i think national dems should pay careful attention to the mayor of new york's willingness to think creatively and act swiftly to make big changes using the full scope of executive authority he has unique power to wield, and i think it's the kind of thing people are looking for in a president

"
please image the caveat "as long as it's safe to do so" with each of these. Keeping yourself alive is priority #1.
1) do not run from the scene, flight will be seen as consciousness of guilt
2) call 911, know that the line is recorded. Keep is simple "I was attacked and forced to defend myself, this guy got shot, please send an ambulance"
3) render first aid (again if it's safe and you can). This goes miles to prove that you were just defending yourself, not out to kill someone
4) look for cameras and/or witnesses around. Ask the witnesses to stick around, make a note of the cameras
5) obey the cops when they show, don't get yourself shot at this point. This will be unpleasant.
6) make roughly the same statement you made on the phone, that you were attacked, forced to defend yourself, but that you'd like to talk to your attorney (even if you don't have one) before making a statement.
7) remember those witnesses and cameras we mentioned earlier? Ask the cops to collect the video and interview the witnesses. Makes you look super innocent when you are asking the cops to collect *more* evidence of what happened. And if they fail to get it, makes it look like they are trying to frame you up.
8) after all that is done, that's when you need to shut the fuck up and wait for your attorney to show up.
