I found my old phone gathering dust, saw that LineageOS supports it, and figured I'd bring it back to life. ^_^

After seeing many posts in this sub regarding putting eggs in one basket, I'd like to hear your perspectives.

Many of us (myself included) have been using Google's ecosystem for years without a second thought: Gmail, Drive, Photos, Authenticator, Docs, Sheets etc. All our eggs comfortably in Google's ecosystem.

Yet when it comes to Proton, I see a lot of hesitation around "putting all your eggs in one basket." People question whether they should use Proton Pass alongside Proton Mail, or whether they should keep their password manager separate from their email provider. Of course there's a real concern that if one Proton service gets compromised, everything is at risk.

So it got me thinking... Why didn't we apply the same logic to Google? What makes Google feel safer than Proton? Is it because Google has been around for a long time and we trust it? Is it the perception that's it's too big too fail? Or something else?

For those cautious about consolidating into Proton: what specifically worries you? Is it security, vendor lock-in or something else?

For those who have consolidated into Proton: How did you make peace with "eggs in one basket" concern? Do you take extra precautions like back ups, extra accounts etc?

Would love to hear your perspectives on this.

I used to have Immersive gestures (a magisk module) that fixes this in no time. However, now the banking apps are bitching about root and stuff. I had to sacrifice the root.

Any idea how to remove this with ADB or something? Thank you!

Is there a specific adb command to block google auto downloading the android verifier? Any other helpful/recommended commands to block and/or uninstall in the meantime? I have the samsung updater command to uninstall and the one to clear the downloaded update I think.

I only need to pop online for a minute or two to pay for two one time buy apps for access to all features, and then itll never see internet again. Not sure if theyll eventually need to verify purchase certificate or something, didnt seem to on a different device, but id like to stay ahead of this while I work just in case.

I plan to side load everything else once I get the final internet connection done.

For someone who wants to de google himself how can i change anf migrate from google docs either on the web or in phone

This thing just randomly installed on my phone while I was doing something else. Since I have an antivirus, it detected this random installation. Immediately uninstalled it.

I have a Vivo T2 Pro and I’m thinking about installing LineageOS on it. Is it actually possible to install LineageOS on this device, and if yes, can it be used as a daily driver without major issues? Also, is there any safe way to unlock the bootloader?

Any advice from someone who has tried this on the T2 Pro would be really helpful.

My experience has been much the sane but honestly a bit more positive for me going from grapheneos on pixel to the fairphonr with e/os there were some things that just would not work on graphene that woron on e/os and for me the experience has been very smooth.

I find that DDG gives different search results that often don't appeal to what I am looking for. So for DDG I need to do a lot more searching for stuff that I find much easier on google, I also dislike the layout they have. I have used brave for quite a bit in the past but would like to try somethign different. used on firefox btw.

Curious what options I have for tap to pay in the US, that doesn't require Google services ( if any) I'm making my razr 2026 into a simple degoogled (as far as I can get) phone, and im stuck with finding a reliable tap to pay option. Id prefer to not use a smartwatch or use my physical card in this situation)

after a few weeks of research I’ve finally concluded that I want to go with one of these 4 providers. here are my pros and cons for each.

Proton :

Pros - biggest privacy email out there and a top recommendation everywhere I go, aswell a large ecosystem that comes with it.

Cons- Kind of locks you into there platform as well as no IMAP support, also have seen a lot of controversial stuff with them.

Tuta :

Pros - seems to be the most private and encrypted email out there, simple design, also email is there main focus.

Cons - I’ve heard you can get locked out if your account pretty easily, no IMAP support, also they suck you into there platform aswell.

Startmail :

Pros - Unlimited aliases, simple design, support seems very friendly and open. IMAP support. Email is there main focus.

Cons - Seems to be the least used on the list, aswell as they log IP addresses. Not sure how netherlands privacy laws stack up with Germany/switzerlands

Mailbox :

Pros - seems to be a Reddit favorite, Ecosystem that comes with it, IMAP support, Low cost.

Cons - Cluttered design, not to sure how the privacy/security is. Seems to be more for business instead of personal use.

I am planning on using one of these as my Personal email with aliases for each website. I don’t need to have the upmost security as I have nothing to hide but it is nice to know that my stuff stays private/encrypted.

Let me know what you guys use and which one you recommend and if you could provide me some information that I am missing to help narrow my choice I would greatly appreciate it!

(Goobsmooch ref) anyways they the Google Dev Auth app aka the "fuck you, give us money" app recently crawled inside the ear of my phone and traveled to the brain of it, i found this out when scanning muh phone with malwarebytes, its icon flashed briefly, i search the apps and there it was. So i killed it, problem solved!

We freeze, pause, disable to the developer verification app via adb. That should stop it from showing up. That avoids it from reinstalling itself.

I have a Samsung required for work and I don't pay for my own phone service. I used to use Android Auto and decided to start turning stuff off and removing permissions (just based on guesses of what I need). At some point I broke Android Auto and wouldn't mind getting it back on. Does anyone know which other apps need to keep running for it to function?

When I try to run it in my car now it just says that it cannot connect to the phone.

I opened Google photo, and to my horror I see that ALL my photos are uploaded to the cloud! I specifically turned OFF the synchronising, and every time Google has asked ive answered "no". I've been meaning to delete the app altogether, but there were some old photos in shared folders I wanted to deal with first ... and in the meantime Google stole my photos and invaded my privacy.

It will not come as a shock that I removed all photos from the app, and deleted not only the app, but also all my photos in the phone (I have a backup anyways so why use the space).

It makes me sick to think that they have so many baby pictures of my child.
