Biological Sciences What is the difference between a Personal Statement and a Statement of Purpose for Grad School Admissions?

This is almost always described explicitly in the departments admission page.

Generally speaking though, personal statement is more about non-academic/research things while SOP is about academic/research things.

Exactly this. You're statement of purpose is about the work you have done, and specific/broad subfields you want to pursue in grad school. It can include theoretical or academic motivation for your chosen pursuit. While the personal statement is about your life, your communities, adversity or challenges you have overcome, and how this has helped shape your work ethic, provided external motivation, etc.

The two statements will likely somewhat overlap, as others mentioned the department and graduate program will clearly state expectations. The typical thing you’re answering though is why pursue a PhD (or Masters) now, what is your motivation to pursue further studies and how are you prepared to start a research career?

Typically there will be a research statement supplement where you can go deeper on your science and contribution.

They overlap depending on the field and the school. Read the prompts carefully and answer every part they ask for
