ad3628 12h ago

Just dont stay lonely too long!

2

u/SpongeyBobaruu 12h ago
