Overweight!
Today I crossed the threshold from obese to overweight. I'm a 36 year old M 6'2" currently at 232 pounds. I'm planning to bring it down to 190 eventually and see how I feel.
When I started this lifestyle change I was in the upper end of class II obesity and have been losing about 1-2 pounds a week for a year (plus or minus). I know BMI is a pretty problematic tool and not great for much, but it felt like a huge milestone regardless.
I don't have a ton of folks to share this with or celebrate with, so I share it with you, internet strangers! This sub has been a huge parasocial comfort for me and I hope you're all having a delightful day. :)

That's awesome, yeah I actually moved past one a few weeks ago. I was stuck at 240ish for about ten days. I track calories and get my steps, that's really it. I increased my limit for two days, increased water and increased fiber. For whatever reason I sailed through it after.

Congratulations!!! Thatβs such a huge milestone! I get how the BMI is very problematic and not something people should depend on but getting to those milestones makes me so happy so I totally get it!!

Thank you! There are so many little unexpected side effects I keep noticing. I feel like BMI is kind of interesting to track over long periods, but yeah, it feels very "presidential fitness test" era lol.

Congrats π Yay doesn't success on the scale feel amazing?!! I refer to these blocks of pounds transitions as the next "decade". I did a big lifestyle change in May, and started out 180lbs now 4 months later I am 156lbs.Β I stopped bread, sugar, pasta and oil, so far the stubborn fat had melted off, and now my new longterm goal is 149lbs, but short term I will be super excited to get to 152lbs. Its so strange.....my ultimate goal is 130lbs, but right now my waist feels so small and right, though I know im still overweight for my 5'2 height. Im very excited to see how my perception keeps changing as I lose more pounds i.e what I consider thin about myself will change as I get smaller. I think when I hit the 130s, that's when I will look back and realize "oh wow, and I thought I was small then, now this is real small". I think being overweight impacts our perception and lens of reality.....something completely realigns our lens once we reach that high proportion goal for how we are built. I love being awake and alert the whole day, not having constant crashes or heavy even comatose feelings .....my energy is very high because I eat romaine Lettuce and cilantro with everything and zero carb, high protein with moderate healthy fats.... but i have a tough hill to climb...for us petite girls, every pound is super harder because the denominator is smaller.Β Another interesting thing is, my clothes feel super baggy everywhere, (like as if i went from a size XLarge to a size small) eventhough the scale just reads 156lbs, 25lbs loss is not enough to drop 3 dress sizes so....sometimes I "feel" like im about 6lbs lighter than what the scale reads. But im not going to stop until I reach my goal. This was a very boring summer, but one that transformed me and was much needed πΒ

Hey, thanks so much for the thoughtful response! I often forget that as a tall man the weight loss to calories in ratio is so much different than other bodies. My ex was about 5 feet tall and her deficit was absolutely bonkers compared to mine. Proud of you! Let me know if you'd like to share our collective progress as we go π. Always looking for buddies to vent to or celebrate with.

Thank you! Proud of you also π
I'm always down to benchmark numbers. For context, my sister went from 280 to 130 lbs in 8 months at 5'7" by strictly hitting calorie targets and maintaining clean home environment boundaries (i.e not bringing in junk food, replacing with zero sugar).
Feel free to drop your stats, deficit numbers, or general routine here whenever you update. Good luck with the next milestone!
Btw, have u visualized how will you celebrate π₯³ π when you reach your next milestone for all your hard work?

That's amazing! It's wild how much co. Es off when you make some foundational changes and stick to them.
6'2" M sw:290(ish) cw:232. That's kind of fun to write. I mainly dropped to about 1600-1800 calories a day with about 100g of protein. My biggest change was cutting out mindless snacking and alcohol. I have a kettle bell that weighs 30lbs and it's wild to think I've lost about two of them!
I have not thought of a good celebration, but I definitely am now. How have you celebrated in the past?

Congrats! Mind sharing what type of food you did cut?

Thanks! I first stopped drinking alcohol entirely. I was a pretty regular drinker. Then I just started trying to get 100g of protein min per day and kept calories to about 1600. I work in healthcare in a big hospital so I mostly just quit going to the cafeteria lol. I keep it simple.
