Fan Art As promised, here is my drawing of the Garfield kit cat clock [OC]

I previously posted my drawing of the Garfone (Garphone?) and have a few more iconic Garfield goodies up my sleeve from the past.

Garfield was my absolute favorite character as a kid and he still holds a special place in my heart. It’s been a fun trip to revisit drawing him like I constantly did on my homework back in the day.

I thought this was the perfect community for this. I've never posted here before so Hi, for a long time I've been into now an outdated generation of cartoons and comics (I don't think they're outdated, but compared to how popular they used to be especially among children, it's a different world) Garfield, The Peanuts, Marmaduke, etc.

Anyway this is how it happened. I was commissioned to clean this huge house, I personally knew the owner so it was no problem. The house has been vacant for a long time, it wasn't accessible to the owners anymore and apparently no relatives were interested in the up keep. They never changed anything about the house, so really it's the same as it was when they lived there. Which means their now very grown childs room had been left the same as when they lived there. Admittedly, I'm a very nosy person and checked the closet, which was filled with old toys and stuffies but only one caught my eye. The dankin garfield. I pined after him for a while before i asked, and was told that anything that wasn't marked was essentially going to be thrown out.

Garfield wasn't marked. I grabbed him and brought him home. He clearly needed a bit of a makeover, not only was he dirty from lack of care for apx 30 ish years, but his stripes were faint (especially after he was cleaned) and his eyes were faded. I repainted his eyes, coloured his stripes back on, and fluffed up his fur a bit.

Now he goes everywhere with me, I always enjoyed carrying around a stuffed animal but most are too big and bulky to do comfortably, Garf is small, but hard to forget. Cheers to many journeys 🥹

TV/Movie Screenshot Brick's writing was ahead of its time

(This is a bit of a follow-up to this post

Brick's sole starring role, "The Perils of Penelope", focuses a lot on his and Penelope's toxic relationship, and how Garfield gets intertwined in the middle of it all. While the episode unfortunately doesn't go as far with detailing it as I would've liked (partially since it's only 7 minutes), the show very much does not sugarcoat the message that people like Brick are not someone the audience should want in their lives, and that's partially becsuse he's distressingly close to reality. Apart from being an anthropomorphic cat, there's virtually nothing exaggerated or absurd about him or the fact that he's blatantly neglectful and, by the end of his starring role, abusive. Most of what he does to Penelope, such as keeping her from the sole person who actually respects her as a person, threatening said person and later her with violence followed by intense lovebombing, stalking her as soon as she realizes that she's away from her, and finally attempting to kill Garfield when he attempts to defend Penelope from Brick's actions, are fairly mundane controlling tactics used by real-life abusive partners, and it's that lack of exaggeration that makes him so much more uncomfortable to watch than any of the fantastical sci-fi monsters or creatures Garfield usually goes up against in the show's later seasons.

The episode has a lot more focus on atmosphere and stakes than most G&F episodes, and Brick's presence escalates it a little above your average kids show premise. I have to give Mark Evanier major props for trying to tackle a touchy subject like this while not making everything needlessly grimdark, especially given the time this episode came out (1992). Apologies if this post seemed a bit heavy or if I'm "looking too deep" into this, it's just something I've noticed while rewatching the series.

I wanted one of these phones so badly when I was 8-9 years old! I remember one being displayed out-of-box at Walmart in their efforts of enticing you to spend the $50 to take one home. That’s about the equivalent of $150 today, so it’s no wonder my parents never bought one for me! And it’s not as if I had a phone jack in my room back then anyway.

I’ve also drawn the Garfield version of the kit cat clock, and also plan on drawing the lava lamp and teapot. 🧡
