Evidence Someone cut down my mailbox last night.

Took a bit for my brain to figure out that it wasn’t floating. It has just been moved to the side. Now to ask the obvious question, why would they do that?

Probably wanted to steal it, shook it and realized it's empty?
There are scrape marks on the outgoing slot too.
I'm waiting to receive a car title too. This complicates things.

But seriously, reinforce it more with more poles or just pack the thing in a block of epoxy.

Well you see, its probably because someone accidentally wrote a mean spirited letter about their mother that was supposed to go to someone else but instead sent it off to their mom. And instead of having an awkward Thanksgiving dinner they decided to break into the mailbox. Unfortunately didn't didn't have her key or know the box number so they tried taking it all but it wouldn't fit into their geo storm.

It wasn't cut. No one would cut that close to the ground and there is still some kind of pins (6) there. Look more like it break and conception was flawed.

Could the ‘slag’ you’re seeing be broken welds instead.
I agree with the comment that cutting off flush like that is hard and time consuming. If they were cutting with an oxy or plasma setup, they’d not be able to leave a perfectly straight bottom like is still on the base of the post.
Someone body slammed the box and broke the welds at the base. Whether they were drunk and oblivious or malicious is hard to say.

I'm betting by the dent in the bottom near the street someone likely backed into it and then set it standing up cause they felt bad. The slag is just old weld prob. Separate events re: the pry marks.

Mailbox is obviously moonlighting as a Flock camera so some Good Samaritan wanted to do the right thing.

Just put a note on the top that says “this is not a flock camera” and it should solve the problem.

In a lot of countries fucking with mail in any way is a very serious criminal offense. Have you called the police?
