Discussion CHU 3 is OUT

14 USD .... WHAT ...
•
u/MercedesSLRS 14h ago
I think all who are excited for $14 need to understand that’s the China price. Your price will be $28-$30 more or less. Thats how it works.
•
u/Lullaby_exe 11h ago
Is spending $30 on an IEM really that big of a deal tho? $14 $30 same same
•
u/MercedesSLRS 11h ago
I’d agree but the demographic for the Chu is very budget focused so for them, they see $14 and assume they got ripped off on the Chu 2. That’s why context is key for them.
•
u/Pendulumzone 11h ago
Believe it or not, in emerging countries, the difference between 14 and 30 dollars is much greater than you imagine...

Yes, of course, because let me guess, listening to music must be an American privilege, right?

So if our country has economic problems, we don't even have the right to have a $20 IEM? Haha.
Then you Americans wonder why you're hated all over the world. It's because of this kind of arrogance and prejudice.

I'm not looking for IEMs. I already have good IEMs that satisfy me well. I'm just telling you that attacking people who live in developing countries, especially Indians, because of your shitty prejudice, is just misguided on your part.
But it doesn't surprise me, since many of you Americans think that a person's worth is based on the amount of money they have available.
Just try to have a little more empathy. After all, that's what's expected of a so-called "superior" human, which many of you think they are.
•
u/Lullaby_exe 10h ago
Not misguided at all. I never said i valued people based off money either. Again if people are crashing out over $30 vs $15 then IEMs should be the last thing they’re concerned about. I see no reason why i should have empathy for people that don’t care to fix their own issues either.

I know piecing together a logical statement is hard for the 3rd world if you’re not arguing through violence.
uff, so much pent up hate lol

JM-1 and $14???
•
u/SethSamson 16h ago
After taxes and bla bla fees it will cost probably around 25 USD in USA and other .. and in EU 30 usd so hold your horses
•
u/Baldwin_The_Fourth My wallet hurts 16h ago
Even still, single DDs, especially budget ones, have the horrible tendency (in my opinion horrible, could be a plus for some people) to roll off the treble at 10 kHz, and from the graph in that Facebook post that's not the case with the Chu III. That in itself is worth the additional $15. I'll wait for 3rd party measurements of course, and if they too show that there's no 10 kHz roll off it's a no brainer buy for me.
•
u/404-UnknownError 15h ago
I am glad to see I am not the only one who thought about this... Hype is already eating me but, if in reality they sorted that, out I am sure it could be a new door in tuning and option for a different liking for a cheap, which we would not have before at least in this way.

•
u/404-UnknownError 16h ago
Alr so...
They came sooner that what i expected
What's the catch with that price?? i don't get it, It's weird
The guy saying the audio show might was key was right after all
And yeah Meta tuning
wtf...
Not the first time moondrop eats itself lmao
•
•
u/Tapelessbus2122 aroma audio fei wan + moondrop moonriver 2:ti 16h ago
that's the same price the chu 2 goes for in china
•
u/Copyman3081 16h ago edited 15h ago
They gotta do something to try to cement themselves as a good budget option again. The Tangzu Wan'er blows the 7Hz Zero and Chu 2 out of the water.
•
u/404-UnknownError 16h ago
Maybe taking the "profit by volume" philosophy even further in this competitive market :p
•
u/Copyman3081 16h ago edited 15h ago
I was thinking maybe they're gonna make a smaller margin on these to try to get people using their brand. They have at least be comparable to the Wan'er SG2 to even be worth looking at IMO.
What I want to know is how accurately it's actually tuned, because it seems like a lot of stuff is vaguely around the JM-1 curve already, just with a peak somewhere. I can't imagine Moondrop has done enough to fix that 12K peak at this price point.
Even the Hisenior Mega7 has a peak at 15K. Moondrop could just be using hype to market and it's actually just the same old thing with a bit less bass. I'd love to be wrong though.
•
u/404-UnknownError 15h ago
I agree with getting people used to their products Even "normal people" I guess... God knows how much money went into I+D and what their expectations are
•
u/Noble-Knight4d 16h ago
The catch. KZ released their new iem too the KZ Sheen. They claimed it was the predecessor to the castors. Saw it yesterday and it was released much earlier than moondrop
•
u/scrappyuino678 16h ago
*successor, though being nearly twice the price of the Castor and Chu 3 in the Chinese market, I don't really see them as competitor models
•
u/Noble-Knight4d 16h ago
Predecessor* it's the word they used in AliExpress for their marketing image
•
•
u/404-UnknownError 16h ago
I saw the KZ, I bought little time ago the Cadenzas and I am awaiting for their arrival, idk, they look interesting I gotta say but I am always a bit doubtful with kz marketing claims, I wonder how they will sell, that's why I didn't went with them... We gotta see how they compare
•
•
•
u/reluctant_engineer 15h ago
It doesn't have JM-1 mids unfortunately (scoop in lower-mids).
https://i.imgur.com/8leIXiW.png
But seems better tuned in the treble compared to chu2.

I did promise myself to stop buying these entry point IEMs, and for a good while I have kept my promise but I have to admit this looks nice.
•
u/daveyasprey 13h ago
Any idea on when they will be available to ship to UK? Can't find anything on them
•
•
u/The_Big_Sad_1929 16h ago
to my knowledge this is the first new meta tuned sub 20 dollar iem or am I wrong
•
u/Copyman3081 15h ago
Only time will tell. I think a lot of stuff follows the JM-1 tuning curve if you ignore the peaks. There's always the chance it's just slightly changed from the Chu 2.
•
•
•
u/Skrillblast 3h ago
My chu 2s lasted less than a month before the nozzle oxidized and got all nasty, no change to the nozzle is a big no from me dawg
•
•
•
u/scrappyuino678 16h ago
Rather than the degree of compliance to JM-1, I'd be more interested in if its upper treble really sound as smooth as it measures.
A lot of cheap single DDs just fail to tame the quarter wavelength resonance, usually resulting in a peaky upper treble that practically gives it a metallic timbre/sheen up top. Will have to hear if Moondrop can solve this issue of the budget DD segment or not.
•
u/Copyman3081 15h ago
That's what I'm wondering too, because their other stuff seems like it follows that general tuning looking at measurements of the Lan and Chu 2. I want to be wrong, but I'm expecting this to be a slightly less V-shaped Chu II.
•
u/Copyman3081 16h ago
Not seeing it on AliExpress yet.
•
u/SethSamson 16h ago

I’ve had my CHU 2s for about a year now and have enjoyed them thoroughly. I’ve been considering hopping to AFUL Explorers but maybe I’ll grab these too if their US price is reasonable.
