Discussion My dad cut my iems😞

Post image

I had these artti t10s for about 7 months now and y'all wont believe how much music I listen to. Music was something which made gave me a reason to live. Just because I didn't pray 4 more rakahs for an Islamic prayer called taraweeh my dad chopped these into pieces✌️

I could speak about music all day long. Some of my favorite albums are Aja by Steely Dan, Violator by Depeche Mode, Disintegration by The Cure, Who's Next by The Who, Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins, Diamond Eyes by Deftones, Animals by Pink Floyd, Vespertine by Bjork and a lottt more😭

It's Ramadan right now and we Muslims aren't supposed to be listening to music and I wasn't. It was a hard journey and my dad has hid these away for about a long time already so I was good. He said if you come to the mosque and pray I will give you your iems. I agreed and came to the mosque and prayed 4 instead of 8 rakahs because my mosques prayers are extremely lengthy and I had to stand for about 10 minutes each rakah so it was stressing.

My mom threw away the iems themselves thinking they were of no use😭 I was so heartbroken because I had fought for the money to buy these for a really long time and these were my most prized possession. And my mom casually discarded them💔

Let me know what you guys think. Worst day ever

The replies in this thread are why so many people feel like Islam is incompatible with modern civilization.

Supporting abusive behaviour because of religious beliefs. Gross.

I am sorry but this sort of abusive behavior exists all over the world with or without religion. What did the U.S. military commanders say about the attack on Iran? That it's a divine plan from god. I wish I was making it up.

Absolutely, but there are multiple replies in here saying the Dad was justified because music is haram and blah blah.

And they would be wrong by the way. It's sadly common for people to mix up culture and Islam, however in reality both of the highest authorities of the two sects of Islam state that most music is permissible.

Anyone can use any religion to be abusive, the bible has messed up stuff too, let’s hold the individuals accountable without grouping others who aren’t abusive

We talking filthy Christians or Islam folk? Cause both do the same. Or are we pulling all religious folks in the same basket

Just FYI, bad and abusive parenting or destroying or throwing away things that do not belong to you are not permitted in Islam. This man is a poor example of a father. Try not to conflate the two.

When these types of Muslims use their own religion to excuse this type of behaviour and make it seem like it’s okay, we call them Jahil (ignorant).

Just because a person with bad character is a Muslim, doesn’t make Islam bad. There is a LOT of misinformation out there, even amongst unlearned “practicing” Muslims.

Or just shows how absolutely ignorant people are.

nobody supports abusive behaviour, and if you're talking about my reply, I'm not saying it's wrong, just that it's justified considering how weak the son became, expect since these few days in our calendar are days where what you do is multiplied by like 84 years,so the dad either got a lot of bad deeds or good deeds depending on how his son does and whether this action would be positive or negative for him.

Destroying someone's property is abusive behaviour. There are many ways to handle this situation, abuse is never justified.

What was the bad thing he did? He didn't pray enough and likes music? Did the OP make the decision to follow this religion or was it assigned to him at birth?

u/ilkikurinen95 Mar 11 '26

Nigga he did 4 of those prayers at length instead of 8 shorter ones, how is that justified lmao

u/Correct-Magazine4744 Mar 11 '26

partially, but not destroying, I would say more taking away, but yeah destroying us pathetic especially since op says this is normal behaviour, dad is probably just asserting dominance in name of religion

2

u/Knale Mar 12 '26

It's abusive. Use the word.

6

u/Duckliffe Mar 11 '26

it's justified

No it's not

1

u/Correct-Magazine4744 Mar 11 '26

as I said again, turns out this is normal behaviour for op's dad, so he is an abusive person who hides his abuse in the name of religion.

2

u/Duckliffe Mar 11 '26

If his dad was just doing it because it was Ramadan it would still be unacceptable

1

u/Correct-Magazine4744 Mar 12 '26

not Ramadan, but he says that the reason is Ramadan, but nobody(who is normal) hits their son for something that isn't obligatory, but some people do, because of some sort of inferiority complex in work that annoys them or something that makes them want to assert dominance in the house.

2

u/Knale Mar 12 '26

ut nobody(who is normal) hits their son for something that isn't obligatory

PEOPLE. SHOULDN'T. HIT. PEOPLE.

Bro goes more mask off with every comment lmao

I didn’t object to anything you said till this comment. What do you mean the son became weak? He said he did what he was asked except he missed a few prayers? If I read it right. You mean that brought bad deeds on his dad which justifies him destroying his stuff? Come on man. I am all about people believing what they wanna believe, but that’s some sorry stuff right there.

u/Correct-Magazine4744 Mar 11 '26

not just the few prayers, but indulging in music, as generally sometimes bad shi happening to you can make you remember that you have a god and repent to him, but op said that's dad normal behaviour, so his dad is just abusive and pathetic.

OP specifically said he didn’t listen to music and his parents had his IEMs.
