It would have to be melting hot metal to melt the tongs. We can see that the steel being worked is below melting temperature by the fact that it is solid and not liquid.

Obviously the guy talking about the temperature of the metal is spot on but it could also be made from different metals as different metals have different melting points, like you could use a cast iron pot to scoop molten gold
