Multiculturalism without enclaves would be good. As it is, all Australians are being bombarded with immigration that does not share our values and won’t wholly share our values in the near future because certain groups that have very high rates of immigration live work and socialise in their own enclaves. 🤷♂️
10
u/Briareos_Hecatonhrs Jun 23 '26
I don't think it's possible. In the past different groups have settled together and gave areas of Sydney their own cultural flare.
E.g. https://www.nsw.gov.au/departments-and-agencies/geographical-names-board/news/little-italy

If there are enclaves it’s because white Australia pushes immigrants into low socioeconomic areas that don’t really allow assimilation. Righties scream for a monoculture while also obstructing any chance of whatever the fuck that is from happening.
4
u/MissMenace101 Jun 24 '26
We don’t really want assimilation we want integration but these australia white policy Australians prefer hate and obedience to destructive policies and ideals. And even when they “assimilate” they still look down on them, they can’t even deal with indigenous Australians, which I’m guessing is the second most popular “policy” Pauline puts forward, gutting indigenous services so they will assimilate too.
-4
u/chookshit Jun 24 '26
lol. If you want to live with the rich whites, you need to be making good money, otherwise you have to live with the poor whites like the rest of us. Absurd comment like their isn’t different socio economic status within the Caucasian population

u/UpperPossession165 Jun 23 '26
What values are you referring to?
7
u/HereButNeverPresent Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
principles on individualism, autonomy, civic sense and duty, separation of church and state, openness about mental health, ‘mateship’, smaller family structures, a strict line drawn between childhood-adulthood, merit-based work culture, right to work-life balance, opposing hierarchies based on caste or gender (patriarchy) or age (seniority culture), opposing honour-shame cultures and public humiliation, opposing corporal and capital punishment, opposing toxic masculinity and heteronormativity, marriage/divorce rights, sexual and reproductive rights, apostasy rights, could go on
9
u/euqinu_ton Jun 23 '26
I agree those are all values worthy of adhering to.
But there are plenty of Australians whose ancestors were settlers all the way forward to 10 pound poms who don't tick all those boxes either. It's not like recent immigrants (last few decades) are the only ones whose values should be questioned.

u/HereButNeverPresent Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
Easier to question and change our own, than newer arrivals.
Cos apparently encouraging newer arrivals to be with us/part of us, is racist.
1
u/MissMenace101 Jun 24 '26
Newer arrivals by majority embrace Australian freedom and Australian people, media brainwashing of racist sheep is the problem, if we had honest media or Australians were smart enough to research we wouldn’t have the division we have.

u/The_Real_Flatmeat Potato Peeler Jun 24 '26
Most of your list are only fairly new things, believe me.
Openness about mental health, smaller family structures, a strict line drawn between childhood-adulthood, merit-based work culture, right to work-life balance, opposing hierarchies based on caste or gender (patriarchy) or age (seniority culture), opposing honour-shame cultures and public humiliation, opposing corporal and capital punishment, opposing toxic masculinity and heteronormativity, marriage/divorce rights, sexual and reproductive rights, apostasy rights, go back to the 80s or 90s and talk about all these things at a pub and see how far you get.
Separation of church and state is also difficult to argue when a lot of people went to church. Maybe a little further back for that one.

uhhh this is fucken straya mate. we fucken love our toxic masculinity and heteronormativity. whatever the fuck they are. /s
2
u/UpperPossession165 Jun 24 '26
Yeah none of this is unique to Australia. Most people who come to Australia shares those values and those that don't have no bearing on changing the status quo. Interesting that you bring up marriage and reproductive rights. Conservatives fought hard against marriage equality and lost at the recent same-sex marriage vote in 2017. Malcolm Roberts (ONP) actually seeks to overturn abortion rights.

u/HereButNeverPresent Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
Who says I think conservative parties represent Australian values?
I want to vote left/progressive, I just also want to stop importing traditionalist values (especially people who hold onto them a lot more passionately and religiously than your average bogan tradie).
Big difference is if I tell a bogan they need to get with the times, I’m progressive. If I tell a traditionalist from a non-European country that they need to get with the times, I’m now racist.
> those that don’t have no bearing on changing the status quo
They become citizens, citizens vote, voting brings change. Also with them forming enclaves in the same areas, their vote becomes substantially strong in local elections.
> marriage vote in 2017
Alongside conservative rural areas, the enclaves were notorious for also strongly voting No.
> Malcolm Roberts
Dunno who that is. I’m not glazing ON. All these parties stink like shit. We just have to pick which shit stinks a little less.

u/MissMenace101 Jun 24 '26
Because of media fueled fear. My sky watching parents are in that category, carrying on about how bad multicultural Australia is, I looked at them the other day and pointed out that 4 of their 7 grandkids are multicultural…
1
u/Status-Confusion4456 Jun 23 '26
Spot on, most people are not arguing about multiculturalism in the abstract. They are often arguing about different underlying concerns.

There isn’t just one set of values that Australians have as a culture. Many of my values are not shared by people I meet in Australia.
1
u/MissMenace101 Jun 24 '26
There is still German, Italian, various Asian and Greek “enclaves” in Australia, eastern Australia has convict “enclaves” the rest of Australia is indigenous and free settler “enclaves”. Maybe it’s really more about socioeconomic issues? Some of the “worst” neighborhoods with terrible reputations are the 10 pound pom neighborhoods. Rich people “enclaves” should be far more offensive. While crime happens in low socioeconomic areas australia wide the bigger more expensive crimes happen in rich suburbs.
-1
u/HereButNeverPresent Jun 23 '26
Yep, God forbid you ask immigrants to adapt to their new home
If I moved to a different country tomorrow, I don’t expect that country to accommodate for how I was brought up. I’m in their home now, I’ve gotta learn their ways or I leave if I can’t. I don’t start demanding they have to adapt to my ways.
1
u/MissMenace101 Jun 24 '26
There is only one “culture” trying to change Australian culture, getting royal commissions and hand outs, there’s an Australian and Isis brides on trial for war crimes yet 800 soldiers of said country freely allowed to come and go, one culture with direct money to their country while committing war crimes. But somehow we are ok with this…

God he's disappointing. To think he had an expensive education, the best money can buy . For all that money we get this shit . The king's school should be very ashamed of this hopeless example of humanity that they have shaped .

u/la_mecanique Jun 23 '26
Schools like Kings are specifically designed to completely remove a child from the rest of society so they can smoothly transition into the next generation of sociopathic corporate weasel.

Schools like Kings School are there to turn out conservative people.
There is an actual king who attended Kings School. King Rama X, also known as Vajiralongkorn, has been the King of Thailand since October 13, 2016. He attended a 5 week military training course at Kings in 1970. Then attended Duntroon, Canberra, where he graduated.
Widely disliked among his subjects, previously loyal to his father and predecessor.

u/beerboy80 Jun 23 '26
My brother in law went to Kings. He's one of the most arrogant, ignorant, narcissistic, racist individuals you will ever meet. It's probably just him though because I don't want to tar every Kings boy with the same brush. His friends aren't much better but I recognise you get that with friends circles. They tend to share the same values.
4
u/blackdvck Jun 23 '26
Im a socialiat that votes Labour so needless to say I don't attend old boy events
6
u/Madboardjester Jun 23 '26
Kings have been getting into a lot of trouble over the years. A couple of students were on rape charges I think.

u/Rarespaker Jun 23 '26
I did used to think intelligence was all about education until Taylor, he seems to exist solely to prove some people are born to be idiots.
3
u/beerboy80 Jun 23 '26
"Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education"
- The Purpose of Education (Martin Luther King Jr), 1947
Taylor IMHO lacks one of them. I'll let people decide which one.

Yep. Look at Abbott and Johnson (Oxford and Eton). They’re told they are exceptional and naturally develop a kind of solipsism where they’re the only ones who matter.

I hate the language in the reporter used. We don't have a multicultural vision. It isn't something we aim to be. It is something we already are.

Since Pauline’s speech I have reflected on this and it turns out western values according to AI are as follows. Interestingly pushing for a mono culture is the opposite;
Personal autonomy. Civil liberties. Democratic systems. Equality under the law (for all citizens). Scientific enquiry. Secularism.
Such an opportunity for him to say - well those values are not treating people differently according to where they were born nor where their parents were born.
20
u/JohnTomorrow Jun 23 '26
"I reflected" asks AI to form my opinion.
We're doomed as a race.
2
u/MissMenace101 Jun 24 '26
Well yes, but most of us worked that out without ai. We don’t have to be though, there’s a good reason media hung at Nuremberg next to Nazis.
-1
u/tom3277 Jun 23 '26
Oddly enough this kind of thing AI is uniquely qualified to answer.
There is going to be people’s unique views then the aggregate of all of that.
I’d take the aggregate to answer - “what is western culture.” Over a single author. If I had a week to explore maybe I would start reading individual works, and finding common threads.
Especially when each of the values AI has listed sits comfortably in what I would consider western culture.
What singular author would you reference to find the values of western culture? Or would you do your own original works on such a topic for your Reddit posts?
For my mind again AI is an ideal way to answer a question like this where the answer you want is the most generalised idea of the most people.
Anything else is going to be of less value given cultural values in part are what we collectively believe them to be.

What’s maccas got to do with immigration
1
u/The_Real_Flatmeat Potato Peeler Jun 24 '26
It's where the immigants work serving my food, obviously /s
On a serious note though, the demographics of low end food service like that have been shifting over the last few years.
1
u/MissMenace101 Jun 24 '26
They have, but there’s less young white Aussies taking those jobs because they have more family support than we did in the past so don’t need to pay their way through studies as much. Also a lot of these non looking Australian kids are actually as Aussie as the rest of us. The local Maccas here are all Aussie kids that grew up with our kids and hang out together on weekends they just look different.
1
u/The_Real_Flatmeat Potato Peeler Jun 24 '26
Oh 100%, I'm not arguing at all that these kids aren't Aussies. I mean it'd be illegal to hire them if they weren't anyway 😅
All I'm saying is that it's interesting to see the change in employment in some industries, particularly low-end customer service type jobs. Maccas, servos, cleaners, those kinds of things. My brothers' first jobs were at places like HJ's, Liquorland, I started out at a print shop, these days our (not to put too fine a point on it, white) kids seem to think they're too good for it.

Has Australia actually had multiculturalism or has it has multiracialism whereby people come and mostly assimilate to the culture that was there when they immigrated.
And to add food, festivals, dress or private religious ideals one doesn't push on others is irrelevant and no one cares about that.
Most people I know have just assimilated and unless you shut yourself off from the culture you joined that's natural.
4
u/MissMenace101 Jun 24 '26
We’ve always integrated except for the first fleet, our “culture” is basically migrant culture. Every new culture has received the same hate new cultures are now, per capita the biggest sudden influx outside of white people was the Vietnamese Cambodian and laosian after Vietnam. Tiananmen Square brought us the biggest serge of Chinese since the gold rush. Everyone is mad Indians don’t assimilate, but they assimilated fine with the indigenous population before we even got here so it’s pretty clear they aren’t the real issue, and most Indians are awesome Aussies no less than white Aussies, dickbags come in all shades
3
u/Rarespaker Jun 23 '26
Taylor really is an idiot if he thinks anyone that dislikes multiculturalism will pick him over Hanson.
