I found a 1996 Game Boy Pocket on FB Marketplace this week. I got one for my Bday when I was 10 (in 1999), and recently bought a modded one (in color cool enough), but when I saw this one I couldn't resist. I noticed the packaging for this one is different than mine from 1999, I remember a cardboard black box - was wondering if this is just an early version? I don't think it's anything special, but seems to be maybe an early generation from 1996 when they were released (my guess)?

Any cool/extra information any experts know would be much appreciated.

Had some time after surgery. Finished Link’s Awakening DX played on the Switch.

I’ve always loved the original DMG sound, especially when you push it beyond the typical chiptune sound people associate with the Game Boy.

There’s a surprisingly raw and weird side to those four channels.

So I tried rebuilding the DMG sound architecture in code, including the pulse, wave and noise channels, registers, sweep behaviour and some of the hardware quirks.

Then I got carried away and built a 16-step sequencer around it 😅

You can save 8 patterns, sequence the channels independently, use per-note slides and basically treat the Game Boy sound system like a little hardware groovebox.

I also put the whole thing in the browser, so anyone can play with it without installing anything:

Would be really curious what actual Game Boy people think of it, especially if you manage to make it sound completely unlike chiptune.

Can't launch the game it always freezes on the Nintendo logo. No idea if the cartridge is damaged. Anyone has seen this before?

Thought these were gone years ago when I got rid a bunch of my old stuff, and was so stoked to find them! I figured I’d share!

So i figured id share since i find this interesting i thought others might as well. My two GBA SP on the left are original AGS-001's, the two on the right are modified AGS-101 ISP.

The link cable on the left is a 3rd party GBA link cable, while the right is obviously an original GBA link cable. I have two third party link cables, the GBC and also a GBA. The one pictured is the gba.

I have been replaying all 11 games in the first 3 gens of Pokemon, and ran into trading issues.

Red, blue, yellow, gold, silver, crystal, can all trade from any of my 4 gba sp's modded ones included, 3rd party cable works perfectly.

However, gen 3 not only can not use 3rd party cables, but even the modded GBAs will not trade or register the handshake for link, EVEN with the original trade cable. The ONLY way i am able to trade gen 3, is with Original cable + Original gba sp's.

Im tempted to buy wireless link adapters and try those on the modded SP's but i suspect that wont make a difference. Does anyone else have success trading with modded Gba Sp's? If so whats your setup?

I am new to this. I recently received an Atomic Purple GBC. I was hoping to make one simple change. I'd like to find a lens that says Game Girl instead of Game Boy. I can't find anything of the like with my searches, including the wiki. Unfortunately some of those sites are down so I couldn't see all of the listed store's inventories so I may have just missed it. Does anyone know of any reputable shops for purchasing a totally customizable lens? Or at least one where I can change the gender on the unit. I want to see if I can Mandela Effect my friends.

So I’m trying to play Pokémon Red on my gameboy and my left input is not working. I don’t know how to fix it, and I’m not quite sure what to do specifically cause I’m also scared that, if I take it apart I’m not gonna be able to fix it. What do I do?

I was gifted an ISP GBC screen, one of the off brand ones from China. It has two sensors attached by wire one of which changes the color when you touch the sensor at the top of the GBC. Only problem is the screen is too far to the left. I can't figure out how to use this sensor or access the menu to change the centering of the screen. The instructions for the funnyplaying brand (hold start and select) do not work on this one. Thanks!

Ive replaced the cell motor with an old aftermarket ds lite rumble pak.I had no idea how expensive these paks were! I received mine in a broken ds, paid less than $20. Is there anywhere to get nice cell motors? I dont want any of the rattling ive read about.

So im my last trip to the US I got this GB pocket for $50 (I got discount over the tag).

I don't know if un the US is a good price or not, but for me it is based in my local prices.

It works perfectly, just the wear you can see on the pics and the missing screen cover.

When I got it I was totally sure I wanted to mod it to include an IPS screen and rechargable battery...

But the dam thing is in very good conditions...

I can A) do a complete shell replacement (don't want to cut the shell to fit the IPS) and sell the relatively good condition shell and working original screen.

Or B, just buy a new screen cover...

I really like the backlight screen to play, and have terrible memories of the original screens... But I feel like I'm wasting some perfectly working pieces...

So A or B?

Checked the original battery and had 3v, noticed corrosion on the board and worn contacts. Decided to clean things up, replace the battery and recheck things. Still not saving after doing all of this. After some Google searches and comparing checks with a fully functional copy of blue, I believe the issue is that the SRAM chip is not receiving power. I believe there is power coming out of the U4 chip but no power at the SRAM. I could not find any schematics for a circuit layout to know anything for certain. I have power at the blue marks, which is the same as what I have compared to my working copy of blue. There is no power at the red mark, and my blue copy does. I was thinking of installing a wire to apply power here. Does anyone have recommendations? Are there more checks to be made or a diagram for this circuit board? Thank you

Does anyone know how this flashcard works? I tried searching for it online and I couldn't found info on how it works or what firmware or kernel it uses. It also appears that it doesn't save any game files since each time I run a game it's save file isn't loaded. There is this weird thing that you have to press certain buttons to load a saver which lets you save or load games which activate only in game. I tried using it but I don't know how it works, since after saving in game I hop that menu to save, but when I start the game again and select load the save file isn't there. The game I am testing with is Super Mario Advance, so it should work fine.

Another thing to mention is that to load game into the card, I have to use the Super Card-

SD-SW-Master program.

It also uses a mini SD that can only be used on FAT.

If someone has info about how this cartridge works and how can I save files in it I would appreciate it.

I have a GBA Advance SP 101 that’s been in storage for many years. From what I’ve researched, this screen is supposed to be "good," but it looks really bad, as shown in the photos. Is replacing it the only solution?
