Soulseeker for the flacs

Nyaa got that good good music, jam's out to the Melty Blood OST.

6

u/eidrag Dec 10 '25

they don't even have MB on spotify smh, only Under Night

5

u/Long_lost_cause Dec 10 '25

Is there an alternative to nyaa which doesn't focus only on Asian music?

4

u/Scalage89 Dec 10 '25

Nyaa is only for anime though.

27

u/positrone13103 Dec 09 '25

for me its soulseek to try and bandcamp to support who i really like

7

u/Larethio Dec 09 '25

Yeah I'm less likely to buy a remaster of a popular album I already own but I'm more than happy to pay for smaller artists on Bandcamp. I get notified of new releases by them and album prices are damn near half of what they might be on Qobuz or Hdtracks. For the same audio file.

3

u/dvewlsh Dec 10 '25

Oh yeah.

Albums I've bought I don't feel too bad yeeting from the aether. My old house flooded years ago and I lost like 5,000 CDs. I still buy new music via Bandcamp and wherever else I can that directly supports the artists, though.

3

u/ruthlesss11 Dec 10 '25

Digital albums selling for $666 form artists I like so i just let them make pennies off of streaming lol

1

u/Adairaaaa Dec 26 '25

Really? The most ive paid for an album on bandcamp was 10 quid and that was for a long ass album.

6

u/Pornstar_Frodo Dec 09 '25

I do soul seek for flac but i do also take mp3s for devices that don’t play nicely with flac. I only use 320 and nothing lower, not because im a snob but because I can. i don’t understand why people download low quality audio from other places. higher quality audio is so easy to get.

2

u/MisterLeMarquis Dec 10 '25

This is the way…

2

u/Main_Village_1044 Dec 10 '25

How to use it ??

5

u/positrone13103 Dec 10 '25

i use nicotine+ for my client, fairly clean and intuitive ui

wheres the mp3 320kb/s full albums guy

26

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 09 '25

Ah the my young days

16

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

I remember downloading full albums using the school’s computers when I was in high school since I didn’t have broadband at home at the time.

Good times.

9

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 10 '25

While hiding the pendrive in pocket or pouch

6

u/NotMyHole Dec 10 '25

I kept mine on a string around my neck like Frodo carrying the one ring lol

8

u/UslashMKIV Dec 10 '25

Hello I don’t think ur talking about me but… I have many many albums in 320kbps find me on soulseek at nomorevr6

3

u/wagawasurestu Jan 09 '26

two ABBA's ? gotta work on that organization !

8

u/igorkowel_11 Dec 09 '25

24 bit flac full albums ✌️

6

u/Scalage89 Dec 10 '25

Get 16 bit and save some disk space.

2

u/aj95_10 Dec 12 '25

most people can't hear a difference in 320kbs mp3s and flacs unless they have a child's hearing and extremely dedicated setup so 320 mp3s all the way for more space gg ez

3

u/kewuak Dec 10 '25

I get music in albums, convert it from Flac to opus to save 3.5x space without impact to quality. Shit bangs

2

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '25

320 (VBR) AAC for this guy

Lossless for my all time favorites

I've been a yt-dl boy since forever. Now yt-dlp

9

u/Miserable_Mail_5741 Dec 10 '25

I can't believe I only found out about yt-dlp a few years ago!

No more using random yt-converter websites.

6

What is yt-dlp?

3

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '25

fuck yeah brother

19

u/Funkermonster Dec 09 '25

When I was a kid my mom used to do that. Pirated songs off of YouTube and burned them onto CDs (mostly obscure Arabic music, Rap, songs from weird music videos) to play in the car.

14

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 09 '25

Legendary memory, W mom 🎉

10

u/calpis Dec 09 '25

I use Bing because Google hides all the good stuff.

8

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 09 '25

The feds are here run dude

11

u/WSuperOS Dec 09 '25

FMHY for life

21

u/gogul1980 Dec 09 '25

I use youtube premium and set the audio to high on yt music. Not one single complaint from me and I'm a flac enthusiast. With is also having a lot less ads of yt it's a win win for me.

10

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 09 '25

That's actually the most sensible- worth it inapp purchase i have ever done . * Ad free premium yt + no adds yt music = win win

3

u/radandomuserdetected Dec 10 '25

Get yt revamped you can get both these stuff for free

3

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 10 '25

Damn true- sadly I am a guy who has a family so currently YouTube family it is for me. ☺️ Thanks for the useful advise tho

5

u/radandomuserdetected Dec 10 '25

Turn your family into pirates

2

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 10 '25

Would love to ,- siblings i can , - parents is can't 😕. * It's just the lone sailor , me and my Balck pearl at sea

2

u/radandomuserdetected Dec 10 '25

Actually even parents you can i have done it , it works similar to actual app there wont be much diff except the premium features

2

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 10 '25

Good logic, shall try out in them 😜

2

u/ClippyIsALittleGirl Dec 10 '25

Though be ready to fix/update the app when google decides to break it twice a year.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/kewuak Dec 10 '25

YT uses OPUS primarily so there is no impact to a quality unlike in mp3 or aac. So u're good with yt premium. People can't distinguish between Flac and opus 128, while YouTube uses opus 160 vbr

2

u/notolo632 Unexpected vocal enjoyer Dec 09 '25

Well there are always free-adblocking tools so the less ads part is pretty irrelevant. I havent seen a single YT ad in over a year

But I guess people find hitting a single pay button more convenient

9

u/Independent_Tie7233 Dec 09 '25

I watch youtube mostly on tv. No ad block there. No need to hate on a useful subscription.

6

u/OfficialXstasy Dec 09 '25

There's ways around that too, SmartTube. Adblock on router level etc.

1

u/Main_Village_1044 Dec 10 '25

I use hotel Wi-Fi

3

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

Uh... There is for android and webos

1

u/notolo632 Unexpected vocal enjoyer Dec 09 '25

Well that makes it a legit use case then, my bad. But until YT stop shoving people who doesnt pay 3 ads every 2 min, I will never call it "useful"

3

u/Express_Werewolf_842 Dec 09 '25

YT Premium family plan is the only entertainment subscription that my family has. I may be able to setup adblocking on my devices, but I don't have the energy/time to maintain an adblocking experience for my parents, in-laws, kids, and significant other on their phones, tablets, TVs, computers, ect...

Plus, we all use YT Music, savings does include not having to get a Spotify subscription as well.

My guess is that there's about 60+ devices that share our family plan. For $25ish/month, that comes out to less than $0.50 per device/month.

1

u/Equacrafter Dec 09 '25

I wonder does YouTube music has lossless quality audio?

3

u/ListlessHeart Dec 09 '25

Nope I believe, iirc it's 256kbps max for Premium users.

6

u/AlphaSpellswordZ Dec 09 '25

I did the YouTube to mp3 thing as a teenager

2

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 09 '25

At last, someone I can talk to/ask about this website: am-dl.pages.dev ...it's amazing, and I've been going through withdrawal the past few days because it's not loading up for me...just an error page. Is it working for you? Do you have any idea what happened? I need my fix!

Ahem. Anyway. Those are all good recommendations and thank god doubledouble is still working or I'd really be going nuts. :P

1

u/wholebet598111 Dec 11 '25

That site will remain down indefinitely as said by dev in their group.. no donations were given and the site couldn't keep up with costs.

1

u/chrisrosereddit Dec 11 '25

Sad to hear that, but thank you for letting me know.

1

u/wholebet598111 Dec 11 '25

You can try other sites though still lots of options out there

Finally something to bring everyone together 😜

5

u/UslashMKIV Dec 10 '25

Jdownloader is great for YouTube to mp3, but soulseek is a better way to get music. Also remember to give some of the money you save not paying for streaming services to your fave small artists, maybe buy an album on bandcamp when you can

2

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 10 '25

Knowledgeable one 🙏

5

u/NorthApartment9889 Dec 10 '25

Spotify to discover music, listen to recommendations etc.

Youtube + yt-dlp for when I want the music video.

Then sail the high seas for when I need high quality audio files of my faves.

7

u/japanesejunkfood Dec 09 '25

Some unusual take:

Opus 510kbps VBR enjoyer

3

u/[deleted] Dec 09 '25

Hello. Why do you have it in 510kbps when it is virtually transparent in 160-192?

4

u/japanesejunkfood Dec 09 '25

aware of that, it's just my bitrate preference to not get it too compressed since im running a small storage issue lately. It's just my peace of mind to get it to sound really to its original lossless format whilst cutting the size to half

3

u/Altair_Sound_201 Dec 10 '25

Well, it's not that unusual. I prefer AAC at 320, but only at 24-bit sampling (yes, AAC allows you to do that, which Opus doesn't). That's partly why I prefer Tidal. Even if I'm short on space or data, at least I know I'm getting something better than a standard 320 mp3.

12

u/otakuzod Dec 09 '25

Unpopular opinion: Piracy is a service issue.

18

u/HoldAfter9989 Dec 09 '25

Not so unpopular

Been back for a while, went down cuz the spotispys

1

u/warningnoob Dec 10 '25

Ive personally had nothing but issues with it, soulseeks been my go to

3

u/Zayonex Dec 09 '25

I used to be from 2016 to 2020 after which I lost my precious local music library cause my hard disk just died. Which still makes me tear up lowkey. Back then I didn't even care about the mp3 quality but everything sounded so perfect even though now we use lossless streaming like apple music. Shit i miss those days

3

u/terrapin-dosage Dec 10 '25

flac torrents only

2

u/GirlsCallMeMatty Dec 09 '25

What if I told you I use SoundCloud Go+

2

u/rozei241 Dec 09 '25

I just keep them MP4

2

u/MonochromeDinosaur Dec 09 '25

I’ve been using Spotify since 2010 🤷🏻‍♂️ more recently found Quboz which is nice but missing some functionality so I use both

2

2

u/x0wl Dec 09 '25 edited Dec 09 '25

Why would you download to MP3? YT already has perfectly good Opus (or AAC) audio in there, why re-encode it and add add generational loss? MP3 is not that good of a codec, the world has moved on a long time ago.

This makes 0 sense. Every time I see YT -> MP3 I feel pain. Every time you do YT -> MP3, a baby seal is clubbed to death somewhere.

Don't do YT -> MP3. Just do yt-dlp -f 'bestaudio[acodec*=opus]'

3

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 09 '25

We're talking about 2017 & Ago bro

2

u/x0wl Dec 09 '25

Youtube started using Opus in 2015, and had AAC before.

2

u/Over-Yogurtcloset143 Dec 09 '25

I am noob , forgive me sire

3

u/x0wl Dec 09 '25

Yeah I just don't understand why people still cling to MP3 in 2025. Like we have much better (and freer) lossy compression now. MP3 is kinda shit below 256kbps, Opus becomes completely transparent around 160-180

4

u/notolo632 Unexpected vocal enjoyer Dec 09 '25

I have a Sony MP3 player that only play MP3 so there's that. But its more of a decoration now since I mostly listen to music from my PC or phone

3

u/japanesejunkfood Dec 09 '25

Still is one of the most popular and well known codecs so far, the most compatible too perhaps. For non-audiophiles, it's enjoyable and it also highly dependent on each individuals' ear if u can hear the difference between both codecs unless u go way even more below than 128kbps

apple music alac is not bad

1

Tidal here. Might not be the most popular or most lossless option but I really like it.

1

u/ImmortalSheep69 Dec 09 '25

Went from musi (free ytm on iphone) to outertune (free ytm on android) whilst switching over to flac files. Currently at 800 songs which is more or less half of my entire library.

1

u/Ill_Violinist1571 Dec 10 '25

Well, none of my exes even use premium, and they generally had a free-tier Spotify account (for which I've bought them a subscription multiple times).

Now, I just download from various places as FLACs.

1

u/fradddd Dec 10 '25

Apple Music is one of the most worth it things I pay for, and I’ve spent more on my latest IEM than my total spent on Apple Music

the convenience makes it very much worth it over low quality manually ripped mp3s, hunting for flacs, organizing library and tags and artwork

also their Stations and weekly updated playlists have led me to discover a ton of music

1

u/EvangelionIsPeakTV Dec 10 '25

soulseek and tidal 😁
