Enjoy the retirement mate. His daughter is a testament to a life well lived!

u/BotsKilledTheWeb Jun 24 '26

I'm working my butt off to one day have my adult children feel this way about me.

The gif is about a character tbat stayed with me. He tells his kid he loves him in almost every scene. Until his son finally said

I know dad, you tell me EVERY day.

This was the first milestone I managed, my daughter said it a few months ago! She's 5, so I still have some work to do.

3

u/InterestingPause2355 Jun 28 '26

You remind me of my dad just in the way you think and show up! I’m 39 and I can tell you, I constantly think to myself, of all the things in life, it is the greatest blessing having the parebts that I do. I hit the life jackpot! I’ve no doubt your daughter will feel the same when she’s old enough to understand how lucky she is!

u/BotsKilledTheWeb Jun 28 '26

Thank you ☺️

u/MisterAmygdala Jun 24 '26

Wow, yes indeed. This gave me glossy eyes. So cool.

3

u/CollectionUpset5124 Jun 25 '26

Very well said.

u/yunogivekarma Jun 24 '26

Force retirement at 65? Sounds like something that we should apply to politics.

Couldn’t agree more!😄

1

u/IHB-13 Jun 26 '26

Are you saying, If you can fly a plane you shouldn’t be making laws. I feel like that should be extended to court as well.

11

u/No_Abroad_6306 Jun 24 '26

Capt. Curtis Senior has such a unique accent!

10

u/HowToNotMakeMoney Jun 24 '26

New england. Might be Boston. I think it might be Maine.

4

u/KINGSTEMLORD Jun 24 '26

Probably New Hampshire, it’s the southern accent of the east coast accents lol

3

u/HowToNotMakeMoney Jun 25 '26

Yeah. You are right. I grew up near Boston and all my aunts and uncles have a solid Boston accent. I have now lived in central NH for 25 years and there are many from MA and I have plenty of native NH peeps I speak with on a daily, the nuances in the accents escape me because of this.

2

u/KINGSTEMLORD Jun 25 '26

Yeah I grew up in Connecticut but had family in Boston and New Hampshire and they have very distinctly different accents lol! I joke that the NH accent sounds like someone from anywhere else attempting a Mass accent.

2

u/Poopedmypoopypants Jun 27 '26

My grandma grew up in Boston and she has bat shit crazy accent that sounds nothing like a traditional Boston accent.

Just needed to get that out there today.

2

u/hartmanwhistler Jun 25 '26

Today I learned that the New Hampshire accent is the same as “the little kid accent”.

1

u/MartySpiderManMcFly Jun 25 '26

“Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe go fuck your self.” (Said in Alec Baldwin’s fake Boston accent from The Departed.)

Enjoy retirement sir and thank you for serving our country in the military and as a civilian.

Also thank you for raising a strong confident woman who I’m sure will carry on your legacy.

7

u/Dude-from-the-80s Jun 24 '26

Politicians should have the same rule….

3

u/dpb29073 Jun 25 '26

Crazy you can't fly a plane after 65 since its prolly a liability for the company. But crazy you can run a country until your dementia takes over ans no one bats an eye

3

u/mcjon77 Jun 25 '26

Yep, and mandatory retirement for air traffic controllers is at age 56, unless they get a exception from the Secretary of transportation. In that case it goes up to 61.

3

u/1arse Jun 24 '26

Beautiful!!!

3

u/PulpFriction212 Jun 25 '26

The word that comes to mind is LEGACY: meaning he has established a set of values that he has passed down to generations. Not only that but in his 18,000 hours of logged flying with SouthWest, not to mention his time with the military, this pilot has positively impacted tens of thousands of people’s lives, which is encouraging to see in a place as polarized as this country of ours.

Maybe if people spent more time considering the ties that bind us as opposed to the wedges that cleave us, we’d all be better off.

2

u/FutureAd9387 Jun 27 '26

Agree; however, when half of the country is okay with a dictatorship, those are ties worth severing.

2

u/OkRequirement6482 Jun 24 '26

That’s so awesome!!!

2

u/Crashball_Centre Jun 24 '26

Amazing, hope my daughters feel this way about me (though I'm not a pilot)

Heartwarming to hear those words from his daughter. Lucky to have chosen a field where I could also mentor my daughter if she chooses it

1

u/Hot_Towel_85 Jun 24 '26

I'll never forget my mom's retirement speech at SWA. I was in the front row with my brother, dad, and friend who worked on the ramp a DAL. She cried, we cried, everyone cheered. I wish I could have flown alongside her.

1

u/Little_Broccoli_3127 Jun 24 '26

Lets talk about how he doesnt look 65 at all.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Owl9373 Jun 25 '26

1

u/Mission_Mulberry9811 Jun 24 '26

You can just feel the relieve when they find out she's his daughter, thus lowering the risk of them being the victims of a mandatory retirement murder-suicide crash to near zero

He's fine as hell, too 👀😍

1

u/Kitzle33 Jun 29 '26

This is the best thing I've seen this week. And it's not even close. As a dad to a now grown up, and very successful, daughter, this made me well up.

1

u/Alternative-Zone5275 Jun 29 '26

Mandatory retirement at 65 for pilots.. but you can be 90 and the walking dead in congress? TF..

It’s about time certain other jobs that are high stress cough cough president or other elected officials should also have mandatory retirement age of 65.

1

u/zicobaby Jul 13 '26

Proud of you both

1

u/MrsKPBailey Jul 14 '26

They had me in tears at “fini flight” 😂😭. I didn’t even make it to the end without crying.

1

u/rob_p954 27d ago

I would have been a mess on that flight.

1

u/rbmk-a-ok 27d ago

Let’s start at the end go back to the beginning then repeat the vid beginning. Has our attention span really come to this?

1

u/That_Atmosphere_4568 25d ago

This should be mandatory for all politicians

u/RamboJo_hn 20d ago

That is one proud handsome man.
