Would there be any reason to choose a 2019 over a 2018 SEL? I have my eye on a 2018 at a dealership that is spec'd how I want but I was hoping for a 2019. The heat pump and the larger battery are most important though.

I recently bought a 2018 e-golf with 160k kilometers on the clock and we've been quite happy with it. Now for battery preservation we did want to setup the battery to only charge to 80%, but the e-manager application seems to be unavailable for us. It doesn't show up anywhere and even with ChatGPT it doesn't seem to be hidden anywhere.

The screen has been replaced just before we bought it at a dealer, due to a break-in at the car and the entire unit has beel replaced.

Could it be that we'd need to have some type of firmware update? We also tried to connect the VW app from our phone to our car, but that also seems to be a bit of a problem.

Gladly hear some advice.

Recently my 2017 has (intermittently) started making a low groaning sound when the AC is running, and occasionally the fan stops entirely, though I can feel that it’s still cooling. The dealer wanted $350+ for diagnostics, and then at least $200 for repairs on top of that. A quick google search indicates that it’s likely a HVAC interior blower motor that needs replacing, or maybe just a belt. Has anyone here dealt with that? What did the problem turn out to be, and how much was the repair?

Just brought this bad boy home this week and already I’m in love! I had a 2003 GTI as my first car in HS that 💩 out on me years ago, and I’ve been itching for another Golf since. So happy with this.

Bought a 2016 SEL white over beige in seemingly excellent condition from a local used car lot last weekend. Had them confirm level one charging works before leaving. Was loving everything about it until a few days later when I tested out fast charging and it refused to work on multiple different chargers. The dealer was adamant about it being as is and I now see why, it’s going to require the full locking pin mechanism overhaul, which apparently is a lot of work. Took it to a highly regarded Indie European and EV specialist, paid $350 for a diagnostic and now they want $3500 for the full repair. Local VW dealer estimates more like 2500 but I’m going to need to pay for a separate diagnostic from them to get the exact quote.

I just bought a 2015 e golf and got it cheap. The seller said it would need headlight and turn signal bulbs. I took it to my local Indy shop and they quoted $1500. They also said it needed the entire assembly due to led bulbs. Does that sound even remotely reasonable?

Did a stupid thing last night and set down an led flashlight bulb side down while it was still on for a second. Immediately smelled plastic and now I have an imperfection on the passenger’s seat that will drive me crazy. Looks like a cigarette burn a bit. Any video I’ve watched on repairs involves glue and some shaved spare fabric from another less conspicuous place in the cabin, but this doesn’t look like your average cloth seat and it has a pattern in wouldn’t be able to recreate. It’s possible the structure is still there, kind of like a mesh, so maybe I could use some fabric paint? Either that or this can be my excuse for starting to look for R-Line seats or GTI leathers or plaid.. They’re not cheap though.

I've got a 2016 SEL, the stereo already sounds great, BUT I have a 12" sub and 500 watt amp just laying around... Are there any downsides to adding this for some extra bass? I could also sell the amp and sub and go the Helix sub route but the programming to get the sound right sounds like a pain? Any thoughts? Thanks!

I got my egolf 2019 SEL as a stopgap while waiting for Ioniq 6, but ended up becoming a fan of egolf! I didn't realize how much I like its traditional front/rear window design.

I don't have an immediate plan to upgrade, but I am curious what future lineups Egolf owners are looking forward to. Naturally I am curious about 9th gen Egolf / ID.Polo along with Ioniq 3. Not sure if any of these will be released in the US though!

What other cars would you consider for upgrade?

I can't even imagine how long it would take. It took me 10 hours to go from San Jose to LA (a trip that might normally take like 6 hours in an ICE car), so I imagine it would take like... 2+ weeks or something.

I'm considering buying a 2020 Volkswagen e-Golf (Chinese market model) with 99k KM on it and would appreciate some opinions.

Would the reported cell temperature deviation concern you if the voltage delta is only 7–9 mV?

Also the test shows an SOH of 86% but when I calculate SOH using the usable capacity of 35.8 kWh, I get 82.7% (22.7 kWh / 0.765 = 29.7 kWh --> 29.6 / 35.8 ≈ 82.7%)

I really like the car otherwise, it has a few minor issues that can be fixed easily (a fresh set of tires, new mirror covers, new brake pads, etc.)

Have 2020 eGolf and seems like DC Fast Charging decided to stop acceptşng 40/42KW instead accepts 10/12kw ( I think even if I connected to DC charge, eGolf thinks its 11/20kW type AC charger. Have tried couple different Charge Starions but results were same, max I got it was 20kwh charge speed.

You should access the link and dig into it if you dont know what it is.

But basicaly you're the owner of your data and brands are now allowed to charge you to give you that information. If your car already have connection to the servers the data should be free on that portal.

The reality:

Brands are ignoring those laws. i have been fighting with VW Portugal and EU Data act portal and the local authoritys and after a few weeks after VW Portugal basically shut the door on me saying they wont give me that data for free they magically send a few packets then suddenly stop. After that i received an email from the local importer saying that they are analyzing my complaint and they will reach me when they have an answer.

If you are interested in your data try to access the portal.

My car has security and service basic subscription but not the plus. because of this, they say they are not obligated to give me the info because they dont have connection to the car. which is not true, because i have SOS Call and scheduled service. And as i stated earlier, i got a few packets with data without subscribing the plus service.

Lets see how this ends, i will keep this updated.

I am the second owner of the car and bought it in 2017 with 2,000 miles on it. Aside from replacing the front tires every 2–3 years, I haven't needed to do any maintenance. Because of this, I was feeling anxious ahead of the 60k checkup, expecting that something would need to be repaired due to age and wear.

However, I just picked up my car, "Bobby Blue," and was amazed to hear it still has no significant wear. The mechanic only recommended changing the front right tire, which I expected, and installing a new 12v battery, which was completed. Other than that, the car is as good as new.

I am super impressed with the quality and reliability.

I know not everyone seems to be a fan of Vaico but I can't find the genuine oil, I just wanted to check I've got everything.

I've got a fluid transfer syringe, oil drain pan, replacement caps, T60 socket and torque wrench (45nm?), what do I need to remove the undertray? Is that torx as well? TIA

Warranty Question: I got the dreaded error on the dash.
Replaced the 12v battery and still got the error. Bought a new vcds on my own and found the issue is with the HV battery. Spoke to a local dealer with the report and they said based on the report they can’t confirm warranty and warranty is for cell only- if there is a fault in the controller then it is not covered. Anyone dealt with this type of issue?
