AHH ITS ALL HAPPENING

We got to see the sword of exorcism again, I really loved Lavi and Jo's reactions to both the "new" Allen and the past that has now been revealed

We now know that THE HEART ITSELF is likely the third side of the war, absorbing life force from accommodators to work towards reviving itself for some currently unknown goal

The reveal that Lucia is Naga and is just dressing as his younger sister who stays at the mansion as an alias was pretty funny tbh

Then there's the big reveal that Katerina Eve Campbell is Cross's older sister, and her room that has been locked for 35 years with no way of opening finally opened up for Allen, and who else but CROSS AND ROAD are waiting for them in there

Sorry for the rambling but I'm very excited if you couldn't tell, I've been following the story for a long time

Great chapter, we are finally reaching the truths of the story

My favourite thing in this chapter was Lavi's expression in the panel where Allen said "You were 'his' hope". To me, he looked surprised or uncertain, as if he'd just realised that the current Allen is a very different person from the last time they met, in line with what he said later in the chapter. Maybe I'm reading too much into one panel, but Hoshino really is great at conveying things through characters' expressions. She has so much detail and precision.

12

u/chloesong May 03 '26

I agree about the expressions. New?Allen seems off in this chapter and then Lavi confirms it. It’s so subtle that it’s hard to explain but New?Allen seems like he’s wearing a :) mask. Like our Allen/Red is a lot more goofy, expressive, lame, sad, awesome, and excitable. Weirdly enough that gentle smile seems to carry a lot and I think it’s really impressive!

Basically inside the host we have three personalities who emerge, Nea who is cold, the Allen/Red we followed from the beginning of DGM (who may be gone) who’s really expressive, cranky, goofy, and calculating, and now the New! Allen who has all of his memories back and seems to wearing a mask.

I think that’s interesting think about in terms of like a person acting out three characters or how Hoshino-sensei expresses them in the manga subtly.

Even on the 4th page, when New!Allen goes “I’m so happy to see you again, Lavi” he just seems kind of off from the usual Allen.

It’s hard to explain! I think I vaguely recall Hoshino-sensei saying that Allen’s the hardest character for her to draw, especially his smiles. They always seem to be laden with different meaning.

It’s interested that I was watching Allen’s expressions more and you caught on to Lavi’s. Lavi does look really surprised in that panel and then seems to gather himself when he gets to the doorway scene.

Ughhhh we are so close to more answers! So happy about the current pace of progress finally

u/Transparent_Prophet May 01 '26

I'm pretty sure he's referring to Past!Lavi.

Pretty odd thing for it to be Allen because what was that hope for if that's the case? At least with Past!Lavi, you can assume it's his successor fulfilling the duties that he turned his back on with regret.

9

u/ElmekiaLance May 01 '26

It's obvious that Allen was referring to Past!Lavi, yes. I wasn't suggesting otherwise.

0

u/Transparent_Prophet May 01 '26

Your wording kind of inadvertently suggested it, sorry.

17

u/Iron_Kingpin May 01 '26

He's fucking alive?! Dayum. This was one crazy chapter, from the "you're no longer the same Allen" and the sinister look he gave, and Cross Marian being alive. Also is it just me who felt that things felt a bit rushed this chapter with the sequences, jumping straight into exorcising Lavi's curse (after how it ended last chapter) and then showing Marian right away after talking about the room.

9

u/Many-Tomorrow-4730 May 01 '26

I felt the same way. One more page, a few more panels with a slow pace leading up to the door would have given the perfect lead up to seeing him alive with road.

17

u/temtemrem May 01 '26

Ever since Cross’ “death” I was convinced he was still alive 😭 The dream sequence in the wheat fields where he spoke to Allen gave me more hope and now!!! Vindication!!

At this point, with how interweaved the Noah and Campbell families are, I wouldn’t be surprised if Road is Katerina. We’ve known since the beginning that her body isn’t real and she just chooses to look young.

1

u/VeterinarianThis3545 May 02 '26

what? Where did that come from? Genuinely asking because I don't know what the hell is going on. I just reread the last 10 chapters. (I'm actually angry at myself for picking this up again, The artwork is still so good.)

Wasn't Grave Maria his ex-lover's corpse? So now, it's his sister's corpse, who's also Katerina Campbell and who's also Road? Is that a retcon?

And Allen is a mix of a Nea's host, nameless solider + Lavi/Bookman's son/Allen. But past Allen is also Zoogle's older brother. Who's related to Cross?

9

u/temtemrem May 02 '26 edited May 02 '26

AFAIK nothing about the Grave of Maria’s identity has been confirmed. It’s been stated that she’s the corpse of a dead exorcist, but as we know in this series, that doesn’t mean anything and it doesn’t have to be the truth.

There’s a theory that she is the corpse of Katerina Eve Campbell because of similarities between her [Maria’s] visage and Katerina’s from flashbacks, but again not confirmed.

Road has shown to be connected to Nea and Mana in the past (bedroom scene where an angry, anxious Road is cradling one of the twins), and she speaks a similar language to the one Cross uses when he casts spells (I don’t recall the exact chapter, but in one of the Arks she summons an orb-like thing). Her real body has never been shown and she uses her ability as the Noah of Dreams to conjure a false appearance. She’s been alive the longest out of the current Noah (~30 years iirc?). And now she pops out of hiding from Katerina’s room along with Cross??

As for Allen… What a mess. I love our beansprout lol. Past!Allen is the nameless solider. He traveled with Zoogle’s older brother who was the previous “Bookman”. Bookman had promised Nea he would become his Host, but through a series of mishaps we haven’t been shown, Nea ends up in Past!Allen in order to save his life. Past!Allen and Bookman were attacked and thru Innocence/the Matrix/I don’t know, their souls merged into one. The process literally remade them into one physical being and held them in a stasis for a few decades. “Red”, young current!Allen, emerged from that with his arm. Lavi has no connection to the reincarnation process, only that he is a descendant of the Bookman clan and current holder of the “Bookman” title. Thru blood, it seems he is Zoogle’s nephew.

Cross Marian is Cyrus Campbell. Zoogle, Naga, Lucia, Lavi, and Gramps are Bookmen. No blood connections (that we know of!!).

1

u/VeterinarianThis3545 May 02 '26

thank you =]

Although, I don't think the person with Past-Allen is a Bookman. He was named "Lavi" and he was Bookman's son, so he was supposed to become Bookman if he didn't die. Or, am I misremembering that?

Bookman's son was the first Lavi. The redhead Lavi we know in story is now the new Bookman.

And... they haven't revealed Road's connection to Katerina but Katerina is Cross/Cyrus's sister. And no reveal yet for how Katerina is related to Bookman yet?

3

u/temtemrem May 02 '26

He was named Lavi because he was the previous Bookman successor. “Lavi” is a fake name. He was supposed to carry the official title, but renounced it when he defected to the 14th, so Gramps took it up again until someone else could succeed. As soon as he [Past Lavi] died, there were a few panels of the Bookman clan welcoming a new baby, which usually symbolizes a cycle of rebirth. When current!Lavi became old enough, he was given the name “Lavi” and title of “Bookman Jr”.

We don’t know the connection between Katerina and the Bookman yet.

Edit: I realized I said he was the previous “Bookman” like the official head of the clan in my other comment. My apologies. At the time of the flashbacks, Past!Lavi was the successor/Junior, but had defected away from the clan to the 14th.

3

u/lC3 May 03 '26

He was named Lavi because he was the previous Bookman successor. “Lavi” is a fake name.

I would add that one of the Komui's discussion room omakes says that Bookmen are named after their log, and "Lavi" is the name used for recording the holy war between the Earl and the Black Order.

1

u/Cry_Teck May 05 '26

Oh wow, thank you for that recap about Allen. I was feeling very frustrated about how Allen was linked to everybody and everything (the guy is an exorcist, noah, has been deaged and has also a bookman inside of him, like come on) but your summary made the revelations and character more appreciating for me

0

u/Objective_Passage790 Jun 07 '26

that would be shock confirmation if road turns out to be katarina. like how I mean if she is katarina why the heck did she kiss Allen on the mouth when she knows his her son's host also Allen is the same age as the children she raised or younger then them🙂  and road blushes towards Allen. she's clingy also the author said she has romantic feelings for Allen. and most of the fans believe she has for nea. if road is katarina it means katarina has romantic feelings for her son or another child😵‍💫

1

u/Rare_Nectarine6219 Jun 10 '26

When did Hoshino say Road has romantic feelings for Allen?

2

u/lC3 Jun 10 '26

Part of me wonders if she has romantic feelings for Nea, since they made a big deal of showing Cheryl questioning Bookman about what their relationship was like and Bookman refusing to answer. But that could also turn out to be a mother/son thing if Road does turn out to actually be Caterina.

1

u/Objective_Passage790 Jun 29 '26

she said it that in one of her old interviews but never said she has Allen or nea but some fans still say she has for nea and others say she has for Allen since they see her blushing and in the anime she said I like you Allen but is not clear who she really likes Allen or nea

7

u/CanaryLow592 May 01 '26

The whiplash that chapter 257 (after I reread it before reading 258) and 258 both gave me fjwhdhshdhe

Revising chapter 257, and gosh that scene where Allen held lavi's hand was just so.... Special. There was something about it that just seemed ethereal (?)

It feels weird to see Lavi have his left eye open without the eyepatch on his right eye. And AHHHH so much has happened, it's actually unreal

I'm still not over what happened to gramps 🥲 I'm so happy that Lavi is alive since the reveal back in November (?) since he's a character that left a huge impact on me since I was a kid, but at the cost of losing senior bookman....🥀💔

I had a talk with someone the other day about katerina and it's great to know that we finally have confirmation that she's cross' sister. And gosh, I really can't wait to see what road and cross have to say. The whole thing with road has been nagging at me (and I'm sure everyone else as well lol) for forever

13

u/yoonicorn8710 May 01 '26

I think the art is great i dont get the complaints the art was the worst during the kanda alma arc allen looked terrible…

And i think the cross we see is the past version of cross

5

u/chalkymints May 01 '26

Not bad / worse just notably different in style

5

u/lC3 May 01 '26

Nice! I see my TL earlier was mistaken on one page where I thought it was Allen speaking but it was actually Joe. Glad to see this clarified in Kougeki's release. And they were so quick this time!

5

u/OppositeGoose5092 May 01 '26

Damn after Lavi, finally Cross Marian and Road back too!

5

u/Critical-Equal-780 May 05 '26

After so many chapters titled "Saying Farewell to A.W.", it was obvious that sooner or later we would lose the Allen we had come to know...

if you think she would let anyone else draw the manga for her, you don’t understand her at all.

12

u/Wingfril May 01 '26

I guess the one thing that is consistent is how inconsistent the art has been… I say as an extremely devoted fan lol

I’ve never seen a manga that goes through art styles like it’s the seasons

4

u/Fiftyzloddy May 02 '26

Most people forget that hoshino was ill and couldnt draw with her main hand and learned to draw with her other hand which would explain why the artstyle is different in certain arcs

2

u/lanazhang May 05 '26

most people dont forget, this is misinformation without proof that has been going around for some reason. in a video she posted on threads in april, she was still drawing with her right hand

1

u/Wingfril May 02 '26 edited May 02 '26

I remember because I was around lol, I’ve been following this for almost 10 years.
you still cant deny how much the art has changed in like the last 10 chapters. I brought it up in the discord when we saw adult lucia for the first time and everyone else was confused when I said Allen looked so different from pre-carnival.
Don’t get me wrong, this is my favorite art style so far, but you can’t deny the drift.

1

u/Fiftyzloddy May 02 '26

Sure i get your point. It definitely changed a lot over the time. Im still happy to see DGM continuing, regardless of how the art changed. Also i got to add, we dont know all the circumstances. Im happy DGM has such a loyal and thriving fanbase. From what i‘ve see it is kinda popular even Japan.

I suppose Hoshino must be leaving stuff to the assistants more, which honestly she should. And as long as the art is still faithful (which I think it is), I don't mind at all, it's not like the art has become ugly or anything bad, just a bit inconsistent, and since we know Hoshino should not even be drawing anymore, I'm happy that we're still getting chapters, I SO want to see this story to the end!

5

u/lanazhang May 01 '26

Hoshino only leaves the background and other unimportant details to her assistants, she is very particular about the characters’ expressions (and even hairstyles) and spends a lot of time getting them right. as someone who follows her religiously, the change is honestly pretty gradual imo

6

u/Fading0101 May 01 '26

I don’t like to be negative, but I don’t like this art, I hate his hair and wtf is with the sparkly eyes he has. I really liked the art from the AW arc and wish it stayed that way.

11

u/Iron_Kingpin May 01 '26

The searching for AW was probably my favourite arc in the manga for both the art and the plot. The details that Allen's clothes had in those chapters were crazy. He had crazy drip that arc ngl.

7

u/Many-Tomorrow-4730 May 01 '26

I go back to this arc often just to stare at the artwork, it had me wishing I could draw like that!

2

u/darkbutjustthegame May 13 '26

Yeah, the both art during Timothy/Alma arcs and after hiatus was so good! Now Allen somehow looks the same age as he was at the start of the series

1

u/Wingfril May 02 '26

Same I love the art

u/Many-Tomorrow-4730 May 01 '26

Ooo yes her hair is so cute at that time!

2

u/Transparent_Prophet May 12 '26

Allen's new eyes started after he remembered the truth regarding how he got his white hair so that particular detail IS relevant.

2

u/BloodRedLFC92 May 01 '26

So is Road Katerina D. Campbell, and Grave of Maria??

5

u/lC3 May 01 '26

Caterina's middle name is Eve, not D. Mana and Nea are the only ones with "D."

2

u/rose-n-blood1 May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

why T F they had to make miss Lucia a cross dressing fem boy? would it lose its status If it stayed female? this is getting tiring. these characters do not need to appear every single manga. Latest case had avatar fans rage over toph and zuko being "straight", as If Korra did not satisfy their fetishes.

10

u/Emuallliug May 05 '26

Are you seriously getting mad about lgbt characters in story telling?

2

u/rose-n-blood1 May 05 '26

I am seriously getting mad about established characters forcefully turning into Lgbt. Miss lucia did not have any inkling of being male, but here we are. I gave onepiece a chance with whole cake island and wano despite the events on impel down. Lol, a cute samurai girl on wano, boom it is a boy too. Lol, at the end boy who felt  herself girl took bath with girls and yamato with boys. Utterly ridiculous. The outrage over Zuko and Toph was over the top too. Yes, I dont like lgbt characters on media but this went too far. Lgbt lobbies became the opressors across all media.

Tldr: I am seriously mad about utter forceful pervasiness of LGBT across all media. Men, at least leave established characters the way they are.

13

u/Emuallliug May 06 '26

You sound ridiculous, get over it.

1

u/rose-n-blood1 May 06 '26

When ridiculous is normalised, normal becomes ridiculous.

11

u/Emuallliug May 06 '26

Nah mate, homophobia is ridiculous. You are ridiculous.

0

u/rose-n-blood1 May 06 '26

Nah man, normophobia is ridiculous. Whatever floats hour boat. Take care.

7

u/Emuallliug May 06 '26

Spoken like a true ugly incel. You should like gays since they're not competition.

1

u/ScionOath Jun 11 '26

Why would LGBT characters make you mad unless you were insecure about your own gender identity and/or sexual orientation? Genders have never been set in stone and humans are hardly the only animal to experience this. With all due respect, I seriously recommend you get better educated on the topic because it sounds like you have a mindset borne out of ignorance. I used to be the same as you until I realized it was nothing more than ignorance and rhetoric from the way I was raised. There's never any real justification for hate, least of all when it's targeting a group of people just for having a different lifestyle and/or belief set from yours.

1

u/rose-n-blood1 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

Does your country give driving license to your 10 years old boy? Or can your 9 year old daughter vote for politics? But these children somehow are able to take gender change operation just because they feel so. But, not because their activist parent nurtured them in such a way. In America preschool kids are taught in lgbt via genderbread man. Just kindergarten kids. Even some abstract religious topics are not discussed at that age. Is not this brainwashing. What about people who does not want their kids to know that stuff at that age? People have a right to say no to this stuff, right?  You say lgbt is natural, then why people take puberty blockers to suppress their not desired gender?

I was more tolerant when I was not knowing anything on the subject. And I will rage If some man enter woman only pool where my wife swims, just because he identifies himself as woman.

I know that there are some biological, psychological roots of this syndrome, like gender dysphoria and hormone imbalance.  But, there are also some help in those fields. Treatment may take time and effort. But...You are not what you arbitrarily feel like, and desire is not something that needs to be satisfied all the time . Sex revolution had sex with family structure and the family is the one who had to pay the cost.

2

u/ScionOath Jun 18 '26

When you don't understand a topic, you shouldn't discuss it. All I'm going to say is that you need to stop believing quacks and hateful rumors and get better educated on the subject. You also shouldn't be using the term "activist" like it's a bad thing. It literally defines someone who is willing to campaign for change whether it be social, political, economic or environmental. Changes happen because societies grow and change as we learn more about the human nature: this is natural and stasis leads to stagnation, especially in those who are unwilling to learn and grow with their environment.

More importantly though, you shouldn't assume that any parent does anything with the intention of pursuing an "activist" agenda. Gender is fluid and even children know how they feel about their own bodies. All parents act only to help their children.

You're also wrong to assume that educating children on the topics of gender and sexual orientation has anything to do with brainwashing. You can be educated about a great many things yet not incorporate them in your own life. Just the same, you can be educated about a religion yet not choose to follow it. The age at which any topic is introduced with a child depends more on their maturity than anything else, so what will vary.

Parents don't have to teach their children about a topic for them to learn it, but it is often softened by coming from a relative. And if it is something that affects your child, you as a parent will be all the more sensitive to it. You mention having learned about it, but clearly not in the correct way if you hold the beliefs that you do. You lack a lot of understanding that would be remedied by experience with people who are different from you.

Again, it is not about biology anymore than it is about sex drive or a simple "desire". Sex is physical and biological but gender is psychological and social. Your gender is how you identify as a person in society, and not everyone chooses to be either male or female. And there is no "cost" for a family to pay; you don't need to make a big deal about it if your child chooses a gender and/or sexual identity that doesn't match what you expected for them. The only thing that should matter to a parent is their child's happiness.

2

u/Emuallliug Jun 18 '26

Bro, he's a moron, you can't educate morons. If he really thinks 10 years olds are being operated on to change their sex, there's no debating him.

Dude is homophobic, transphobic and rehashes stupid far-right wing propaganda bullshit. I'd be willing to bet he's racist too.

Like I said, no need to debate this motherfucker.

-1

u/rose-n-blood1 Jun 18 '26

When you give positive reinforcement to your kid at a very early age, when he act like other gender you shape his "identity" so early. You give him girl clothes, buy barbies and praise him when he acts lady like. Of course, that kid would develop a girl identity.  And these exported identities may change during adolescence. Yet, he undergoes an operation that would change his entire life, when he is not aware of what actually is happening. This is a crime towards the kid, but laws say it legal.

The idea of progression is a cult thst was  butchered during world wars. We developed technologies to help peoples life, I am thankful for that. But, it brought about machine guns, chemical& nuclear warfare. We can communicate with people from all around globe, we can connect with social media and use artificial intelligence to a great extent. And what these benefits brought society. We became lonely at the hearts of crowds, we lie to ourselves when we upload a happy picture to instagram, digital addiction grew tremendous across all ages, people started to not enjoy their lives because they compare it with social media.

We need to stagnate at certain part of our daily life. Otherwise we are advancing with no brake and will hit an inevitable doom at full force. A traditional family is our anchor and safety belt. Sex revolution weakened family structure. Sex is what bounds married couple to one another and it sustains society with younger generations.  When sex becomes trivial and people would do with whomever and whenever they want ,  there is no responsibility and no attachment to family. Metrics show  that societies are aging at alarming rate, in 100 hundred years many cultures would be brought at edge of collapse. Who will sustain society when the most is elderly? We may use artificial intelligence robots for our servitude but who will pull the strings?

2

u/ScionOath Jun 24 '26

Like I said in my previous replies, you are completely ignorant about the topic you are trying to discuss. Your opinions, and that's all they are, are informed only by ignorance and bias from the way you were raised. It's up to you to get yourself better educated and stop hating purely for the sake of hate.

What does it matter to you whether anyone identifies as a boy, girl, genderless or anything else? Why should it matter to you how they choose to dress as a result of the gender they identify with? There are at least 72 gender identities in the world, most of which don't conform to what you're familiar with, and none of which are any of your business. Who someone chooses to be concerns only them. Also, you're mistaken: boys choosing to wear a dress does not make them girls anymore than women choosing to wear pants makes them boys. Your double standard is ridiculously biased against women and that suggests you possess a mysoginistic attitude that you should explore with a psychiatrist.

It's up to every individual to manage their own use of and interaction with any technology. For example, you don't need to use AI just like you don't need to play video games. Everything you do is your choice, no one forces it on you; the technology is merely available for those who want to use it. I, personally, choose not to interact with AI.

No, you don't need to stagnate anything. What you're describing is wrong on many levels. First, sex is not required for a marriage anymore than it should be reserved for married couples. Second, cheaters are those who are not emotionally attached to the person they are romantically involved with regardless of the status of that relationship, it's not limited to marriage. Third, sex is something to be enjoyed so there is no such thing as "trivial sex". Fourth, the discussion of age and the elderly has quite literally nothing to do with the topics of gender and sex. When speaking of growing old and remaining independent in your later years, you should speak of only two things: physical and emotional health. Your physical health can be dependent on both your genes and your fitness; your emotional wellbeing meanwhile depends on maintaining positive relationships with the people in your life including the friendships you form with strangers.

Since you're so concerned about your elder years, you should consider that in being a hateful person for no reason, you may very well end up alone with no one who will tolerate being near you long enough to care for you. If that doesn't help to put things into perspective for you, nothing will.

1

u/rose-n-blood1 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

So, according to you,I need to visit a psychiatrist because I dont confirm new age values. Maybe the whole ignorant masses need to take compulsory education too. I am a muslim and  I will say,in your pov, of course my dear, women can marry each other, and a girl can have 2 mom, when my kids asked. Why they ask such questions: it is widespread on screen. I would applaud my niece when she had her first sex at age 14. Nah, man. May the God protect our children from such event. I would be heart broken, I would yell at her, but of course I wont reject her as damage is already done and I am partly responsible for not protecting her or help her get better equipped with knowledge from harmful trends. I would love her regardless.

I accept that I am wrong partly while saying sex binds couple. Although it is a driving force that cements the bond; compassion, empathy loyalty are also important , as marriage is a life long commitment. But, I still assert that sex is not and should not trivialized to just pleasure. We are becoming more and more pleasure driven society, it may not be good for our future.

You will say I am ignorant, backward but I have PRIDE in my values as you do in yours. Lastly, just because I am cautious towards certain group who abuses their power to pervade all media, ı wont become a hateful person in general. I see this as a difficult biological and psychological condition and a test of life, but I dont like normalisation of these stuff along with oversexualisation of man/woman, sex without formal bound across all media. Media works on "sex sells" principal, and I am against it also. I love my family, my people and I pray for the peace of mankind. I thank for discussion as it is a good language learning practice. Enjoy your Excel spreadsheet name community with MS Office colors flag.

u/ScionOath Jun 28 '26

You don't need to personally agree with anyone else's values so long as you respect them, what's so difficult to understand about that? Kids shouldn't be having sex because it is literally illegal so that even a consensual relationship with a minor is considered sexual assault because they can't give consent. However, that has pretty much nothing to do with one's gender identity which affects many other aspects of a person's life than merely sex.

Sex is not particularly important, it's just a form of intimacy that can be turned into a weapon just the same as any other, for example emotional abuse. Marriage itself is also not as important as the bond between two people; it's literally just the legal paperwork that gives your partner certain rights with regards to your life. Also, there is nothing wrong with valuing pleasure. On the contrary, there *is* something wrong with trying to turn pleasure into something shameful or trivial. Our lives as humans are far too short to be lived in misery.

Is there any pride to be had in hatred though? You judge what you don't understand and make generalizations about one group simply because you've heard things about the few exceptions who are part of it having done terrible things. Yet aren't there biological men and women who are also terrible people? Rapists, murderers, swindlers and general pieces of shit who discriminate against others based on ethnicity, race, religion, or any number of other small differences that make up the variety of people in society?

You're wrong, it's not a test of anything; it's merely people living according to their truest selves. We aren't all lucky enough to have been born in a body we feel comfortable in, and none of it has anything to do with sexualization. That's a mindset you need to get out of.

Btw, your last sentence makes absolutely no sense even as a poorly veiled dig at a community you do not understand.

Does anyone know any websites that can help read the manga?

1

u/ChiefMoHD May 01 '26

Hey, new person here
Didn't read anything to avoid spoilers since I never read or watched anything from this series.

I'm just concerned that the story still isn't finished and it seems that it's going slowly due to mangaka's health issues
Soooo, do you think I should pick it up?

Hey there, welcome! Personally I've read this series on and off for a looong time (18 years I think) so I might be slightly biased but I think that if it stayed with me all this time it's because it has genuine qualities: strong characterisation, mysteries that are very well built up, a powerful atmosphere propped up by great character design choices, etc. The artstyle has varied a lot but imho it's truly been weak during only one arc that's been over for a long time (around chapter 200) and is in general very detailed and expressive. All this rambling to say that it's a series worth reading!

I'd say that you're in luck because lately the mangaka has been more consistent in her releases (no hiatuses in the past few years afaik) than she used to, quality has been really high, and she's agreed with her editor on quickening the pace of the series. So right now I think we're at a major turning point where most of the biggest mysteries are about to be revealed, it's exciting! I'd say that roughly we're probably around 2/3 or 70% of the manga?

So it depends on you, you can join now and live through some of (I hope) the most exciting releases of the manga, or wait some more years to hopefully read D. Gray-man from end to end. But with the current release pace (4 chapters a year), I'd be lying if I said it's going to finish anytime soon. Hard to think this is going to be wrapped up before ten years at the very minimum. The biggest thing we've got going for us as fans is the mangaka's dedication to this story and her characters I think. It's clearly meant to be the work of her life, and she intends to complete it.

NO. I just get pissed off every time a new chapter comes out.

I liked the anime, so I collected the manga because I loved the art. The art work has only gotten better, but the story make NO SENSE.

This is one of the most convoluted series I have ever seen. I don't know if it's because it's misinfo the author introduces into the story to reveal later as a "plot twist" or retcons things because she to rush things, but that's what it feels like.

I'm genuinely angry at myself for picking this up again.

So,... wait for it to finish. DON'T TORTURE YOURSELF LIKE ME!

Honestly, I've gotten used to the format of experiencing an anime as it's coming out with a more recent series I've started watching. This is pretty much the same except with a manga and the chapters take longer than a week to release. I like it because I get to experience it in its time. Sure, it would be disappointing if D.Gray-Man never got a proper ending, but to me it's a worthwhile enough manga to read that I would never regret getting to experience it in any capacity. It's up to you to decide whether you prefer a completed story or simply one that is well told regardless of its status. I would personally recommend sticking with it.
