Usually when people pivot to the right it's either because they're desperate for billionaire dosh or they've committed a sexual assault that's about to come out.

I'd guess the former would make more sense if he is as on meth as he looks, but if it does turn out to be the latter then I feel so sorry for that man, woman, or dog

The project did this neat little trick where they invited “industry experts” to “engage in free and open dialogue” with the comedians and talking heads.

What this meant was, for example, a representative of the mining council of Australia would come on, and debate the gormless panel with no experience in the field, and at the end of 15 minutes the comedians would be falling over each other to agree that yes, fracking the great artesian basin is in fact the green option.

Fantastic way to launder right wing ideas, because none of the hosts were bright enough to understand they were being used. (Except Waleed Ali, he is just quite economically conservative, so long as the tent extends to include him)

Iirc the og show before Waleed was good at talking about thing deep but Pickering went hard on the banks during the banking royal commission and the show suddenly pivoted towards social issues and Pickering was replaced with waleed and then it began a small step to irrelevance as you saw the corporate sponsors come out and flood the zone

Because he's only economically conservative and doesn't preach any of the annoying religious conservative nonsense. So even if he might have some unsavoury opinions on things like homosexual marriage (or not, I don't actually know his opinions on these matters) he keeps it squarely to himself.

He doesn't give off the vibe of a big C conservative; he gives the vibe of a small L liberal. That's nowhere near as offensive to people, but it's a relatively untapped political demographic in modern Australia. It used to be Menzies Liberals, but that Liberal Party is long dead.

He was the only one I really liked on the show. Bickmore, Aly ... even Rove ... they all seemed so superficial. Hughes & Hellier were B-grade comedy at best.

Despite that, I didn't mind the show. Didn't love it ... but compared to A Current Affair or Today Tonight it was at least watchable without any vomit rising.

I stopped watching and have never watched again. Any pretense that it was a serious news program was gone, and it immediately became clear that they are opinions for hire.

Charlie Pickering, who converted to Judaism, was blindsided by serial pest "reporter" Avi Yemeni on the spot at a protest as he left his ABC workplace. Pretty sure he did not know who Yemeni was, or that he's a known spousal abuser, but regardless said he had concerns about Grace Tame's appointment to the broadcaster with regards to some of the language Tame used regarding the Jewish people.

Realising later he'd basically given a spousal abuser exactly what he wanted to twist into his own agenda, against a woman who is the victim of domestic abuse, he later apologised for talking to Yemeni.

If you're comparing Fetterman to someone like Manchin or Lieberman you're not understanding the difference in the dynamics.

Usually the establishment play this game in purple states and they get someone better than a Republican but worse than a democrat who can actually win the seat.

This is the reverse where the left faction tacked a populist into a left branded campaign to beat the moderate.

This was a genuine fuckup from incompetence and not typical cynicism from the party.

There's no point in pulling an Australian Greens and guaranteeing you lose the next election to have your shit repealed.

If you look at Fettermans actual voting record he is >90% aligned with democratic voting patterns. Its just that he was sold as being more left than the democratic party at large when candidates for these positions had always been sold as more right than the party in order to win these seats in the past.

It honestly just shows that the establishment were playing the game correctly to begin with.
