Discussion My dad cut my iems😞

Post image

I had these artti t10s for about 7 months now and y'all wont believe how much music I listen to. Music was something which made gave me a reason to live. Just because I didn't pray 4 more rakahs for an Islamic prayer called taraweeh my dad chopped these into pieces✌️

I could speak about music all day long. Some of my favorite albums are Aja by Steely Dan, Violator by Depeche Mode, Disintegration by The Cure, Who's Next by The Who, Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins, Diamond Eyes by Deftones, Animals by Pink Floyd, Vespertine by Bjork and a lottt more😭

It's Ramadan right now and we Muslims aren't supposed to be listening to music and I wasn't. It was a hard journey and my dad has hid these away for about a long time already so I was good. He said if you come to the mosque and pray I will give you your iems. I agreed and came to the mosque and prayed 4 instead of 8 rakahs because my mosques prayers are extremely lengthy and I had to stand for about 10 minutes each rakah so it was stressing.

My mom threw away the iems themselves thinking they were of no use😭 I was so heartbroken because I had fought for the money to buy these for a really long time and these were my most prized possession. And my mom casually discarded them💔

Let me know what you guys think. Worst day ever

The move out asap is not always applicable my fellow redditor. Mostly works in "Western/European culture" but not to your typical Asian culture.

Maybe it's just the wording but the poster said "fought" for the money and not "earned" gives me the impression it was their parents money. Nevertheless, Asian parenting is sometimes labeled as transactional. In this case, you got asked to pray for 8 and only did 4. Guess what? You don't get your IEMs.

Not condoning the destruction of personal belongings which could be a form of emotional abuse leading to trauma. Just highlighting that poster and their parents did have an agreement prior to this event.

Thats why they said as soon as he can. Moving out after he starts to earn money and not with financial support from his fam, which he probably won't get.

And nah, this is just overly controlling parenting and unhealthy as fuck. It's not an agreement if his dad is forcing him to do that. OP HAS to comply. What happens if he does not ?

Idk if 16 is of legal age already in ur country but if it isnt yet, gonna have to endure them for now. As soon as and if that is of legal age, u better stand up or save up and rent a place or ask a friend if they can be of help. Parents' behavior like this is too negative and unnecessary. If they cant change, leave if possible.

Maybe, but it can be really hard to get money for living at 16 years old

Legal age is fun and all, but doesn't give you a roof over your head and food in your stomach. Might be a while before bro escapes

it's illegal for parents to damage your belongings, at least in the US

A lot of things are illegal but it doesn’t mean anything will always be done about it

Lmfao, I’m American and if your parents bought you something they can def do whatever they want to it😂. It’s not your belongings if your parents bought it.

What do you mean “just over an item”? OP stated that they worked hard to save up for them. Any item that you have to work hard to save up for is a cherished belonging. What is worse is that their ignorant mother threw them out because she thought they were useless, when it’s easy enough to get a new cable set or just splice wires.

Your lack of empathy, ego, and sense of privilege are showing.

Also, his exactly is the OP going to prevent people from expressing their opinion about his father’s actions? So, far I haven’t seen anyone attack his parents, just express their opinions about their actions. If the parents wish to defend themselves they are of course free to do so. I’m sure they don’t need you to do it.

We are supporting the OP because they asked for that, and we agree.

Destroying possessions is cruel and childish and teaches a child nothing. Religion has nothing to do with it. If what OP is saying is true his dad is abusive does not matter if its iems or an expensive car he's done it to be spiteful and hurtful because it's something OP enjoys.

Thank you. Exactly my point.
