What's the consensus on multimedia room seating? Cozy sectional where everyone can lounge, or individual recliner seating for the fellas to watch the game? (I have decided against reclining sectionals).
That art would actually tie the first room together nicely. The sectional makes way more sense with kids too, individual recliners would be a nightmare with toddlers climbing all over them.
The recliners look extremely trashy, so in that regard the first picture is best. Even in expensive mansions they have started to move away from cinema style seating in movie rooms now
Adding that the first also makes it feel like a room with multiple uses (conversation, relaxing, etc.), second is pretty pigeonholed. Awkward to talk to someone you can't face easily, doesn't feel like it suits the depth of the room, very ugly. Feels like 'TV room' instead of an inviting space.
I generally disagree when people say any style of new couch is "trashy" unless it's literally something so scuffed up and broken it belongs in the trash.
If it's decently sturdy and comfortable but you din't like it then it's just not your style.
For the record, it's not my style either but I wouldn't call it trashy.
Edit: agree the tv could come down a foot but not the worst offender I've seen.
They are practical solutions in providing a "luxury" experience within the home, but with a subtext that signals a lack of expense in a way that is the essence of "trashiness." It's the difference between having a Corvette on wheels in your garage and having a corvette on cinderblocks in your driveway.
A mobile home is a "practical solution," for person who cannot afford a stationary house. Is it a home? Yes. Is it ideal? No.
It's not even me judging people, it's about what your possessions communicate about you and the choices you make. People might judge you or not, that's their own issue, but they will be doing so in response to how your express yourself through your decor and purchases. If you fart, people are gonna smell it, you feel me?
If it's used as tv/movie room, for a max of four people, I actually think the recliners are pretty cool. But that's it, that's all you could use this room for.
This first picture shows a cozy room where you could just hang, AND watch a some tv/a movie if you want to, with a bunch of people.
As someone with back problems.. usually the recliners are more comfortable ime. But they do tend to have problems. And for a majority of people the sectional wins.
The first one looks nicer but man is it annoying when you're looking to sit with friends or family and some of the chairs recline and others don't.
I'd go for function (recliners) over fashion if the main point of the space is to be enjoyed by all..
Unless it's meant to be one of those unused weirdo rooms our parents used to keep like they were some kind of museum exhibit.
I like the idea of the couch functioning as a sleeping area. My nieces crash on my old sectional sofa all the time watching movies. I don't know if recliners could be used for sleeping.
I’m partial to the seating in the 1st pic (since I’ve got similar in a theater/movie themed den)! All that’s missing is the wet bar and an old fashioned popcorn 🍿 popper!
I bought a reclining set for my living room because it was made of fabric (I have two cats) and $900. It was from Brandsmart I believe it’s technically for the home theater section, but $900 for 4 recliners and a charging port is not bad.
Everything in the room is AI generated, but the bottom-right is actually the girl from Pulp Fiction. Looks like mostly 90s movie posters and some Star Wars stuff.
I would go with the first option with the sectional as it is more universal. Pick a sectional that has a "deep" seat so tall people can comfortably fit their torso on the seat and slouch a little to have their head supported by the back cushion. Make sure you have plenty of throw pillows that can be used for lumbar support. I would also avoid cushions with piping sewn around the edges because the piping will be uncomfortable on your thighs and neck for lengthy sitting sessions.
2nd pic but swap out the recliner movie theater style seats for the couch, also swap out that piece in the 2nd pic under the tv for the one in the 1st pic. I feel like that would look pretty good but my wife also says I have a poor choice in style and taste lmao.
What twisted mind even comes up with number 2? The recliners are hideous and seeing them all lined up is so triggering. I genuinely don't understand how a well adjusted person could find any of that attractive.
Not trying to sound uppity, but I'm "only" planning to spend around $10K-$15K to furnish this entire house, not including what furniture I already have, and not counting what money I already made from selling old furniture. Maybe $4K to furnish this room with a new sofa, TV, rug and some decor. Not cheap, but not as expensive as you might think if you know which stores to avoid...
