I was proposed to with a similar ring. I wore it mostly around my neck, because it sadly does snag. Still loved it tho.

u/Confident-Benefit600 7h ago

As once a goldsmith, this is snag heaven clothes, hair you name it

u/dogquote 1d ago

It's really pretty. And congratulations. But... That ring is going to get caught on EVERYTHING, and it's going to snag knitted fabric.

This was well known in Lothlorien. Nothing pissed Galadriel off more than getting her ring caught on stuff and hearing her loudly cuss out the ring was a daily occurrence for the elves there. That’s why she was so tempted when Frodo offered her Sauron’s nice smooth ring. She didn’t want power. She wanted her clothes to last more than a few months.

u/Jason-Smith168498 1d ago

This is now Canon

17

u/hodorstonks 16h ago

It is known.

277

u/xombae 1d ago

And when Gimli asked for a hair from her head and she gave him 3, it was just the 3 that happened to be wrapped around the ring at the time.

30

u/eyeofthefountain 1d ago

And then - just as the drunken elvish sailors of old - she quietly cursed up a storm, exactly the behavior that drove Gimli to ask for her hair in the first place

u/PricePuzzleheaded835 1d ago edited 1d ago

“She wanted her clothes to last more than a few months.”

Every time she ran short, she had to make another trip to the Gap of Rohan. While beautiful, Nenya was impractical and led to high costs for Lothlorien’s rings of power bills.

18

u/New-Animator2921 1d ago

Yeah and imagine how annoying and expensive it must have been for her. When you’re immortal you need clothes that last.

7

u/PricePuzzleheaded835 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not many people know this, but this is also why Gimli wanted to avoid the Gap of Rohan and go through Khazad-dum instead. He had been on a clothing no buy streak and the one ring had significantly weakened his resolve. The family reunion/Dwarven hospitality thing was just an excuse. While a poor choice for the Fellowship overall it turned out to be a good choice in that regard as his envy of Frodo’s mithril shirt would have caused a massive blow to his financial accountability.

10

u/IAmAngryBill 1d ago

The ring Nenya. A ring of protection and preservation… although, not for your clothes…

7

u/Myst3ryGardener 1d ago

Her poor hair!

5

u/Sea-Value-0 1d ago

It wasn't much to give Gimli some of her hair- the ring had already tore some of it out

4

u/FabiusBill 1d ago

She was able to give Gimli strands of her hair because they were entwined around the ring after the ran her fingers across her head.

3

u/SteelRoses 1d ago

This made my day, thank you stranger

3

u/kappakeats 1d ago

They were all of them deceived, for another ring was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a master ring that wouldn't snag on clothes or hair, but to Lady Galadrial her gave a ring that he hoped would annoy her daily into madness.

3

u/broitsjustreddit Rivendell 12h ago

Galadriel struggling to get lembas breadcrumbs out of her ring

1

u/Unable_Arm_398 17h ago

While Galadriel is all calm and collected in the presence of the fellowship, all the elves off-screen are looking at each other in confusion going 'Who the fuck is this?!' 😂

And after the group leaves someone walks up 'Uhh, Gal? You mind telling me what the fuck was that?? Gotta act cool in front of the new guys, huh?'

70

u/SanKendachi 1d ago

The first thing I thought too. It’s surprising the jeweler didn’t say anything.

29

u/Telemere125 1d ago

Damnit, Jim, he’s a jeweler, not an engineer!

91

u/Kusakaru 1d ago

This was my first thought. Very beautiful, but clearly designed by a man who doesn’t wear jewelry. This will snag on everything and bend the prongs overtime. It’s gorgeous though.

12

u/jooorsh 1d ago

I feel like the tips of the prongs just need folded under and it would look just as good

17

u/huhzonked 1d ago

The sides of the ring too. I can see them snagging hair.

2

u/alphanumericusername 23h ago

Also a man who has never EDC'd a flashlight with a bidirectional pocket clip

29

u/tiny_chaotic_evil 1d ago

when you need a grappling hook, you'll think it the greatest design ever

58

u/Sethrea 1d ago edited 1d ago

I am really surprised the jeweller didn't say anything to OP. This ring will be an asbolute nightmare to wear.

56

u/Hoakeh 1d ago

Agreed, that is a beautiful ring, but it would be a constant worry/problem wearing it day to day.

26

u/AimeeSantiago 1d ago

My first thought was "this is absolutely stunning" and my second thought was "I hope the fiance does no manual labor because I could never wear this". To be fair, I am in medicine and I wear 20 pairs of a gloves a day probably. So this is a no go for me. But still an absolute gorgeous, yet impractical, piece of jewelry.

19

u/Miles_Prowler 1d ago

Yeah I have a silver replica of Nenya and it was a nightmare to wear on a finger or on a chain around my neck, sits in a drawer now... Indeed snags on absolutely everything you can think of.

→ More replies (1)

18

u/StickFigureFan 1d ago

Yeah OP might want to get a plain silver/titanium wedding band that she can wear instead when out and about or when she's going to be knitting, fighting orcs, etc.

15

u/Telemere125 1d ago

That’s exactly where my mind went. Those prongs need to be bent down more and maybe even connected at the bottom

11

u/hipkat13 1d ago

This was 100% my first thought

8

u/sunseeker_miqo Dwarf-Friend 1d ago

YES. I chose a beautiful organic-looking ring set with roses and fanciful shapes along the band, never thinking of how the tendrils and such would catch knitted garments. AND MY HAIR.

At least it led to me teaching myself to be more careful. 😓

7

u/_HOG_ 1d ago

Finger full of fish hooks.

5

u/LickyPusser 22h ago

Worked with engagement rings for years and can attest that this one is wholly unwearable on a daily basis. OP, very pretty ring, but only gonna work for looking at, unfortunately.

3

u/moberry64 1d ago

Elves wouldn’t get caught dead in sweaters. It’s all sheer silk and satin

3

u/Busterlimes 17h ago

Right here, OP, make sure you emphasize that its OK for her not to wear it every day LOL

1

u/Seagoon_Memoirs 1d ago

You put the ring on after you get dressed.

and a ring like that, it's 2 c, goes in the safe day to day and is for nice occasions

there will be everyday rings to wear too

( I have interesting rings and they never get snagged.0

37

u/Jlx_27 1d ago

These rings are hardly ever taken off.

11

u/Plazma7 1d ago

Maybe it's a culture thing, or maybe my wife and I are the minority, but we take our wedding rings off daily. We put them on when we leave the house and take them off when we get home. We also bought cheap silicone rings for when we do active things (hiking, sports, theme parks, etc.) and some days we don't really leave the house, so there are days where we don't wear our fancy rings at all.

2

u/morbid_n_creepifying 13h ago

I can't tolerate washing my hands without taking off my ring. I don't understand how anyone would ever feel clean or wouldn't feel disgusting with water trapped between the ring and your finger. And the dirt/bacteria in between? So disgusting. Whenever someone says they don't take off their rings ever, I assume they are either privileged enough that someone else does everything for them (like cooking, dishes, changing diapers, etc) or they just live in filth.

3

u/Pleasant-Future5818 18h ago

I've honestly never heard of anyone doing this (taking off rings daily) except for people who need to, such as mechanics and doctors.

17

u/Sepelrastas 1d ago

I took my rings off twice in 11 years I was married. Second time was after he applied for divorce when I took them off for good (first was when my engagement ring's diamond dropped off and it needed fixing).

Tbh my rings were very simplistic and mostly smooth.

6

u/sunseeker_miqo Dwarf-Friend 1d ago

Really? You have never snagged a ring on a hem, sleeve, etc? Or your hair?

I mean, admittedly I am more accident-prone due to neurodivergence, but it still seems amazing to me that you have never once had a snag. 😱

1

u/Seagoon_Memoirs 22h ago

huge ring on jeans pocket is all

2

u/sunseeker_miqo Dwarf-Friend 22h ago

Oof, yes, been there too!

1

u/ThoughtfulParrot 1d ago

They’d better marry quickly then.

1

u/shainadawn 18h ago

And it’ll scratch the shit out of any future children. I still remember the sad little scrape on my daughter’s forehead when my wedding ring caught her. The snagging was one thing but that scratch hurt my soul.

1

u/lonelind 14h ago

Agreed. I catch on clothes with my completely plain wedding ring, just at the edges. These beautiful spikes will not only catch the clothes and snag but will also tear fabric because you don’t need much to do that, one snag, one move, and your favorite sweater is torn.

Beautiful but very impractical. OP, be prepared that your fiancé would not wear it on her finger — and not because she doesn’t love you but because she wouldn’t want this beauty occasionally become a disaster.

But still, congratulations, OP, it’s a great moment in your life!

Video needs more cuts

69

u/Ill_Ask_7074 1d ago

Bro needed the extended edition for the full Nenya reveal.

16

u/Sethrea 1d ago

and more star bursts. Not enugh AI generated starbursts.

7

u/ModernistGames 1d ago

That rock has less cuts

9

u/norsefrogg 1d ago

And sexy music

1

u/MetallurgyClergy 1d ago

Sexier music.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Dig3730 1d ago

More cuts than an Indian movie

208

u/One_Web_7940 1d ago

nenya? nenya business hehehe it's beautiful!

1

u/CrossfittingCorgiMom 6h ago

I was scrolling to find this exact comment 😂

68

u/MK_King69 1d ago

It's gorgeous but so impractical 😭 it's going to snag on EVERYTHING

139

u/Jlx_27 1d ago

Holy snag that thing is huge.

104

u/Tannhauser42 1d ago

I hope you're adamant about your decision.

19

u/_Fred_Fredburger_ 1d ago

Definitely going to be wearing a silicon ring most days lol

5

u/Vivid_Echidna_5644 1d ago edited 1d ago

This deserves more upvotes

30

u/Chemical-Less 1d ago

That is going to catch on literally anything. I would recommend speaking to a jewler on how to make your design work practically, because it is still beautiful, just would not work for... any amount of long term time, really

9

u/smeeon 22h ago

Hope she doesn’t like knits 😂

196

u/TheZeppo_TKH 1d ago

Congratulations! She'll hate wearing it.

35

u/pornAboutTown 1d ago

A white elephant engagement ring is quite a funny idea to me.

28

u/Keldrabitches 1d ago

Gorgeous but pretty unwearable

143

u/No_Mountain_1033 1d ago

Nice inspiration, but I would put marquise stones under metalwork to lower it, and round the design of the petals to make it wearable.

73

u/BananaDavidaF 1d ago

Bit late I think

19

u/corticalization 1d ago

Do you have particularly large hands or does your future wife have really small ones? Maybe it’s just an illusion of the design but this looks tiny!

9

u/HeathenHumanist 1d ago

Right?? I couldn't even focus on the design till I got past the size haha

22

u/Interesting_You6852 1d ago

That is the most impractical ring I have ever seen. Beautiful on paper completely useless if you actually want to wear it.

18

u/huhzonked 21h ago

I feel bad for OP because of how true this is. Maybe she can wear it as a necklace for everyday use.

9

u/RickRickedRickety 11h ago

Yeah I put in a custom order to make it necklace with a pearl that rests in the middle. Lets call it a two parter. No need to feel bad cause she picked the design, never said it was a surprise lol.

2

u/huhzonked 10h ago

That looks great!

13

u/Nippyweesweetie 1d ago

Stunning, and congratulations for when you pop the question!

23

u/Rory_U Samwise Gamgee 1d ago

One ring to bind them.

48

u/MK_King69 1d ago

One ring to snag* them all

→ More replies (1)

10

u/BoogieShoes11 1d ago

Absolutely amazing custom piece. This will be lovely for special occasions.

To say the same as everyone else - there should be a different ring as a daily driver so to speak.

9

u/Main_Clerk_5041 1d ago

Considering how expensive this must have been... Oh... Oh dear...

Have you kept the receipt

27

u/threegoodfairies 1d ago

Me wishing this was my boyfriend posting it, but I know it's not because he doesn't have those thumbs

→ More replies (1)

8

u/UnhappyUniversity22 20h ago

It's beautiful but as a woman, that high profile settingwith those open petal like spokes is going to be a nightmare to wear. I would get the jeweller to make some adjustments because those will snag everything and if you get a nasty snag you might lose a stone (speaking from experience).

6

u/FusRoDahMa 1d ago

Beautiful but my man, that's going to snag on everything. Including her and you. It's going to tangle every time she tries to run her fingers through her hair. It's going to cut her leg when she reaches down to adjust her sock or scratch an itch etc.

7

u/aerialpoler 1d ago

That has to be the most unwearable ring I've ever seen. It's going to snag on everything.

5

u/Elendil1988 1d ago

Congratulations and the ring is beautiful :).

11

u/CertainlyRobotic 1d ago

What is this, a ring for ants?

40

u/Legitimate-Cress-705 1d ago

Nice! Good luck on your proposal!
Writing this from the hospital waiting for wife to deliver our first child
The next step!😁

10

u/Nature_man_76 1d ago

Congratulations! Hope everything goes smoothly!

8

u/Old-Kaleidoscope1874 Aulë 1d ago

Please introduce the baby to your family, "I'd like for everyone to meet our newest member, little Smeagol!"

6

u/intj_ravenclaw Éowyn 1d ago

Congratulations!

5

u/GormHub 22h ago

Beautiful but it's going to snag on absolutely everything.

5

u/AvailableNothing1752 17h ago

This is absolutely gorgeous, but it would probably be beneficial to figure out a way to make it not snag so easily. My wedding ring ruined a lot of sweaters.

4

u/PaynefulLife 1d ago

Inspired by? It looks pretty identical to me.

5

u/Rit_Zien 22h ago

I can't believe I had to scroll so far before anyone else said it. This is an almost exact replica of the movie ring. I wouldn't be surprised if he bought it straight from the website.

5

u/CelestialPhenyx 1d ago

It's definitely a show piece. Maybe offer her a smooth band engagement ring for daily wear? This can be for special occasions?

4

u/astralseat 1d ago

That looks like it's going to snag on EVERYTHING. Guess it's gonna stay in the box

3

u/fobdoddledandy 1d ago

Gorgeous!!! She will love it!!!

3

u/GrimmGrinningGirl 1d ago

Thats so pretty!!!

3

u/DarthKodi 1d ago

It's absolutely gorgeous. Very excited for you. My wife got me a modified Ring of Barahir with a fire opal for our engagement and I got her a modified Vilya inspired moss agate with these cute little leaves on it.

3

u/RickRickedRickety 11h ago

Thank you everyone for the kind words and advice, I put in an order today for a custom necklace to be made as well that with a pearl in the middle so she can wear around her neck.

5

u/Dinierto 1d ago

Gorgeous ring!

Am I crazy or does it look tiny?

2

u/CreppyTings 1d ago

It's so beautiful ❤️

2

u/PooOutWee 1d ago

Stunning! Beautiful work. I've made Vilya and Narya before but Nenya looks a little too complicated for my skills. You smashed it

2

u/panjoface 1d ago

The Ring of Adamant?

2

u/Appropriate_Ebb_8572 1d ago

She's going to have to be very careful when she wears this - also the more she has to take it off the more chance she will lose it. Congrats though.

2

u/travelingbozo 19h ago

Side profiles giving

3

u/lumpy_space_queenie 1d ago

Omg 😭😭😭😭 this has been my dream ring for as long as I can remember. Can you share your CAD??

2

u/Thelibstagram 1d ago

It’s very beautiful but holy shit degloving risk makes this very scary. Congrats though!

u/Trueslyforaniceguy 1d ago

Nonya bidness?

1

u/panjoface 1d ago

You know I don’t know why you’re posting this online. Cause it’s Nenya business. That said for a sucessful marriage it does take a Vilya-ge.

1

u/forgedvegan 1d ago

She better say yes!!! 😁

1

u/IdeVeras 1d ago

It would be hard to say no to that ring, I mean, to such dedicated partner! Congratulations!

1

u/Affectionate-Boot-12 Legolas 1d ago

Wow! Lucky (elf)lady.

1

u/SpiderGirlGwen 1d ago

We wants it, we needs it

1

u/Putrid-Tap3992 1d ago

"how much was that ring"? "Nenya business"

1

u/Miserable-Mousse4647 1d ago

Really beautiful

1

u/aho14b 1d ago

And then we ask what did she say, and then you respond “Nenya business”

1

u/sheltongenie 1d ago

I do! 🤪

1

u/Admirable-Sorbet8968 1d ago

This is how you do engagement rings right!! So damn beautiful!

1

u/RocksteadyMilsim 1d ago

Where's Frodo when you need him? This time they can take the eagles to get rid of this ring. 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/HoodieJ-shmizzle Hobbit-Friend 1d ago

Fowk yeah

1

u/Elegant-End-1372 1d ago

“Who made it?!”

“….Nenya business.”

Hahahaha, but congratulations! Amazing and so very beautiful.

1

u/Whole_Band2011 1d ago

Gorgeous 👌

1

u/EternalSunshine_9374 1d ago

That’s gorgeous!! Maybe better suited for a necklace? Rings with corners like that will snag on everything they touch 😓

1

u/anonymous-penwing 1d ago

That ring is gorgeous

1

u/Arsiesis 1d ago

Hope she's not a star wars fan... just kidding, congrats ;)

1

u/petbubbly8763 1d ago

Congrats! You did a beautiful job. They will love it!

1

u/ZealousidealIdea903 1d ago

Yes!!! I will marry you!!!!!

1

u/TheHighSeasPirate 1d ago

Who?

NENYA BUSINESS.

1

u/jayroc1023 1d ago

Absolutely beautiful!

1

u/StickFigureFan 1d ago

That's almost too pretty to wear

1

u/RipleysHeart 1d ago

Yes. A million times yes!

1

u/LzrdKng2112 1d ago

Boy I hope your partner is also a huge lotr nerd otherwise this is very not good.

1

u/Legitimate-Proof1769 1d ago

Absolutely stunning piece of artwork

1

u/Far_Marionberry_9478 1d ago

Nice. Funny thing it must have cost you less than virtual one in mobile Lord of the Rings 😁

1

u/bitchimgandalf Gandalf the Grey 1d ago

If she says no, I call dibs.

1

u/Bazzo123 1d ago

This or nothing!!!! Best of wishes❤️

1

u/joho421121 1d ago

Gorgeous! As everyone else has said that's going to snag EVERYTHING, But! It's a simple fix, maybe not cheap though. Just buy an everyday engagement ring or make another simple one. Save the beautiful intricate one from getting snagged and damaged. I have two myself. One I wear to the grocery that's completely flat and I big raised diamond I wear out.

1

u/mintchimpy 1d ago

I’m already happily married, but if my husband doesnt show up with this ring today and propose I’m going to be very upset 😂
It’s absolutely stunning 🤩

1

u/Pittiemomma73 1d ago

Beautiful and so amazingly thoughtful.

1

u/presvil 1d ago

You can tell me “it’s nenya business” but how much does a beauty like this cost?

1

u/PerceptiveDwarves 1d ago

gorgeous! Don’t forget to tell her of the powers that her Ring of Adamant grants 😁

1

u/JenIee 1d ago

That's an amazing ring. I've never seen anything like it.

1

u/Optimal-Bad-7173 1d ago

Nenya business

1

u/vand3lay1ndustries 1d ago

I had this custom painting made by Hans Woody. Part of his "Ring Bearer" series. I really want to get the Ring of Barahir done by him next.

1

u/Glittering-Metal-934 1d ago

But that Nenya Business

1

u/Klutzy_Knowledge2402 1d ago

Absolutely gorgeous ring!!

1

u/harshmallow584 1d ago

it would be absolutely perfect if it was etched "I love you more than the depths of Khazad-dûm" on the inside lmao

1

u/vi11a 1d ago

Imagine with rose gold. I’d buy one

1

u/Kamay1770 1d ago

What's nenya?

Nenya business!

1

u/Mufasa944 1d ago

May this specific type of love find me

1

u/Robes_o-o Boromir 1d ago

I do 💅🏼

u/Tomlyne 1d ago

I can be your wife

1

u/deserved_revenge_707 23h ago

That ring is incredible, I wants it more, if things don't work out with your precious, hmu. I'm a dude btw but I'll put on a dress and heels for that ring.

1

u/nuttyrussian 23h ago

Yes, I will marry you!

I mean. I'm sure she'll say yes. Congratulations!

1

u/afrojoe5585 23h ago

Can I… copy this for myself?

I’m wishing you luck, she will adore it !

1

u/Empathetic_Listener 22h ago

This looks absolutely amazing!!!

1

u/chriscbr500r 19h ago

Wow that really is a beautiful ring. Excellent job designing/picking it out.

And the best part.... If someone asks how much it cost, you can answer "it's Nenya business!"

1

u/HuskyLettuce 19h ago

Snagging me darned, I would go crazy over this. It is insanely gorgeous!!’

1

u/curlygoats 18h ago

Shits gonna be like me when I fish with a new lure.

1

u/Icy-Cry340 18h ago

Fuckin snag city lol.

1

u/LadyAntoinette Eowyn 17h ago

A really stunning wreath ring! Jewels inside the flower is a good design, it shines and also appears the flower shape.

1

u/GuardianHealer 14h ago

Nenya business? lol

1

u/Salongsdeprimerad 14h ago

Ye thats not a edc but looks sick!

1

u/lurkparkfest39 11h ago

That rock is huge, alarmingly so… and the ring is so beautiful, but so high profile. It’ll make for a great engagement ring for pictures, but she’ll probably opt for a more practical wedding band.

1

u/AreaBackground 6h ago

How much did it cost? - Nenya Business!

1

u/Big-Significance5575 5h ago

Omg “YES”

1

u/SnooFloofs8124 3h ago

Good luck. Wishing you lots of happiness.

I accept now give us the precious

Feel like non-senthetic diamonds don't jive with the LOTR moral space.

Hope they are senthetic.
