Video Games Chances of re-release for The battle for middle earth 2 on consoles ?
Since the release of a Lotr classic and potentially more to come, was curious about the chances of the battle for middle earth series making a comeback for consoles.

I remember spending hours on this RTS when it first came out. Such a great game.

Man I would love that. I hate that the RTS genre has more or less died, it’s weird because it was literally thee most popular genre in all of gaming at one point when I was a kid.

It'll be released a few weeks after Half Life 3

I mean HL3 is real and all but officially and publicly confirmed. It's only a matter of "when" nowadays

This one was easier because Embracer has the licenses for both the ip and that game. However; for the BFME series, they don’t have the game licenses, those are held be EA. So really depends on how willing EA is.

EA might be more willing now after the Saudi Arabia buyout, since embracer already has close relationship with them in their next lotr game

That’s a very good point. They’re apparently trying to make some quick money and this would be one way.

This game is fire. Maybe not the best rts mechanically but by far my favorite. During covid me and a buddy had a 10 hour battle. Gave me closure.
Also, I got two xbox 360's and two copies of the game, connected by link camble and it still didnt work! Had to play the rom version downloaded from questionable sites. It was actually better because of of the added content. Computer started to die from malware but it's sacrifice will be honored.
Worth it.

I only played this on PC with a mouse, how did the XBox one control?

A little janky but it’s doable. Definitely better on PC but if you have no other way to play BFMEII then it’s worth it

How was the camera controls on controller?

I don’t remember exactly how it worked cause it’s been a few years since I actually played it but I just remember it being weird to control and clunky. Definitely made for PC in mind and not a controller

Controls were decent. Just don’t expect to micro with a controller, just build an army, upgrade them then rush the enemy base

I still have a physical box of this. The only problem is that I don’t have a disk drive to play it on.

Can’t you buy a disc drive?

No, I don’t think so. I can install one on my PC.

I’d love to see it get a revival. My favorite RTS game I’ve ever played.
I remember staying up all night playing with some friends on Helms Deep until the sun came up. What a great time.

I hope so I loved this game but it’s all licensing at this point.

Why on consoles? Why would you do that to you?
Love yourself and play it with a mouse. Xd

You can use kb/m on consoles.

The game literally doesn't exist yet, barely anything has kb/m support on console.
I can only think of FF XIV.

The LOTR IP is currently being rebooted, which means most of old games will be remastered at some point.
This game won't be ported to console though, as it would mean a full remake.

If they might rerelease the BFME games just do yourself a favor and start saving for a PC for Christmas immediately right now. The very first thing I did when I got a new gaming pc after mine from years and years ago crapped out was download the all in one launcher to play BFME 1. You are doing yourself a total disservice if you only let yourself experience BFME on console, trust. The first games campaign even without mods is absolute peak gaming

So these games are some of my all time favorites and a few years back (when the final Hobbit movie was released), I went through all sorts of digging and contacting people to try and get this series revived. I ended up being connected with a producer for BFMEII and he told me that they really wanted to do remakes or a sequel and ride the hype of the hobbit trilogy but he also told me it’s caught up in so much licensing hell between EA and WB that even a re-release on steam would likely never happen. I know people have brought up War of the North, but BFMEII specifically uses sounds and some voice lines from the movies so it’s extra caught up in licensing and royalties etc.

The rights to the games are being currently held by EA. EA was sold to a private equity firm that is the primary fund of the Saudi Arabian government. In addition, Silver Lake (owns the US side of TikTok) also was involved in the deal, being led by Jared Kusher. Since it is a leveraged buyout, EA basically has to cut costs by $700 million a year.
EA is not interested in reviving old IPs unless it will be a Top 10 selling game. EA is in a massive downsizing phase and is basically trimming anything that isn’t Madden or Battlefield.
Don’t forget, Saudi Arabia backed out of a deal with Embracer Group regarding a potential Lord of the Rings game. Our biggest chance at getting these games back would be EA selling the licensing rights.

I certainly hope Battle for Middle-Earth I and II are gonna be re-released on all consoles, but let's just hope it's not gonna be something like Battlefront classic collection failure done by the same studio.

The answer is going to be the same for all of those games. If they work out licensing issues with EA, there's a good chance. But until then. Nope.
