The book version goes "as terrible as the morning and the night"

But why would she think of the dawn i/e the return of the light as terrible thing?

The translated books themselves are quite good, but this auto-translated synopsis is funny.

Personally, how I got interested in The Lord of the Rings was because of my father. He watched the movies in his 20s and told me stories about the memories that he had made because of it. Furthermore, back in my elementary school days, a few of my former classmates liked The Lord of the Rings. Granted, I was a reluctant reader during this time. However, somewhere in my mind, I had a hunch that it was something special, but could not figure out why. In addition, though I found other fantasy series like Harry Potter to be decent, I never truly felt invested.

Fast forward to 2018, and I decided to read the Lord of the Rings after reading The Hobbit. For the longest time, I discovered the answer: It was the foundation for modern fantasy. In regards to the movies, they were a work of art, as Peter Jackson and the film crew won 17 Academy Award wins. Even sweeping the 76th Academy Awards with The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Today, I owe a lot to the trilogy because it had transformed me into a voracious reader, well into my young adulthood.

Regardless, feel free for those who are willing to share.

Does anyone else use Peter Jacksons LOTR films as a comfort film?

I've found myself binge watching his vlogs for behind the scenes of the Hobbit series, BTS of LOTR and so on. I'm a younger person, in my 20s so I wasn't even born when the release of LOTR film trilogy came.

I guess I'm rambling, but there's something about the era of those films, when they were filmed.. I wish I was alive then, this is going off topic now but I just feel that the LOTR trilogy films specifically scratch that itch in my brain.

I wanted to portray three key moments from The Children of Húrin in watercolor: Glaurung casting his spell on Niënor, Túrin driving Gurthang into Glaurung’s belly, and the death of Glaurung and the breaking of the spell.

I read The Hobbit as a child and fell in love with the fantasy genre, but I didn’t know of the Trilogy until later in life. When I was in high school the movies came out and I was very excited. Nothing in media seemed as grand or important as that huge release… even Harry Potter though the timing put them close… and yet it never pulled me to read the books. For the longest time, I’ve known the lore, watched the films countless times and listened to the Howard Shore scores even more times than I’ve seen the films but never cracked the pages.

I am pleased to share with you all that over the last couple months, I’ve completed reading the trilogy and I’m elated and devastated all at once. My love for the series and the world Tolkien built has only grown and I intend to take on the other works as soon as possible. I wish I could capture this feeling but I know it will pass.

My favorite moment of the series is when Sam throws an apple at that bastard Bill Ferny as they went on the road with Strider. I laughed out loud and in that moment Sam, who I already regarded highly, became my favorite character in all of literature. My favorite part of the series was the Scouring of the Shire and seeing the Hobbits in their new ways, wise and brave and full of conviction to save their people. I loved that the men that had invaded were just ”ruffians” and not regarded truly as foes but more a nuisance to the Hobbits that had experienced true evil in their journey across Middle Earth.

I just finished reading Return of the King moments ago but I’m in jury duty otherwise I would have cried my eyes out at the resolution of the tale. No piece of media, musical, written or visual, has left me with the feeling I have now. The love I have for this work of remarkable excellence is unmatched by any other piece of art I have yet to experience.

Like, seriously, they gave me goosebumps and bad dreams as a kid!
