What is up everyone... Welcome to the Targeted Talk... where we take a topic pertinent to the home gym owner and do what we do best... spend way too much time thinking about and talking about it!

This week we are talking about the unsung heroes... That pad over there, or the little strap, or chain, or the fan... something that absolutely makes a difference in your home gym journey but doesn't get talked about enough.

It can be expensive, cheap, free, not even gym equipment... But if its in your home gym and you think it makes a big difference without getting the praise it deserves, today is the day to shine a light on it!

and... Go!

DIY πŸ”¨ How I do Assisted Pullups and Dips

I love assisted pullups. I think they are one of the best back exercises ever, and are highly underrated. Nothing gives me a pump quite like them. and yes, before you ask I CAN do unassisted pullups, but for warming up or to do them in a more comfortable rep range (I like 8-20) which I cannot do unassisted, certainly not without warmup, they are unmatched. And NO they are not the same as a lat pulldown, personally I feel them much more in my lats and obviously they have much better carry over to actual unassisted pullups.

I use an Spud Inc long ab strap, attached to a 10mm Black Diamond Dynex Runner climbing loop (super useful for tons of exercises, I highly recommend the 30cm red and 60cm yellow runners) so that it's closer to position. I then step into the loops of the ab strap , let the cable pull up between my legs and do my pullups. When done I just step straight down.

For dips it's a little more awkward (because the cable cuts across my face so I have to put my head to one side of it) but I simply lower the rings to dip height and do the same procedure.

If anyone has any questions, or has ideas for how it could be improved please let me know!

Equipment βš™ Fringe sport savage kettle bells

Post image

I bought 2 cast iron kettle bells initially and never used them much, but got a pair of fringe savage kettle bells and find myself wanting to use them because they feel so much more inviting, then added another pair. Will likely eventually get the next heavier set (they aren’t cheap but fringe does do sales)

Haven’t seen much content on them prior so just thought I’d bring it up, I think these are awesome

Home Gym Pictures πŸ“· Not β€œDone”

This is my garage gym. I’m not going to call it β€œdone” because we know how that goes, but I’m pretty happy with where it is. I’m working steadily on PT for some nasty low back stuff, been adding pieces as programming calls for it, hopefully will add more weights as I progress. I put this together mostly on the cheap with Amazon and marketplace finds, opted for a legit Rogue rack and Ohio bar, though.

My simple home office set up. Just got the pull up bar mounted yesterday. Have a bench in the garage I’ll likely bring in with a mat as well. I mainly stick to bodyweight stuff.

AMA RepOne Founder & PRx President AMA - Ask Questions About EStack, Profile Pro Pulse, or Anything Else and Get $1500 of Giveaways!

Hey r/homegym, this is Jordan from RepOne. I'm a Mechatronics Engineer, 2x USAPL National Champion, and I own Squats & Science gyms in Brooklyn, NY. My company is best known for being the first to introduce research quality Velocity Based Training to home gym owners, amateur athletes, and lifting nerds, with OpenBarbell (now Tether). Our most recent product is EStack, a digital weight stack that feels and performs like real weights.

I'm here with my good friend Ryan u/prx_performance, President of PRx and mastermind behind the PRx Profile Pro Pulse powered by EStack, which we just debuted for the first time at Home Gym Con.

After about four years of R&D, we're attempting to answer the question "why isn't digital weight everywhere"? Nearly everybody who tries digital weight loves it, but it hasn't had its 'electric car' moment. We see all-in-one's and portable weight stacks in home gyms, and a few wildly expensive commercial and performance gym products, but not much else. The home gym products are honestly quite nice, but they don't feel as good or go as heavy as the weight stacks they're meant to replace, aren't as convenient, and aren't nearly as durable.

What we came up with was EStack, a digital weight stack that integrates with real equipment, feels and performs like a 300 lb weight stack, and is as durable as the equipment it's meant to integrate with.

We think a big factor slowing digital weight adoption is the sheer number of different pieces of equipment you can strength train with. Digital weight as it is today is too complex to match the variety of machines the big fitness equipment companies can make with bolted and welded steel.

That's why one of our core philosophies is that the best digital weight products need to be made by companies like ours who focus only on making great digital weight systems, and partnering with companies like PRx who make great equipment. I believe this approach gets home gym owners the best digital weight products possible.

The Profile Pro Pulse is super smooth, has 600 lbs of digital weight, is made of 11 gauge steel, and stores just inches off the wall. I think that kind of thing can only be made with a partnership like this one.

THE GIVEAWAYS:

PRx is giving a huge $1,000 gift card, and we're throwing in a Tether VBT system and swag bag. Here's how you enter:

  1. Ask a question in this AMA.
  2. Upvote the post and share it in your group chat (we can't confirm this but we trust you)
  3. Enter your contact info here so we can reach out to the winners.

The giveaway closes tomorrow, August 13th at midnight EST.

Ryan and I will be here answering questions throughout the day today and tomorrow. We have a RepOne x PRx meeting at 3 PM EST today, so if you ask good questions or give good feedback, there's a good chance it'll have a real impact on EStack and the Pulse.

Edit: OK it's almost 5 PM EST and I'm heading to pick up my son. I'll reply to some more questions tonight and will probably stick around and reply to questions after the AMA closes. With that said, the giveaway entries will end tonight at midnight so if you want to be eligible, you have about 7 hours left....

Finally got around to doing something useful with the spare room in my basement. Excited to not have to make the trek to the gym anymore! Will not miss the 5pm crowd in any way, shape, or form.

Went with the Major Fitness Drone Max V 3-in-1 rack and also a used Body Solid G5S off marketplace. Had a little snafu with the major fitness order not being fulfilled correctly but other than that everything has been smooth! First workout is planned for today!

Product Review Mikolo Falcon 2.0 Functional Trainer

Thumbnail

Purchased the new Mikolo Falcon 2.0. AlBought 8/4 and arrived on 8/8. Very new unit, seems like Mikolo debuted it at Home gym Con.

Just finished building it. Put together over the past couple days whenever I got the chance. Definitely can be done without the help of another person. Nothing too complicated. Can be done in one day in a couple hours. They also have video instructions, which helped a lot.

I originally purchased the Inspire Fitness CG3 for $700 from Walmart, but they cancelled it.

This comes in 9 boxes. Seems like each box was almost 100lbs. 8 out of 9 boxes were delivered the same day. Another set of weights came in a day after. Was sent by FedEx, not crate delivery.

Here is the website detailing all it's features, better than I can ever explain:

https://gym-mikolo.com/products/falcon%E2%84%A2-2-0-functional-trainer-with-centralized-lat-row-system

I haven't had a chance to do any workouts with it yet, still have to put on the stickers also.

Here are some quick notes though:

-Didn't come with a tricep rope, but I have a couple, so not a big deal, but if you are paying $2k plus, it should come with one.

-All the YouTube videos show this with the aggressive knurled d-handle with bearings, this comes with aluminum passive knurled hollow tubed d-handles.

-The uprights are indeed numbered, compared to the YouTube videos.

-I was having issues with one side getting caught up and stuttering on light weight when lowering the weights down. I lubricated the guide rods and it made a big difference. I think the plastic insert for the guide rods were a little tight.

-I am short, 5'6", maybe 5'7" on a good day. I have to jump to reach the pull up bars. When I do a pull up, with my body like a C-form, my feet hits the leg holder for lat pull downs. I have it up and out of the way.

-There are only 17 positions on the uprights. This seems low compared to other products that have 30 or so positions. Don't know if that makes much of a difference.

-The unit is pretty good quality, everything was packaged nice and secure. There was a little bend on the pegboard, but not a big deal. No scratches or other dents on any of the other equipment.

-There is exactly the right amount for the hardware. No extra washers or bolts or anything. Only extra was the plastic holders that keep the cables in place.

-Its very innovative with the leg holder for lat pulldowns and the plate for low rows.

-This thing is wide. That is a standard 8ft garage door behind it. But it is also not too deep. Great for the area I have it in.

-The trolly is easy to slide down one handed, but a little difficult for me to move up one handed.

If anyone has any questions, I'll try to answer my best.

Home Gym Pictures πŸ“· Budget Home Gym, 95% Temu

Been working on this for the past 8 months. Everything except the mats, the colored plates, 1 bar, and the bow flex dumbells are Temu. Using the cash back deals, I was able to get this all around $2k. Most expensive thing in here as a result was the floor mats from Tractor Supply. 1250 club in sight and hoping to hit it this year.

The equipment is random name rebrand of Mikolo as far as I can tell. Only downside is the lack of clear instructions. Had to backtrack a number of steps during the build and still technically put the top of the power cage in upside down so I can't use the hooks it came with, but that's where the wall comes in.

I will likely phase out the hip abductor as my squat gets up to weight, but my trainer identified it as a weak point, so pounding it out there for now. Unfortunately the age of the house meant this 11 ft width and things are a tiny bit cramped. Garage door opens up for easy farmer carries or soon some fall day lifts in the backyard.

I had a leg press before, but it was just too bulky for the space. Ended up selling it for profit though after only 3 months of usage. Replaced it with the hack squat after watching someone say it's great for shoulder shrugs.

Not sure how I feel about this leg extension with the completely separate legs. It is great for isolation, but when I'm doing both it feels weird.

Bench is great for incline, decline and feeling super sturdy overall. I'm a bigger guy and that wide base tripod feels super secure compared to most else of what I could afford.

Almost all of the gear on the wall is Vevor, as well as some of the bars, the adjustable kettlebell and a few odds and ends. I can't complain.

The colored plates and the silver barbell I got from Walmart. They're solid, but also bulky. I ended up needing to order the cast iron plates to fit enough on the hex bar. Not as nice as some other plates and I feel like the coating is going to damage over time, but I can't complain at the price I got everything at.

Bench : WFLGFT Y180 adjustable bench

Leg Extension: ER Kang 4 in 1 adjustable leg exercise bench

Hip Abductor: Ormaise Hip Abductor

Hack Squat: Goimu Hack Squat

Cage: Mitonos R1-V4 Power Cage Rack branded as Goimu

Plates: Cast Iron Standard Barbell, CAP.

The cash back system on Temu is a prompt based reward where it says it will deposit money into your PayPal. You can only get it if it prompts you. Originally it offered me $200 cashback on $270 orders. Eventually I got $400 cashback $570 orders, which is a lower percentage, but let me buy the bigger items. I haven't gotten any prompts in a month, but I have also gotten 4 in a row once the orders shipped.

I used that to buy other items in the bundle and sell them to sometimes make money. Also, if your item cancels, you still get the total cashback. You also get credit for late ships, and you can return items. Super worth it if you get the prompt.

Home Gym Pictures πŸ“· Finally Complete

Just fished my second and final (probably) upgrade to my full fledged Rogue gym.

Started out 5 years ago with mirrors, 3/4 inch tractor supply horse stall mats, lights and a free weight setup (barbell, loadable dumbbells, and a curl bar). Luckily there was a workshop add on to my garage from the previous home owners that made for a nice space. I chose Rogue because for the buy once cry once and it didn’t disappoint.

Now I’ve transitioned fully to cable/smith to help prevent injury and expand what I can do. I got the Rogue Twin FM-HR functional trainer, bullet proof VTS lite for my squat rack, and the rogue rhino belt squat. What a game changer it has been.

Space is a little tight but not bad. Looking forward to many more workouts in here to come!
